I have a KONG for a Husky and it was GREAT. I had an issue since he didn't want to be in the cage, but FREE like anyone else. I learned that the cage should be a HAVEN for the dog. Dogs should be trained to accept their area. You probably didn't do your homework ( like it happened to me ), specially knowing or not where he came from, nor the type of life he had. Now I leave the door open and he goes in to rest with his toys.He doesn't mind when the cage door is closed and him in it. WISH you the best with your beautiful friend.

I ve had many crates over the years and the Kong crate is one of the best! First thing is train your dog to find it as a safe haven, leave the door open, leave treats and toys and stay in the room with them, have music on or a tv and leave for a few mins. And come back, extend your leave. So it’s a gradual process but very successful! Plus if you see weak areas that’s what zip ties are for. But you just can’t throw them in and walk away that’s cruel!

I went through 4 crates in two years with my 125lb German shepherd. The 48” kong crate is the only thing that has ever held him. I had to rubber twist tie the doors shut because he figured it how to push them up but that’s an easy fix. I’ve had my Kong crate for 6 years now and it’s still solid. Otto had really bad separation anxiety too. It’s just starting to rust and most of it is from getting left outside.

I have a Kong Crate and could not be more impressed. If your dog is calm and happy to be crated then this crate is perfectly adequate. I would imagine most crates would struggle to hold a determined dog of this size...more of an indication that the dog shouldn't be crated.

Thank you for your thorough explanation of the Kong Dog Crate. I am having the same problem with one of our pups. She destroyed her crate that she has now because the metal is just not strong enough and I am so thankful that she has not hurt herself. I am still searching for something that she will be safe in when I need to put her in the crate. BTW...she was crate trained but all of a sudden she started to have anxiety in the crate. She has been in one for almost 8 years now so I do not know why her change.

My experience with crates that fold up is that they all have weak points. I started using thick zip ties in the weak spots and haven’t had any problems with them being flimsy or my dogs escaping them.

Doesn’t seem like it’s the cages fault it looks like to me You just got him and he maybe suffering from separation anxiety.. what I mean is nothing is going to hold him NOTHING if all he’s going to do is bounce around in it probably howling because he’s not wanting to be apart from you Inside Kennels however advertised aren’t meant for that You should try him in an outside kennel that are meant for outside activities or put him on a low dose anxiety meds .. until he gets comfortable long enough to be apart from you It’s not the cage I promise I have a Siberian Husky .. no matter the cage if a dog wants out they will get out ... and something to think about .. they have hours .. and hours once inside to just pick and pick and pick at something until it finally breaks it finally results in released dog

Wow we love our Kong crate works really well, the key for us was constistancy and never ever ever using the crate as a punishment, instead make it a rewarding place that the dog loves, before long you too will have a dog that loves the crate rather than hates it and will even stay in the crate even when they dont have to (with the door to the crate wide open) like our dog :)

He'll get out of any crate. We had a whippet, very small dog, and she ripped the tiny bars off a full, heavy-duty plastic crate, and got a bunch of those little bars stuck in her neck (we're talking about a 4-inch space she managed to get her head through).

We ordered the current cage from amazon “HAIGE PET Your pet nanny”. Not sure if Yotube will let me share the link in a comment. I’ll post it in the description. It’s a heavy duty cage. Emphasis on HEAVY. Tank quickly learned he couldn’t break out.

Yeah. I got the huge one, and my 40 pound mutt (She's about knee high and 3 feet in length), bent the steel bars enough that it became a danger for her. Basically, I've come to realize, some dogs cannot be caged or secluded in a room. My dog also eats through doors if confined.

My kong crate is totally different. It has doors that completely have to be lifted up for the dog to get out. It is also reinforced around the edges. Maybe they make a budget model and a more expensive model ?

Not that we’re in the market for a cage right now but after searching, I can only find one type of Kong cage. On their own website I wasn’t able to find any cages in their product search. Like a lot of things in life, a product starts out well made, and in an effort to save money the quality takes a dive.

I loved those Kong crates with the door sliding up. It seems like they’ve discontinued making them. Had I known that, I would have kept my old Kong regardless. These others don’t compare. That was the only crate that worked on my Shepard. All the others were a waste of time.

so in truth, its not the crate, its the dog and the dog needs training... I have used the Kong crates for my Pits and never an issue, but again they are crate trained...as the old saying goes, a trained dog is a good dog, or as Caesar would say, there are no bad dogs, only bad humans.

First of all you should have an extra large and not a large I bought the retriever cage extra large for my seven month old pit because I want to make sure she had plenty of space to not feel bald up to create anxiety give them enough room to set a toy in there with him a lot him to know that the place he goes for comfort and it’s OK to be in there it’s not a punishment space however I did have a smaller crate that my dog did not go to when she got in trouble but there’s larger one is her home when we’re not home she’ll have plenty of space to stretch out and still play with her toys

Some of these comments look like they’re from fake accounts. What is the difference between this kong wire cage and the AmazonBasics cage, for example? Looking from the outside they all look the same, but the Kong is 50 dollars more expensive.
@PromisKeeper
@PromisKeeper 9 ай бұрын
I don’t think you’ll see much difference. It’s really going to depend on the type of dog you’re trying to cage. You’ll need more than just this thin wire with cheap tack welds if the dog doesn’t consider the cage a safe space. For us, we just needed time for Tank to get used to his new home. He does not like being in a cage and we no longer keep him in one when we are gone.

Number one your dog is a rescue so it’s gonna suffer from social anxiety if he actually loves you. You just got done explaining full detail that it has social anxiety so you’re doing a good job because they dog loves you after being abused. Number two you just got done saying that the dog escaped them and sat by the front door. Get rid of the cage as a holding cell. Have the cage for his own home but don’t like him in unless need be. I’m an animal rescuer playing music helps when social anxiety happens with animals. Leave a TV on .

He was not caged for very long before we could trust him to not destroy anything. We did have to buy a sturdier cage when we moved to a new house 4 years ago and he had an episode where he tore up some irreplaceables left alone. It was only for a short time and he has been "free range" since then. We recently moved to a new home and he acclimated quickly so we have not brought the cage out at all.

A screw eye in the wall and a dog leash makes an instant $1.50 dog crate. Add a baby crib mattress for a cheapo dog bed. Crates accelerate anxiety.

No, like some other folks with determined dogs, he broke through zip ties too. If he can get a tooth on one it’s over. Fortunately we don’t have to cage him anymore. He’s safe to be left out when we’re gone.

@@PromisKeeper Wow, bummer! But glad to hear he’s not a destructive dog when you leave him at home. Yeah it’s really hard to find a crate to contain a dog that tries to escape. The one you linked to I have purchased several times over for client dogs who had the same issue. They do the trick, but boy are they awkward to assemble and then you still need to get a cover. Gunner kennels are my favorite but they are insanely expensive.

Zip ties were a thought, we seen other people try and fail. If the dog can get its teeth on a zip tie they break pretty easily. With these cages though, our dog was able to actually start ripping the welds apart. Zip ties will help hold the corners together but not much good if he rips the rest of the cage to shreds. lol

Your dog, or your training, is the issue. It's a collapsible cage, bro. Then you tried to use 30 cent clips. Cmon, man. The problem isn't the cage. it's the sturdiest cage made.
