That dating show Edward was talking about sounds like MTV’s “Next”. Came out in the 2000s and they would do the same thing. If the guy or girl didn’t like them or how they looked, they’d say Next and then the next person would come out of the bus

I agree Asian Boss interviews are quite good and educational and also make an effort to show both sides of a topic and randomly sample interviews rather than leading a story a certain way. Also since they are largely crowd funded now they have less incentive to be biased since they are not trying to please big sponsors.

In the past, yes. But their videos lately are getting tired and boring. There are plenty of other street interview alternatives that does a much better job. It’s all a matter of finding the right content subject matter and doing excellent subtitles.

So, in terms of NewJeans being brand ambassadors for these major labels (Gucci, Chanel etc.), there apparently was a discussion going on in Korea, since they're directly influencing these really young kids (like elementary to high school). These young students keep asking their parents to buy them expensive luxury goods and beauty items from the brands they see their favorite idols promoting. NewJeans especially is tricky, because they are so young themselves and have a very youthful image appealing to the newer generations. So, the members (or rather their management) were criticized for setting the standard (or I guess the illusion) for teens to be wearing luxury fashion. Personally, while I agree it's smart business wise for both the brand and the group, I can see where the criticism is coming from. I don't agree that it's directly their fault, because capitalism lol and also it's the parents task to educate their kids that celebrities mostly don't war clothes that "normal" teens wear. On another note, I feel like some years ago new groups, especially those with a youthful image, were rarely seen wearing luxury brands. I remember kpop fans hunting down items and buying it to match with their biases. Now it's basically impossible to buy anything an idol is wearing without breaking the bank, haha. I think some of the NewJeans girlies look absolutely stunning in their respected brand (e.g. Hanni for Gucci), but sometimes it does just look like a young girl wearing her mother's clothing 😅 No hate to the members whatsoever, I'm a big stan. Their styling for their comebacks and other activities is always on point and fits their image/branding so well. But I guess the indie brands often featured in their looks can't afford having someone like them as ambassadors and generally ambassadors are a thing reserved for the luxury world. Just my two cents on the topic! Love the pod xx

Re: the reality contestant to influencer pipeline. I think it’s prevalent worldwide especially on these dating shows. Look at love island or THTH for example. Everyone knows it’s a gateway for social media clout and careers.

I would love if foreigners in Korea would explore cities and districts that are less common but have some charm. Or visit temples where monks frequent and talk more about the culture and religion. I just get the same bland stuff. It was fun to hear things about clubbing, and the convenient store foods, and "how it is to be___" in Korea. But its outdated .

One time happened to me in Paris, I was going to a library to study and a older and young korean womens approached me with a sweet post it where it was written in french what they were asking, so I immediately thought they were tourists looking for informations. it started like: "I'm currently trying to study french and the BIBLE...etc" 😅 not even the time to continue reading I said I don't speak french and run away, but now I am actually really curious about their tactic, I wished I remained ahaha

next time someone bothers you you can pull out your phone or act like you're late for an appointment you're trying to get to here in Canada I wear headphones all the time when I'm out because it's usually cold and keeps my ears warm but also I can pretend that I can't hear them or pretend you are getting a call and it's important and people won't bother you ;) [I often get homeless people here that will walk up to you an grab you to ask for money and follow you and it scares me so that's another reason I use headphones even if my music isn't playing at the time just to keep people away (some think it's rude but those people are usually extroverts and I'm an introvert and I don't need them sucking my energy dry either)
