Hello! Just decided to pop in to let you know that you shouting out Johnathan is what lead me here as he gave you a shout out in return. I'm a new knitter and totally agree on a lot of male patterns having odd fit or old fashioned styling, Johnathan helps there, as does Caleb at Drowning in Yarn. Loving your very relaxing style, I'm currently adding the cabled edging to the Celtic Myths shawl and it's slow going, so you've been keeping me company and save through the process. Thank you. Also it's always amusing to hear subscriber figures when catching up on a back catalogue, a year on and your almost at 10k. Well done, I'm not surprised as you have an excellent production. Oh, and I love the sock pattern, those are going onto the queue.

Apparently there is more structural strength in a neckline knitted on afterwards than when you just knit it top down. It helps prevent the neckline stretching out and getting baggy with use. Certainly all of my top down sweater necklines get looser over time.

Lovely to see you! LOVE your sock and its name!! Since you asked: I'm about to cast on Ranunculus, so excited! Love the tee, appreciate learning it has more custom fits beyond set sizes; yes, I knit brainless/garter projects with non-knitting company because I knit without looking (which is easier to learn than you'd think, just try it!). Good to see you again Laura :) I can completely relate to the social anxiety thing. I've had it my whole life. Covid hasn't helped, cos I'm allowed to stay at home! My knitting pickle has been tickled by visiting an actual yarn shop!!! I got to touch the yarns, it was wonderful. My summer jumper is now complete, I've started a summer cardigan, and my v-pillow case is starting to take shape, I've only actually got projects for me on my needles right now, which is odd. I'm very much looking forward to seeing your technique/tutorial videos, the more knowledge I can gather the better :) Have a lovely time in Devon, safe travels xx

Always love your episodes Laura 🥰🥰🥰 I unashamedly knit anywhere and with everyone. I’ve knit in cafes, on the train, on a plane even and with friends and family. As you say it’s picking the right times so I wouldn’t knit if we were deep in a serious conversation but I’d feel comfortable if we were just chatting especially if the project is mainly just stockinette stitch in the round so I can knit without looking.

I already said this on your Instagram, but I wanted to comment again - what you're saying about the social anxiety really resonates with me and I feel very similar when we have people coming around. So it sounds like there are quite a few of us out there. Maybe because knitting is predominantly a rather solitary hobby, it attracts these kind of characters. I'm now past the stage of caring whether it's rude to knit in front of people or not, I just do it 😆 And to be honest, I never had anyone getting angry with me because of it 🤷🏻♀️ Anyway, great episode, as always a pleasure to watch 🤗

As always ....love your podcast. I can listen to you all day. So glad you overcame and enjoyed your friends stay. MMMMMMM a Knitting pickle...well was rather chuffed with myself this week as have knitted for years with two straight needles so thought was time to buy some circular needles as a lot of patterns are now top down and in the round (yet to attempt one) but my sister wanted a new beanie so have just knitted my first beanie on a circular needle and finished off with DPs (also a first) but what tickled my knitting pickle was that, as this is a whole new way of knitting it was very slow (am a thrower) so I started to do the knit rounds in the continental style (its wonderful and so fast, never tried continental before), working on the purl currently but ribbing is still a little out of my reach (just need to persevere) but apparently you can teach an old dog new tricks ....lol Much love from Down Under xox

Hi I definitely knit in front of friends, take my knitting when going to dinner at friends homes at cafes, etc. Regarding your felix, I knitting a garment that had short rows with a needle change after the rib, and had the same issue, I decided next time I would knit one round before the short rows. I think the problem is german short rows tighten the stitches so it's too hard for them to stretch onto a bigger needle. Another solution could be to change vneedles after the short rows.

Can't wait to knit those socks they are beautiful. Did you know that it is pronounced corni-chett-ay? The Italian pronunciation. Will there be any advice in the pattern to have the colour jogging at the back of the sock instead of along the side?
@_laurapenrose_3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t know that’s how it’s pronounced! I’ll probably leave the pronunciation up to the individual as I am the last person to advise on such things 😂 I’ve been saying ‘calendula’ wrong since episode 1 apparently 😂😂😂 The pattern advises heel placement so that the jog line runs down the inside of each sock as I find this the least conspicuous place. Moving it to the back would be easy but it would effect how/where the toe is knit and I’d like to keep this pattern as simple and streamlined as possible! I’ll look into how I could incorporate it and rub it by my testers! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Xxx

@@_laurapenrose_ thank you for replying! Now you say it's the inside that makes so much sense 😅 I was having a bit of moment where I pictured wearing it on the outside. I knit everywhere, I find myself as I get older and as my kids grow having a lot of time where I am sitting and doing nothing other than chatting with people. Baseball and football games, Dr.‘s offices, etc…and having raised 5 children I never got to do “nothing” for the last 29 years so I have to be doing something with my hands or I get serious anxiety about not “doing” anything. I don’t know if that makes sense, but I went to my 4th child’s High School graduation last night and I got there early to save seats and I had an hour by myself and I didn’t bring my knitting and I was literally screaming inside about just sitting and waiting and not accomplishing anything. My husband and son would have been super annoyed had I sat there knitting though, they would have found it totally unacceptable.

And if my guests can’t handle me knitting well then they don’t have to come round again do they! Thank you so much for watching and sharing your story! Xx

I would love a tutorial on your favourite cast on and cast off methods! I like to try all the different techniques but sometimes struggle with choosing which method would be the best option for what if a pattern doesn't specify a technique. Would love to hear your opinion and input.

That’s a great idea!! Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll put it on the list!!! Cast on and bind off is really important to me as I find it can really elevate a garment from homemade to handmade x

I knit around everyone. I need to knit to keep my focus or do something with my hands.

Check out Needles at the Ready on KZbin. They have a knit along called let’s hear it for the boys if I remember correctly that is all about male designers, male dyers, and male/unisex patterns.

When I knit around others, I choose things that I do not need to pay attention to. Its more of my hands are moving but I am still able to interact with others around me,

Not rude at all! I knit in front of people and friends all the time and they don’t mind. Though, I have to say that there are times when I don’t feel like knitting, because I’m so into the conversation or I’m so present in the moment and knitting would take me out of the moment. So I say, do what feels natural and normal to you. There are a few places I don’t knit, like at church haha, but other than that…knit away! 😬😍

Would love to see tutorials in German shiort rows, some of the more complicated cast on and cast offs too. Oh snd how about a tutorial for knitting a Renunculus ? I’m scared to tackle it alone but would love to knit one. Thanks so much xx

Please write a pattern for the camisole you are knitting- it tickled my pickle ! As for social knitting, I take mine out or bring it along when with family and friends (unless it takes too much concentration/pattern reading). I decide with whom I knit by one factor: have I knit something for them ? If anyone says something about it that referes to it being rude, I reply "I will put it away. I did not mean to offend you, it is that there are so many people I enjoy giving my knits to, that I try to do as much as possible." I had a person visit me and tell me the knitting was 'distracting'. I put it away. They asked me about knitting something for them the next time I saw them ! I told her "of course I can do that for you". (I just have not found the time yet.)

Thank you for your comment Dawn! It sounds like being flexible is the key to social knitting and respecting other people’s tolerances! X

If you can not use "knitting gritty" (which is clever) for your tutorials, perhaps "pickle jar" ? Really looking forward to your tutorials because I am anticipating you will explain things in a way easy to understand. I really like the way you describe your projects, colors and the way you make creative decisions.

I really like your videos but I have to say, the in the middle adverts are driving me nuts. I never mind at the beginning but the middle ones are loud and make me jump.

Hi joy, I’m glad you enjoy my videos! I’m sorry I can’t control the adverts that are shown and the volume, I try to make sure there are a minimum amount shown, but they do mean I can continue to make the podcast due to the revenue they bring. Have you considered KZbin premium? It’s great if you watch a lot of videos like I do! Thank you for watching! X
