IQ was very good, and as a fan, I miss him. But the reality is that there was a logjam at guard, and getting rid of him has allowed Grimes and especially McBride to step up into bigger roles in the second unit, especially with DDV taking Grimes spot in the starting lineup.

The beauty of the trade is this unlocked grimes and deuce. Dante has played out of his mind also. The biggest place we feel this trade as knick fans is his role in the second unit. Taking minutes from Brunson. It’s a win win trade. But rj is who he is, IQ was the big find for Toronto. OG is perfect for this team. Perfect.

OG is indeed all that, but speaking as a Raptors fan, we appreciate that you gave up a LOT to get him. We got two 20 ppg starters out of the deal, who we desperately needed. Depth was a really problem on this team even last year, before we lost Fred VanVleet as a free agent for nothing. The trade worked for the Knicks not just because of OGs defensive prowess, but because you had the the depth (Grimes and McBride) to allow you to give up two really good young players. No player "is who he is". RJ's 23 years old, and he's clearly now prospering in a pass-oriented system where he can play the 2 and bully his check all the way to the net.

The Two playoff appearances werent really his fault. The first one only he and D Rose were the best offensive players on that roster and they got pummeled. The second one he came back maybe seven games before the end of the season from a pretty bad ankle sprain. It showed in the playoffs, he was still getting his legs underneath him and playing through pain. Those were both tough series to watch.@@TheKnicksRealist

OG Anunoby on the Knicks has been working out absolutely. at first i was pretty skeptical about it because giving up Immanuel Quickley was really big and he was a great spark off the bench for us and i'll miss him for that, but when you look at the bigger picture, IQ was never getting a massive contract and Randle was holding back RJ Barrett from floursing, and he looks like a different player on the Raptors now that he's back home

I honestly think if they get hot, they’re capable of a finals run as they’re built right now. However to be a truly formidable contender, imo, they’ll need to pick up one more star level shot creator. If they pick up a backup ball handler/scorer and another solid big for now they’ll be dangerous in the playoffs this year. I thought this was a great breakdown of the improvements OG brings to the Knicks and the Knicks' roster construction. But it faltered with the last section critical of Julius Randle that was longer on hot takes than substance. Randle has a sample size of exactly 2 playoff runs to judge from: In 2020, Randle hard carried a Knicks team where he and an aging Derrick Rose were the only guys who could get their own shot. That team started *Elfrid Payton* at PG. And last postseason, Randle was hobbled, playing on an ankle injury that he got surgery on right after the Knicks were eliminated. It's surprising your efforts unearthed video footage of Leon Rose giving a rare interview, but you didn't present the context behind Randle's struggles in two postseasons which a regular guy like me can find with a few BBRef searches. It's fun to tear into a player that frustrates you! I too enjoy critical analysis and being a hater. However, to paint Randle as a proven playoff choker belongs on First Take instead of video analysis at this level. It doesn't show the same attention to detail the rest of the video did.

Knicks are expecting to improve overall in the playoffs by role players stepping up. I doubt a big star trade happens this season. More likely that the Knicks focus on building up McBride and Grimes' confidence to kill 2nd units and use defense to grind offenses to a halt.

Knicks need to get another good power forward to back up Randle that’s it.. I would love the Knicks to get Jonathan kuminga.. idk if the warriors will give him up.. hope we get Mitch back as well
