I think with the beat goes on you're thinking of Sonny and Cher. I was at work in the mid 90s when a lot of these songs were/are still played. The radio tuned to the local rock station.

Jamel_AKA_Jamal Hey Jamel, I think the "Beat Goes On" by Sonny and Cher may be the tune you're thinking of. Heres a One Hit Wonder for you. "Angel of the Morning" by Merilee Rush. If you give this a listen, you'll stop and say, "Hold on just a damn minute, what the hell is this! Is this what I think it is?!?!

This song was, hands down, my all-time favorite song as a kid. It got heavy play on WLS in Chicago. I didn’t care how many times I heard it. It’s so catchy, upbeat, has interesting lyrics and it just has so much going on with it, I just can’t get bored. The transition from “This Beat Goes On” into “Switching to Glide” is glorious. Love this song and always will.

@@thekingsarehere i have to admit that it's nice to see someone from a group from the 70s and early 80s that interacting with use of their material on social media instead of trying to block it. They were a one hit wonder, but were a big time party band that played many shows over the years, representing the early to mid 80s Canadian invasion. This song is based on a lot of things they experienced. This beat goes on was because the one singer couldn’t come up with an ending when he wrote it so another band member came up with another part hence the 2 songs in one. The Mercedes part was a car they owned that they took everywhere . They did a documentary on this song and their experiences being on the road. Oh man, you are my new favorite person this week!! I posted this tune on my FB page and sent it to my GF. I'm 54 and she's got 9 years on me. LOL. She'll never read this. But yeah, this was a special song and it was by this band from Canada. But the reason why it gained traction, in the states, was this radio station in Chicago WLUP (which is where I'm at) was playing the hell out of it. And it's just infectious! Thank you for this!

I've loved this song for as long as I can remember...almost. It's been a long time. My memory isn't so great these days, but I do remember when I got my first computer and internet (dial-up) and one of the first things I searched for was this song. I hadn't heard it ages and missed. I got no results, but a couple of years later I did! I was thrilled, I couldn't find a record or tape of it anywhere. But now I have it on the web! What a great song!
