I remember singing this back in, oh, maybe 1997? with my school choir. We were on a trip up to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and we were actually sleeping at the aquarium. We all gathered together and sang this to, believe it or not, whales. It is the best out of only a few good memories I have of being a teenager. Thanks for the reminder that there were some really good times back then too. :)

My thought, as well, when I first heard this, seeing Father, Son, and Holy Ghost as The New Day that greets us with life, to better know His love, and grow closer, by the gift of His Grace, to know him, ever more deeply and be immersed fully in His overwhelming, sustaining, life-giving Love Eternal.

I sang briefly with the Kings Singers after they performed in Washington, DC. THEY ASKED ME WHICH OF THEIR VAST REPERTOIRE WAS MY FAVORITE. I SAID "THE Rose because of its tenor part. They began singing and so did other people. I am a true tenor and since I quit smoking, my upper range tops out at Second Soprano Thank you for posting this performance. I am smiling with happy tears brought on by this extraordinary performance. One day, we will all be able to sing as much as we can. Wouldn't be wonderful if singers all over the globe would begin singing the Hallelujah chorus? 🎶🎵🎼 .

I've been a fan of kings singers since I was 3 years old. My parents were obsessed and played their music all the time. I was a kid of the 90s. New Day has been my favorite song from the first time I heard it. I didn't think the original could be duplicated. This new generation of singers has completely blown me away! I cried tears of joy through this whole song. I'm a music snob, so that's a big deal. Thank you.

Remember I was overwhelmed by this song when Irish MARY O"HARA (born 1935) sang this in her 2nd career . On her LP Scent of Roses, published 1980 , so some 40 years ago already. Now I am overwhelmed again by the King's Singers' version. What a vocal gem. In the new line up of a young generation, fans can only be extremely grateful for the high vocal level. I hope these six will stay for quite awhile. All voices, without exception, bass, 2 baritons, tenor and 2 countertenors are a blessing for the ear. The two counters blend very well and the last newcomer Edward (2nd from the left) has "popstarlooks" by the way! , if you will excuse my off the record remark. But also the other voices (1 counter and tenor) sometimes pair so well , same with the 2 baritons. There is always something to discover. That's why you have to listen many times and each time concentrate on another singer. Six vocalists keep you busy!! Boys, 12 votes from the Netherlands!

I’ve loved this song since I was a kid! I grew up listening to the King’s Singers, and I have some fond memories of this song being the start of a KS tape my parents played on road trips to visit family in South Carolina (we’re talking 8-10 hours on the road) to help pass the time. To this day, that song strikes a chord deep within me and has the power to take me back to those journeys and the excitement of visiting family and the beauty of the views in the mountains of Virginia and North Carolina. Thanks for the memories!

Just a mention of the composer, John David, whose Berry Hill studio is about a mile from where I live: "The inspiration for New Day was quite simple; I had just had a major blow in my personal life, and was sitting alone late at night on the settee feeling very low, and watching an ominous story on the news about the very real possibility of nuclear war. I started singing to the (hopefully) soon-to arrive New Day like it was an entity, that would rescue me from the depths. If the sun came up and the birds started singing as usual then I could believe that it really was the new day in which life would go on, and in which hope would survive. The tune and the words popped into my head at the same time, and it was all written in about 10 minutes, which is why (to me at least) it’s not perfect. But I didn’t feel I had the right to change anything.”

I sense a wonderful praise of our creator in this song although He is not named - further thoughts on Hope - rather than just a philosophy: Hebrews Ch11v1 "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." 6"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."
@cirnetАй бұрын
thank you for sharing this wonderful quote, OP! and @@TheAlanView, I entirely agree - this is the triumph of human spirit that makes deists praise the Creator for gifting them such a beautiful soul, and atheists celebrate the human mind for shining so brightly in the face of the inevitable, heartless entropy of the universe. And in that triumph all such distinctions melt away, the veil that separates each person from every other lifting for just a moment to allow us to see that our neighbor is as dazzled and awestruck as we are. I sang this in my high school choir in 2000, but it has taken me two more decades of life to see this song's greatness.

I love the way the dynamic ebb and flow of the original King's Singers' performance just rolls over you. But this performance, in stripping away the "ahs" and "ooos" and instead tightening everything up, the result is an emotional punch in the chest. I do believe It is a remarkable improvement over an already incredible delivery. This is professionalism in its purest form. I first heard this performance a couple months ago, and I just keep coming back to it. I'm moved every single time.

Yes. The original was gorgeous, with the more flowery arrangement. But I love this one more. Sort of letting the words convey a more straightforward message. My husband had a brain hemorrhage as a young father, and I listened to this on my way to and from the hospital. Means a lot to me.
