Well read sir. You put true meaning into the words of this difficult text. You brought it to life. I was fascinated from start to finish. Thank you Mr. Delorme.

Yes, the Canterbury tales can be VERY tedious, especially for highschool students, (I know, I was there), but as a graduate student, I have to say that this story is filled with sooooo much! It’s insane! Misogyny, class, Emelye doesn’t get consent anywhere and she’s super young when the two knights first see her. The way prisoners of war were treated based on their class status....it’s so interesting to learn, I hope you guys have a good teacher to teach more than just summary of the tale.

I'm high school student in dual credit learning about english brit all our teacher does Is give us the book and make us write a summary on satire. Hardest thing but ig I have to do it wish it would be more explained
@parisamour134 жыл бұрын
Jojo Insall it’s really hard to break down the stories in the Canterbury Tales without Medieval background, but I can give you some questions I have in my notes from my Grad class & hopefully they help. As far as satire goes, we talked about the “religious” component of the story where they worship gods and such and I believe the knight talks about having fought against pagan kingdoms or so, so one of the questions we posed was “if you remove religion from violence is the knight’s “tale” a critique of violence? Or criticizing the non-distinction of “good” or “bad” violence within the context of conquering for religious purposes or invoking religion. Arcite prays to Mars (hopefully I remember this correctly) to win the battle but Palamoyb prays to win Emelye and while both occur, there is so much violence that leads up to this point it’s hard to see it as a story of valiant courage and romance. & when looking at the Tales, we gathered The Knight’s Tale, The Millers tale, & The Reeves Tale together. & we discussed the satire behind the Knights tale because it deals with trafficking and controlling women’s bodies (Emelye and Hippolita) & the knight is meant to be “Noble” but his story is anything but. & the other two are a little more demonstrative when it comes to discussing the violence against women and the satire behind the people telling the tales

I'm in a college class studying Chaucer, and all we talk about is whether or not what we're reading is feminist. Nothing else.
@parisamour134 жыл бұрын
Rebekah Simmons yeah it’s hard if you’re an undergrad :/ because it’s pretty dense and there is SO much more in these stories than just something simple. Grad classes can get deep into one novel if they want to.
