Errata: I'm seeing a lot of posts about this so wanted to clarify - turns out that the DC of your magic items is *not* based on the first class you took, but it's also not necessarily based on the *last* class you took. Here's a good explanation I found online: "If your first level is in Sorc then any abilities granted by items or Illithid powers will use Charisma. If you then level into Cleric, all items and Illithid powers will now use Wisdom. If you now level back into Sorc, all items and Illithid powers will still use Wisdom. Items and Illithid power use the spellcasting ability of the last new class you leveled into. So now if this character leveled into Wizard or example, items and Illithid powers will now use Intelligence. If they level back into Sorc and then level back into Cleric afterwards, items and Illithid powers will still use Intelligence since these were both existing classes on that character. But if they level into Monk then the ability used for items and Illithid powers will switch to Wisdom again, since Monk is a new class for this character." (source: www.reddit.com/r/BG3Builds/comments/185s5kl/determining_what_ability_modifier_casting_stat_is/) Hope that keeps things clear when we're respec'ing!

interesting... so basically if you're multiclassing, just respec and make sure the last class you choose uses the right one. So sorc first for proficiency, then cleric, then bard to ensure Charisma. If you want to add 1 level of wizard, you have to respec again and fit it after sorc, but before bard. If you added 2 levels of fighter or barb last, would it make spells/scrolls use Strength instead, or stay charisma since those aren't caster classes?

One thing I really appreciate about bg3 builds, is that it forces you to build around the wheelhouse of levels in which D&D is predominantly played. Sure, the theoretical aspect of levels 13-20 are nice, and yes we've all had fun in a level 20 one-shot. But the value in fine tuning a character to levels 1-12 cannot be overstated. The Infamous Radiator build. Nice! Some notes - -In Bg3, spiritual weapon does not require constant bonus action usage. It one bonus action to summon, it behaves as a summon after that. -Warden of Vitality is not available to Clerics. It's a lvl3 Paladin spell, meaning lvl 9 Paladin or lvl 6 Lore Bard is the earliest you can get it. -The Boots of Stormy Clamour i have not found to be bugged. It is probable that the reverberation stacks seem to apply more than they should because the thunder damage from the Gloves of Belligerent Skies/Phalar Aluve Shriek combo also applies reverberation indtantly. -For maximizing effectiveness in any Spirit Guardian based build, Crusher's ring provides 10 feet if extra movement, 20 on a dash. Stack this with Longstrider at the start of the day, and you'll be applying the effects all over the battlefield, if you're willing to move around a lot -Sprllshudder amulet applies reverberation on ranged spell damage. It should be considered, especially if using magic missile. -For solo potential, a dual wielding Paladin2/Light Cleric 10( or 1 Fgtr/2Pal/9Cleric for two weapon fighting style) build is probably the version most suited. I prefer Light cleric for the base build anyway, because of the huge radius of Radiance of Dawn.

Love this build! Started playing it as soon as I saw this vid. One change I made is after getting bard to 6, I took sorcerer to 3. This allows me to get misty step with sorcerer levels freeing up the magical secrets slot for counterspell. More importantly it provides quickened spell to set up spirit guardians + shriek in 1 turn. Also by starting wood elf you get longsword proficiency (and extra movement!) so I took the Light cleric domain for warding flare to mitigate crits as that’s more useful than war cleric. Then bard to 8 for a second feat. This all works only if you plan to stay as a Lore bard rather than changing to swords at level 12. The downside of course is I won’t get level 5 spells, but there was nothing there I needed anyway. An bardic inspiration stays a d8, but I can live with that.

Love this! I actually made a less optimized version of this on my honour mode run with Shadowheart as a light cleric and same gear. I'll respec her to this version, though. For party composition, I actually play her with a sorlock, a TB thrower, and a ranger striker with the eversight ring. I hide everyone in darkness but keep Shadowheart out of it to ensure she's the only target, and she can always retreat to darkness if things get dicey.

I'm loving this build so much! Currently playing it with a couple changes - not multiclassing my War Cleric (for RP purposes). Wyll is a Pact of the Blade Bardlock in this party so I have him using Phalar Aluve as his pact weapon. Tav instead uses the Shining Staver of Skulls for the radiant damage with every hit. It also lets Wyll launch Shriek and Tav set up Spirit Guardians in the same round meaning it comes online faster. Now that I have the Blood of Lathander too, seriously tempted to use two weapons with that and the Staver all through Act 2.

This is a cool build and I really like that it comes online so early. I had used the reverberation gear on a Tiger/Wolverine Barbarian using the polearm that deals radian damage. You get the Tiger cleave to hit multiple targets and spread (deep breath) radiating orb, reverberation, bleed, maim, and bane (through weapon oil). It's a very devastating combo with great weapon master and reckless attack. The downside compared to the Knight Radiant is the pole arm isn't available until late in Act 2. But there are mods...

Just going to add my personal modification of this build if anyone else is interested and so I can come back and consult this in the future. I used this build on Shadowheart too so I didn’t need a lot of the party face options you get from Lore Bard. I like Tempest Cleric far more than War cleric both because of channel divinity options and always prepared spells. In addition to those you don’t have to give up martial weapon and heavy armor proficiency (even though we are using medium armor here). As such I tweaked this build to incorporate that (and nuking things with lightning+wet when applicable). So Tempest cleric to five to get Spirit guardians. Take the same equipment. Phalar Aluve being a finesse weapon really saves us here as it means we can dump our strength once we get it. Strength and Charisma go down to 8 set Int to 16, Wis to 16, Dex to 14, and Con to 12. Con is a little low in this setup but I prefer the increased combat versatility and it’s so hard for enemies to hit us anyway. The Gloves synergize really well with the thunder and lighting damage features of tempest cleric and with a few levels in Wizard we can pick up Lightning Bolt from a scroll without slowing down our spell slot progression. I personally went for a 4Wiz 8Cleric split to ensure I still get three feats as we are a little bit MAD in this build. Two ASI and war caster for advantage on concentration checks plus a nice opportunity attack option that synergizes with tempest cleric and glove features. Resilient Constitution is also viable here if you play around with the ability scores if you would rather have proficiency over advantage. Dealers choice here honestly. Took Create/Destroy Water and lighting bolt to max out damage with Tempest Cleric while also getting a lot of the value Colby illustrates in this vid. Obviously the downside is this setup sucks as a party face, but fits pretty nicely for Shadowheart. Even fits thematically for her imo as it shares a lot with the build he did for her in the optimizing companions series. Really happy with this setup tbh as it kind of allows you to have your cake and eat it too. Hope this helps anyone who isn’t jazzed on War cleric.

I play a great old one Sorlock blaster that hunts crits. Using the same gear setup, Eldritch Blast is a potential 3 hits for an automatic reverb knockdown. A crit on top of this fears them, so they can’t move. Combines the Wolverine and bard builds into one while also dealing out great single target damage. Repelling blasts can add fall damage with displace and quickened spell lets us cast it again. Dip 3 levels fighter for action surge as well, plus champion for higher crit chance

Love your builds Colby, I actually ran this and love it. I think I found a way to make it even more busted, in act 2 there are two rings, 1 applies radiating orb on spell hit, and the other applies 2 radiant damage on every spell hit. With your build plus these rings you can run a bard/warlock, bard for the hard CC, and warlock for agonizing eldritch blasts and hunger of hadar, hadar alone would melt a small army with procking reverb on the slow and blind, plus radiating orbs from radiant damage from the ring.

Now, I know you've done modded content before, but have you considered using the level 20 mod and going all out? "But wait!" I hear you say, "That would make the game far too easy!" You'd be right, if you didn't also mod the enemies to make them tougher. "Player level scaling" levels up the monsters with you, or a couple levels ahead of you for bosses (Though when running through town you will hear the "level up" sound a lot as it levels npcs you get close to) but that doesn't QUITE add enough challenge, because the enemies don't get new skills, so I also add in "Tactician Plus health boost" (I did 30% last playthrough, thinking about bumping it to 50% next) which just simply boosts enemy health. Now you can theory craft all the way to level 20 and still have a challenging game! Also, you could boost the health even higher (up to 300%) if you wanted to mod in a fifth or sixth character to your party and still have it be a challenge.

The way I understand multiclassing with Item scaling, the 1st level of the class that was Last taken will determine the DC. So if you go Level 1 Sorc at the beginning, but then go cleric for the rest of it. Because cleric was the most recent class added. Even if at level 10, you go back to Sorc, cleric was still the newest added class, so that will determine the DCs for your magic items.

Hello! Great guide. I realy enjoy your content :). I have same idea of building character around radiating orb and reverbereting conditions. Most of the time im playing solo on thactician difficulty thats why i want to share with you my min/max build: 6 STORM SORCERER / 6 TEMPEST CLERIC Race: tt's good to pick: wood elf(perception, stealth skills and extra movement) or wood half-elf(light armor, shield prof. and extra movement) or githianki medium armor prof., free misty step and jump spell. Stats: 8str(use pots), 14dex, 16con, 8int, 17wis (+Ethel hair and +2 ASI), 10cha. Later on when you will get Amulet of greater health you can dump con and respec to put 16 points in to charisma. In this setup your concentration is great with advantage to rolls thanks to amulet. So your final stats are 8str(use pot for 21 or 27 str), 14dex, 23con, 8int, 20wis, 16cha. Feats on final respec: Alert for extra initiative and 2ASI in wisdom. You can also take war caster if you dont want to use health amulet. What can you get from this build: *Spirit Guardians to build up radiating orbs, *2 destructive wrath channel divinity for extra maximum thunder and lightning dmg from spells like lightning bolt, chromatic orb, glyph of warding, call lightning, shatter, thunderwave. From Markoheskir destructive weave and chain lightning, *Sorcerry metamagic -> extra quickened and twined spell are rly good, *6lvls of tempest cleric push back THUNDERBOLT STRIKE - when you deal Lightning or Thunder damage to a creature that is Large or smaller, you can also push it up to 3m, *6lvls of storm sorrcerer HEART OF THE STORM which cause small local storm. All enemies withing 6m will take 3 lightning and thunder damage, *ofc you can use electrified water for extra status, lightning dmg and push back every time enemy will move to you, *all effects above have insane synergy with reverberation thanks to GLOVES OF BELLIGERENT SKIES and other equipment you mention in your guide, *im also using Hat of Fire Acuity. You can upcast 4rth lvl of Scorching ray on summoned creature or mage hand before the fight to build up Arcane Acuity which gives you insane 10 DC to you spells. Its good idea to use legendary staff Markoheskir and cast thunder version for destructive wave which is hudge radiant and thunder aoe spell. Electric version will give you chain lightning spell which you can twin spell on wet enemies for maximum dmg thanks to tempest cleric destructive wrath channel divinity. Im very happy about this build because it can handle with multiple enemies with insane AOE dmg and multiple debuffs which helps to land those mighty LIGHTNING AND THUNDER spells. Second idea is to create 6storm sorcerer and 6lore bard but still i need to do more tests ;). I would be greateful for your feedback and expertise about my 6SS/6TC build. Thank you in advance and best regards.

Reporting in that this build still works :) I used it for Shadowheart on my Honour Run. I also would like to add what I used for the remaining item slots (cloak and amulet): For Cloaks: Araj sells the *Thunderskin Cloak* in Moonrise Towers, which works similar to the ring by Roah, as it potentially dazes enemies who damage you if they have stacks of Reverberation. Entharl Danthelon in Wyrm's Crossing sells the *Displacement Cloak* which gives enemies disadvantage on attack roles against you, until you take damage (you get the effect back on your next turn). For Amulets: *Psychic Spark* is sold by Blurg in the Ebonlake Grotto; gives an extra cast of Magic Missile even if you don't have the spell in your list, and an extra projectile every time you cast Magic Missile (regardless of if you cast it through the item or from your spellbook). *Spineshudder Amulet* is looted off the Mimic in Isobel's bedroom in Moonrise; every time you hit an enemy with a ranged spell attack, you also inflict 2 stacks of Reverberation.

Two questions for Colby or anyone else kind enough to let me know what they think. Ring of Coruscation and Callous Glow Ring are great, but if you were playing support in a party of your friends, would you swap one out for Whispering Promise ( casts bless on any creature you heal for two turns, without needing concentration) and if so which ones. Then, this build leaves space for a cloak. Ive got 3 options and I can’t decide. 1. Thunderskin Cloak - has a chance to Daze creatures with the Reverberation condition when they damage the wearer. 2. Fleshmelter Cloak - does 1d4 of acid damage to anyone who damages the wearer 3. Cloak of Displacement - At the beginning of the wearer's turn, the cloak activates, granting enemies Disadvantage on Attack Rolls that target the wearer. This effects lasts until the wearer takes damage. ( would this stack with the other disadvantages?) Thanks in advance and thanks Colby found the channel a few months ago and absolutely love it all.

Thanks for the content! Just started a new honour mode run with a gythyanki paladin. Freeing Orpheus and saving the gith! This video is perfect timing love it!

Great build! I can't wait to try it out. I always use radiant damage for Shadowheart but never thought to do it this way. Reverberation stacks have always been confusing to me. Thanks for trying all the hard things and sharing it with us all! I love that you're showing yourself playing! Makes it so much easier to be brave and believe that I can manage playing the build. Also, I wanted to let you know that I only discovered your channel because you played BG3, so I hope you continue to throw us a video once in a while :)

One thing to note is that, from what I've read, Callous Glow doesn't technically deal radiant damage all the time, but only does it when dealing damage to enemies that are in areas of light. So in some cases you might want to swap out the weapon for something that generates light like Blood of Lathander, Moonlight Glaive (which also does Radiant damage), or even just swinging around a lit torch.
@krysuh69369 ай бұрын
Or a ring that produces light or 2 options cantrips from cleric or another party member that uses those spells on you.

The radiating orb condition lights enemies as well as part of its description. As long as you're radiating enemies, they're brightly lit, excepting maybe in the shadow-cursed lands. That place likes to extinguish lights.

Awesome build! I used a similar build in my honor mode run with minor changes (turns out radiating orb is so strong it works with a variety of builds, go figure). One thing i found that made act 1 and 2 a breeze was using luminous armor and radiance of the dawn from light cleric. Since the shockwave comes from your character and not where the damage is dealt, if you stand next to the big bad and cast radiance of the dawn, every creature you hit adds another 2 stacks of radiating orb to whatever you are next to, getting them to max stacks right away. Makes fights like the boss of the githyanki creche super easy right from round 1 since radiance of the dawn has a massive 30 foot range.

Would it be possible to make a character that grapples an enemy and jumps really high to weaponize fall damage? As far as i can tell it works RAW, the only effect grappling has on jumping is indirectly by halving your movement speed

I just arrived at the beginning of act three and happened upon a fantastic weapon for this build mere hours after watching this video, the Nyrulna! It can be found in the circus, after a bit of drama with the djinn Akabi. (On a side note, I'm loving these build videos. Keep it up!)

I just used this in my HR in the house of hope and it destroyed Raphael, he just couldn’t get a turn it was brilliant. Usually this wouldn’t work BUT I saw a tip that they have 1 turn Radiant reflect. You can use the Light of Lathander to hit a group and the mace will stop you from dying and give you a small heal. I preloaded the room with barrels and took elixirs for high initiative. I blew them up and they lost their reflect for some reason. Regardless challenge accepted im taking this build for a solo honor run with a bunch of “do not die” options to hopefully let me survive! Wish me luck 😅

This is a great build to augment a party. Soloing in Tact+ difficulties, you have to keep enemies at range (and best stay stealthed) to succeed. This build to do the most damage, you have to get up close and personal with combat. Some fights solo, this can lead to probably death.
@andyreid11328 ай бұрын
Thanks for the great build! I've soloed on Tactician up to the Ketheric (Apostle of Myrkul) but I just can't do enough damage. I might have to give up :(

Another quick cheesy strat: you can have Gale stay in camp while being a cleric 5 barb X with everything in CON and use him to cast AID (at least until your group doesn't have a higher slot for aid than lvl 3) and warding bond on everyone. Then you switch him out and you should still have the two buffs. What's amazing about this is that your group will be taking half damage from everything all day and Gale will not die in your camp since Larian gave him a self heal he can use all the time while out of combat. And he does that automatically

I think Tempest Cleric is worth considering for a radiating orb build. Reverb is inflicted on Lightning, Thunder, and Radiant damage. Our gear triggers Thunder and Radiant already, but Tempest cleric guves us access to lightning spells, which means more stacks of our incredibly powerful devuffs, and, more importantly, the ability to inflict said debuffs at great range. Bard is LIKELY the better option, but if you wanna go full cleric, I think Tempest is the way to go. Edit: Worth noting the boots you get from killing or koing minthara might be worth taking over Stormy Clamor boots, but then you get a bit less reverberation stacks but NEVER lose concentration Edit 2: I did a solo HM playthrough using a radiating orb build. The main thing the build needs is a way to deal with ranged characters, so I went High Elf and took Minor Illusion so I could start fights by first grouping everyone together. I also took Alert at level 4 as going first with this build was super important to ensure I could maximize my debuffs before my opponents got a chance to go. For the Gauntlet of Shar Fights that reflect radiant damage back at you 2x, I actually respecced completely to Swords bard 6, fighter 2, drank a strength elixir, and used titanstring and just kept kiting my enemies and if they got too close I used a bonus action to shove and would kite back some more. Made the gauntlet much easier and less punishing. Hags hair and Volos ersatz eye were likely the 2 most important act 1 buffs for the build as it allowed me with the Duargars super easily and when I got to yurgir, I took him and his merregons out without taking a single point of damage. Pretty much every fight is initiated by casting Minor Illusion from out of sight, or before they turn hostile, entering TB mode once enemies are all grouped up, and then running in with Spirit Guardians. I think the Lore Bard version of this is probably better than the straight classes Tempest Cleric I did, but even still, it was the easiest solo HM run I’ve done yet.

Sounds great and in good time as i'm currently thinking about playing through it again.

This reference is accepted. Especially with the thunder damage as a cherry on top. I'm tempted to say for theming alone the Tempest domain would be best fit for those levels :D

You know....given the amount of trick arrows that the game seems to want to throw at you, I'm surprised that I have not seen a Green Arrow/Arsenal build based on Gloomstalker Ranger/Assasin Rogue or Battlemaster Fighter/Open Hand Monk/Thief Rogue. All using the Archery fighting style and sharpshooter feat.
@lastdefenderofxhotl9 ай бұрын
Colby there's a slight misunderstanding your operating under. Your spellcasting ability score for items (unless it has a specific one coded for that item) is not based off the spellcasting ability score of the class you took at lvl 1, but off the spellcasting ability score of the last class you multiclassed into. So for example if you want wisdom as your spellcasting ability score the last class that you multi into has to be either Druid, Monk, Cleric, or Ranger. So respeccing for Sorc at level 1 works just fine as long as Cleric (or another Wisdom score class) is the last thing you multied into. The leveling order doesn’t matter only what was added to the mix last. So for example a Fighter 3/Druid 2/Barb 7 would use Charisma as its modifier for items because Larian decided Barbarian would have charisma as its casting ability.

@PeteCotton9 ай бұрын
@@krysuh6936 Surprisingly, Barbarian also uses Charisma as their spellcasting ability for scrolls and items in BG3. I'm guessing they picked this because of the Wild Magic subclass.
@krysuh69369 ай бұрын
@@PeteCotton Make sense since the class also use intimidation to rp so is not worthless to put some points there.
@lastdefenderofxhotl9 ай бұрын
@krysuh6936 Just grab Mourning Frost for the ray of frost cantrip. Use it to target one of your companions who's AC you will know, and respecc your stats a couple times to test which stat is being used for the attack roll modifier by doing the math. Also, Larian appointed every martial a dedicated spellcasting ability score as well. The half casters are kind of self-evident because they're explicitly being used for their saving throws. Rogue and Fighter are Intelligence because they have Intelligence 1/3rd caster subclasses. Monk is wisdom, which is also fairly self-evident. Barbarian is Charisma. It's less obvious, but it kinda makes sense.

@salamaneinglorion59569 ай бұрын
You have misunderstood how items and scrolls set their spell attack and save DC. It's the casting stat of the *last* casting class you took. So sorcerer at 1 then cleric at 2 will use WIS for items and scrolls. Other than that early game nitpick, loved the build!

I love the singing at the end of your videos, and look forward to it at this point, lol.
@danilche9 ай бұрын
Blood of Lathander both blinds (condition + disadvantage) and illuminates (for coruscation ring). so it synergizes really well with the build, and it doesn't take either an action to activate the singing, or the per-rest limit to re-activate it. I've bene using this build on Shadowheart in my run with Blood of Lathander, and it works amazingly. Blinding half the characters around her is awesome. The only shortcoming is that they tend to get blinded before they get the stacks, so they save against blindness more often. The way around is is to use your lightning / thunder offensive spells (e.g. Glyph or Warding) to place some radiant orb stacks first.

I've been thinking on a slightly different version of this build and am calling it the Radiant Avenger: 6 Lore Bard / 3 Light Cleric / 1 Wizard / 2 Vengeance Paladin 6 Lore Bard: Cutting Words, Magical Secrets (Spirit Guardians), etc 3 Light Cleric: mainly for Aid and Warding Bond, but also gets Radiance of the Dawn (Channel Divinity) 1 Wizard: Access to several spells, including lvl 6 ones like Globe of Invulnerability and Sunbeam 2 Vengeance Paladin: Martial Weapons (Phalar Aluve), Inquisitor's Might and Smites Downsides: - Only 1 Feat - No Constitution proficiency. I'd pick Resilient CON or War Caster with that 1 Feat. - No Extra Attack Notes: - This would be my main support character, so that's why I'm willing to invest 3 levels into Cleric to get Aid and Warding Bond - I'm also self-imposing a limitation to not use camp-casting on my run, so it is another reason to pick those spells up

I'm playing as Astarion, romancing Shadowheart and we are currently fifth. I made him an assassin with one level in ranger. I think I will respec Shawheart to war domain and then back to trickery at 6th to keep the unique dialogue, at which point Astarion will go Bard for a while. I already have the armor. Thanks Colby.
