The Kinks 'Lola' Live.
This song is about a transvestite. According to a 2004 piece in Rolling Stone magazine, it may have been inspired by the famous transvestite Candy Darling, who Kinks lead singer Ray Davies allegedly dated for a brief time. This is the same Candy mentioned in Lou Reed's "Walk On The Wild Side" ("Candy came from out on the island, in the backroom she was everybody's darling").
The other possibility, which is stated in The Kinks: The Official Biography, is that Ray Davies wrote the lyrics after their manager got drunk at a club and started dancing with what he thought was a woman. Toward the end of the night, his stubble started showing, but their manager was too tanked to notice. (thanks, Martin - Rostock, Germany)

At the moment I was only 8yrs old and listening to it several times on the radio stations, got me confused and I related it to the fact that long hair on boys and men, and jeans worn by girls was the subject of this song. There was no education in schools, and in the society itself, at that era regarding the fact, that life on Earth from the very start, existed a variety of sexual orientations, and persons like LOLA finished being either hated or worse - beaten, which is totally unjust. Added to this they were frequently ridiculed . At the time in my school, existed some who were fem boys to which many made fool of them and me I laughed, but later I totally regretted my behaving ! They were the most kind and obedient in class. The point here is that we grew up in a unsound state of social education, all of which came from dark mentality of the society & the church. Lola brings me a lot of nostalgic memories, and the Kinks one of my favorite groups of the past.

@@KZbinChannel-qk9rk Thankfully society has moved on. I am not woke but looking forward to the day when people are not labelled. You are what you are and so be it. You are quite right when you talk about society and religion. I had a conversation the other day with a guy a little older than me who scorned anyone of a different persuasion. I reminded him that the Romans and The Spartans encouraged same-sex relations because it meant they would fight harder and they don't come harder than The Spartans. I wouldn't beat yourself up about your behaviour when you were young. We all do things we regret, especially in our formative years. Lola is a great song.
@YouTubeChannel-qk9rk
@YouTubeChannel-qk9rk Жыл бұрын
@@russellbishop5995 Thanks Russell for the reply. Nice to hear from different opinions but especially from open minded persons. In my opinion, I do not like the procedure done by the Romans & Spartans, for the reason that sex orientations are a very delicate and serious biological activities, that they can induce harm, on the person's brain, and so, it should be kept for the person to choose his sex life FREE without being forced or worse - hated for nothing. One must keep in mind, that LOLA and persons alike, suffer so much in society, and it's not their fault at all. I did laugh at my class mate, simply because i was not told from no one, including my parents, that fem boys exist, and so I saw something strange and different from me and others, and their gesture make you laugh even if you are in a nervous state ! But I never hated or hurt, him and also he was my very respected class mate indeed. I have a couple of the Kinks C.D.'s in my library with all of their hits throughout their best years, and to say the truth I regard them as future tellers - since the song - Plastic Man ( 1970) did in fact came true - after 3 decades we are truly Plastic Humans, and we are in great trouble, as regards our health & enviroment. Thanks.

♫ 🎸Ano 1972 "LOOOOOOLAAAAHHHHHHH" ♫ 🎸 "The Kinks 'Lola' Live.
