Ben Askren's lack of pride over things that don't matter is commendable. He's focussed on the right things in his life, and taking this fight for huge pay day, is one of them. The residuals of that will pay dividends far longer than a few seconds of humiliation. Jake Paul will never fight a professional striker or fight MMA. If he ever does it, this grift will be over for him. He knows that.

This is how I can tell you've never been an athlete, at any level. As someone who grew up playing competitive sports and wrestling, I HATED losing. Literally hated losing! There isn't a chance that a guy who was a two-time NCAA champion, an Olympian, and a multiple-time MMA champion, would be "ok" and "happy" with losing to a guy like Jake Paul just for a paycheck. Ben can act like "eh it's whatever, I tried my best, but I'm fine". I GUARANTEE he was pissed with himself when he went back home and let his thoughts sizzle.

Ben walked away with some new found fans and a fully funded gofundme for childhood cancer for a family who needed it. So in a way I think it was a positive experience. At the end of the day, good people are gonna root for someone like Ben over someone like Jake regardless of the result. It's more impressive to be so mature and take whatever happens the way Ben does, far more respectable than the unhinged narcissism Jake operates on. At the end of the day Ben is the real winner because he has a good head on his shoulders, good people around him, and has plenty to be proud of. Jake is on some unchecked narcissistic rampage fueled by insecurity. Ben's got the better deal 100%. The attitude and perspective Ben has is far more inspiring than whatever is going through Jake Paul's brain. We need more Ben's in the world, not Jakes.

Ben most likely got hit in the Brachial Nerve on the side of the neck which can immediately stun and/or cause a knockout. This happens often enough in combat sports and it is an effective target. It’s often misinterpreted as something else and only picked up by the viewer on slow motion replay. Sometimes the brachial nerve strike is intentional but most times it is incidental (like a hook to the jaw or head the lands on the side of the neck) . It doesn’t take a lot of power for it to be effective, just hitting the right target.
