Are aero socks really that much better than a clean-shaved leg? I'm surprised that everyone wears mid-calf socks in the peloton now!
@JMurph20154 ай бұрын
@@drmcgas far as I've heard, yes, it's like the golf ball dimples, but for your calf. It's worth like 5 watts or something and they're so cheap that it's easily the biggest upgrade you can make in terms of W/$. Also if you get nice high rise socks, it basically eliminates the need to shave for aero benefits.

Matteo is a super star now. I saw him training in Malibu a few years ago while on Movistar. He gave me a friendly wave back even though at the time I thought it was someone who just bought a Movistar kit. But then it dawned on me that it was an extremely well tailored kit. Later that day I saw on Strava it was him. Most Cat 3 riders won't wave back let alone a UCI WT pro. I hope he gets a win in the TdF.

Can GCN do a segment on warm up and cool down? “What do Tour riders do on the rollers before and after the stage?”, “Benefits of warm up”, “Benefits of Cool Down”, “How to incorporate into your rides/training”, “Duration”, etc.
@philipk44755 ай бұрын
Really depends on the stage and how hard it is from the get-go. But nothing fancy, maybe 5 mins Z1, 10 mins Z2, then a few minutes Z3/Z4 to get their HR up, and then a bunch more Z2 to get everything circulating.

It would be very interesting to do the same with the winter kit. We could see the (different ?) legs warmer, the different jackets, the overshoes (not only for aero) ...
@CRBenham205 ай бұрын
For racing, the classic bib/jersey combo is dead. Even at the amateur level, most racers are wearing road suits for the aero and cooling benefits. Our club team uses champion systems, and it’s about $160 for a road suit, where as a comparable set of bibs/jersey can run up to $200+. So it’s actually more affordable to go with the road suit. They have become so comfortable with the “2 piece” design where the front zipper opens up like a jersey now, that I rarely wear normal bibs on any outdoor rides.

I started watching GCN to learn more about the sport my partner loves. Now I’m watching more GCN than my partner 🤣. I’ve been loving the various challenges, the warmth, and the humour. An unrelated question to the video (sorry), but I’m hoping the community could advise- what can I do for my partner whose neck hurts when cycling for long distances. Does anyone have any tips or tricks or suggestions?
@stevens21825 ай бұрын
Have they done a proper bike fit? That can be a factor. Also if flexibility and core are not as good as they can be you can get sore neck from too much drop. (Seat to bar height)
@stevens21825 ай бұрын
Sure others can add others but those I find to be culprit for a bunch of people.
@ghowell135 ай бұрын
+1 for the bike fit. And the core strength. It goes along with the bike fit, but if your partner is too "stretched" out getting to the bars, that can cause neck fatigue/ pain as well. It goes along with the seat post height. Too high, along with too far ahead/ bars too low, will certainly cause this. There are several videos that GCN have done over the years that mention neck pain in them. You may be able to do a search for that specific term, along with GCN's name and come up with a fair few videos to watch. Best of luck, and go join your partner on a few rides, it's great fun!

@xinanis that's fantastic! Just remeber, it's not about the bike, it's about the ride!! I hope you enjoy it. I tried to get my family involved with cycling, tried several different kinds, but nope. It's just me. I use it as my decompression/ mind therapy, and also my workout. It's OK, but it could be better. It does get lonely sometimes. I'm always happy to hear when someone's partner takes a real interest in their hobbies. Have fun, and hope to see you around the comments!

All my kits say to line dry, but I never see kits hung up to dry on the team bus. Do they put them in the dryer?
@questgivercyradis84625 ай бұрын
Honestly, jersey and kit material dries really fast. Maybe some thicker winter materials wouldn't, but my gear does. My better jerseys in particular dry crazy fast (Primal's Omni and higher - the Sport fabric also dries fast, but like.... +20-30mins). I take them out of the drier, hang them on my bike handlebars in the tiny apartment, and they'd be good to go before I finish unloading and sorting the rest of the laundry it seems. The shorts perhaps slightly longer, only due to the padding.... but those are made to dry out too, and not be soggy. Overnight is all they'd need, and if they have even one kit to rotate through, no issue.
@kilianortmann99795 ай бұрын
I roll mine in a dry towel and jump on it, that gets it immediately kinda dry, another hour or so air drying and it's fine. A laundry mangle or wringer basically does the same, they are no longer used in private homes, but commercial laundry shops still have them, maybe the pro teams as well.

I guess it would make some sort of difference if people watching this were actually going to compete in Le Tour and wear the stuff, but since there's a slim chance they are, then it's just another Advertisement to go out and buy extravagantly priced Clothing that may get you compliments at the Saturday Group Ride, but offer no more performance or comfort than lesser priced Clothing would.
@gcn5 ай бұрын
We're not suggesting everyone should wear skin-suits but we think it's cool to see what the pros are choosing 🙌
@johnwestwell22415 ай бұрын
The video is very clearly advertised as showing what pro riders wear in the Tour. The title 'The Kit Pro Riders ACTUALLY take to the Tour de France' was a big clue that I immediately understood to mean what it said. I'd suggest that if you read that and didn't understand what would be shown, then your comprehension skills need a little work. As Ollie said, for anyone interested in professional cycling it's really interesting to see how clothing has evolved in the last 10 years or so. And the clothing is not extravagantly priced to get you compliments on a club ride. It's designed for pros to race as fast as possible in as much comfort as possible. And it does offer superior performance and comfort. Anyone who's ridden in cheap bibshorts can tell you that.
