I really think this is The Knife's strongest performance to date.

Absolutely agree! I can't break the trance I'm in with this piece, it's out of this world!!!🥰 I am in So California and I would die happy if I ever get the blessing to watch the knife perform once in my lifetime

@@cizzamood008 Really hope you get to see them-multiple times!! I'm in the Bay Area and had the privilege of seeing them a couple weeks before this performance up in Oakland. I left in awe but don't think I realized how incredible it was until after- especially using this recording as reference. Let's hope for a reunion!! 🤞

@Becausing2 жыл бұрын
It’s a custom instrument called ‘The Cone’ that was made for for this album(and I believe Tomorrow in a Year) and then auctioned off. It’s haunting! Like a string instrument that a giant sea creature would play.

@@Becausing It was made mostly for the tour and I highly doubt it actually makes the sound you hear in this video. The whole performance was made to 'shake the habitual' and they said they found it boring to just watch a few musicians perform on stage (that's why the dancers became singers (sometimes mimicking Karin's voice) and Karin and Olof became dancers. Even though 'The Cone' is really cool and can probably make some kind of string sound, it was part of the performance and definitely not used on the original recording of the album.
@diamond_h0us2 жыл бұрын
@@sarahwilson976 I’m not sure what you’re implying but the cone is definitely making the sounds in the song. You can see her plucking at the specific spots to make the tones as they are happening. Then she starts playing it with a bow and if that sound isn’t coming from the cone then what the heck other instrument is making that sound if not the cone? Edit: according to the Wiki page for the tour Raging Lung is live while some others are not.
@sentinelav2 жыл бұрын
Nerd answer here. You can create a similar tone with any stringed instrument by forwarding a note detector's output to a frequency modulator (like FM8) that modulates the original sound with a synth playing the same note. I've done this with my violin and it makes a really cool effect, similar to what you hear from The Cone. However, note detection becomes difficult when playing multiple notes simultaneously. It makes sense that they'd use a single string to maintain control.

I can really appreciate their attempt at relative anonymity. Their music is their statement and all. Certainly wish I could have seen this show. Thank you for these uploads. This s faintly reminiscent of some Siger Ros...more structured perhaps. Beautiful.
