The Kral Puncher Empire X - Fitting a Robert Lane Regulator

In this video I show how to fit the Robert Lane Regulator to the Kral Puncher Empire X PCP rifle. This is the full tune, which means opening up the valve transfer port from 2mm to 2.8mm. The regulator can be fitted on its own without the transfer port being touched, and the regulator is set at 90 bar as standard, which would probably work well without the work to the valve transfer port.
If you go the full hog and do the valve, then you will have to be prepared to make adjustments to the valve spring pressure, as the power will increase once the valve port is opened up. By packing the valve spring, it makes the valve harder to open with the standard hammer spring, so the power comes back down to the correct levels. You may also need to adjust the hammer spring adjuster either way, and also the regulator pressure. This all takes time, but if done right you will benefit by lots more shots per charge.
The final set up with this rifle if you go the same route of the full tune is:
2.8mm transfer port of the valve. Three delrin washers, two of which come in the regulator kit. Set the regulator to 70 bar. Wind the hammer spring screw out by 1 & 1/4 turn. This gave me an average of 11.2 ft/lbs.

This extractor and opposite way drill bit set can make removing the anti tamper snap off bolts a lot easier. By using the drill bit, you will find that the snap off bolts should unscrew, even without using the extractor bits:

Thanks Mark, I have watched this video two or three time now and am just about to embark on fitting a reg. I notice that there are two sizes quoted so I intend to take the cylinder off to make sure of the measurements before ordering. I have to say that you must take an enormous amount of time putting your videos together with the explanations interspersed with the actual work. Glad my information was helpfull. That's the hole reason that I do this. It's a really nice gun as well. I did the work for my friend. The rifle was really accurate, and to be honest it didn't need a regulator, but it now benefits from more shots per fill, and a consistant shot string from start to finish, with no curve to worry about. As soon as the shots drop off, you know it's come off the regulator, and time for a re-fill.

Brilliant video thank you, I have the exact same rifle and reg and had the same issues as you had with the regulator. I was originally sent a 30mm regulator but on the empire x it should be 29mm and even then I had to put a slightly larger o-ring in too. When testing I got 11.5, however after filling the rifle up to 200bar the power dropped to 7ftib and slowly rose up to 11+. The reg was set to 85bar

Yes, they are easy to work with. You just have to remember that once you do any alterations and remove the anti tamper it voids any warranty, but most of the main parts are easy enough to get. All I would say before committing to the work is that it has no problems before you start, such as barrel issues. If they are accurate and no obvious problems then I'd go ahead, if you are confident enough.

This is a very informative video. I just wanted to know why you wouldnt lighten the hammer and cut some coils of the spring rather then shim the valve up. If you lighten the hammer and spring your less likely to get hammer bounce and it will make the gun more efficient. it will also prolong the seal of the valve too

No, the Gamo Phox would do well. Its BSA based and all their range benefit from a regulator. It's probably similar to the Ultra. Great value for their money.

I did my gamo boxer which is basically same action as yours .I wasn’t bothered about shot count just consistent shot fps. Told Robert this and he sent the reg set to 110 bar and detailed instructions plus all the spacers and drill bits needed. I said as long as I still get at least 50 shots I’d be happy ( get that easy before going off reg with an ES of 7fps so I would say it’s worth it

@@Airgunfunrich Yes, as long as the regulator is doing its job you are guaranteed a flat shot curve until you come off the regulated pressure, which can only improve shot consistency.

It would be between the Empire X and Pro 500. For me I would sway towards the Bullpup for its better balance and shot count.

Alright mark good video really interesting. Your pretty good at working on air rifles I haven't got a clue and I've always wondered how much difference it can make adjusting the hammer spring. I've got a Brocock concept xr and I've fitted the folding stock. When you do that you have to change a couple of parts . now when the stock is in the folded position you can see the hammer spring adjuster you just need a Allen key. I've not altered it but always wondered how much difference it would make if any or do you need to adjust the regulator aswell. I don't intend on doing it just curious . Depending on where you live turning it clockwise will increase power and anti clockwise will lower it, but give you more shots. Brocock/Daystate set their rifles at the most efficient output for Country's that have no restrictions, but altering the spring pressure and even regulator pressure will make differences. All Country's with power restrictions will have anti tamper fitted, which requires a speshall tool to remove. As they are all regulated for the specific power required they are usually set at their optimal power setting, so it will come down to the projectile to decide on the final outcome. Most tests are carried out with JSB/Daystate pellets in all calbers and the most efficient one is used for the final tune, with a margin bellow sub 12 ftlbs for the safety of becoming Illegal in the UK market.

I'm in England near Birmingham when I fitted the folding stock adapter the only anti tamper I saw was a little sticker over a couple of grub screws. It was easy to fit but the hammer spring adjuster is built into the part that you have to remove to fit the folding stock adapter. I just measured how far it stuck out on the inside (the hammer spring adjuster) then screwed the new one in to the same place. Hopefully it will be ok because I haven't got a chronograph yet to check the power it does seem the same though when fired. Thanks mark

You would have to confirm that that with Robert Lane. There are different sizes depending on the valve type and internal diameter.

The gun seems front heavy to me, I'm thinking of doing this mod and then getting a slightly smaller carbon fiber tank up front thinking I'd get about the same shot counts as stock but a lot less weight.

A 500cc carbon tank will save 1/2 kilo, a 300cc only another 100g. Not really worth going smaller than stock.

Hi Mark, bought a Lane reg for my Ultra se but am confused as to weather I drill out the transfer port or not. Sub 12 by the way. Fitted reg as per instructions ie just a straight swap like for like but power dropped off and reg didnt appear to be working. I REALLY could do with your expertise on this matter as got nowhere when speaking to someonr at RobertLane.

Doing the straight swap usually does drop the power. You will need to biuld the power up with your hammer spring. If you have removed the anti tamper it's usually a matter of adjusting the tension on the spring by turning the adjuster clockwise. If it doesn't have an adjuster, you can pack behind the spring with washers. For first timers this is the easiest way. A full tune requires opening up the transfer ports as recommended by Robert Lane. The big problem then is to tame the power, which means putting more tension on the valve spring, which can create its own problems. I have been regulating my Reximex Regime, but I have had to use so much packing its caused stress on the plastic valve seat, which now needs replacing.

With a Huma Air regulator they come pre-set too your barrel length and its a proper D i Y fit with no drilling and no spacers and no extra O rings too be added . 🤣Once fitted simple adjust your hammer spring till your happy with the power .

@@airgunsniper-elite7385 Thanks again Mark. Did the straight swap, power dropped. Adjusted hammer spring tension but cant get it to shoot 8.44 gr over 740fps, was shooting at 785fps b4 I put reg on. Ordered new knockoff valve and spring now and try that. If that doesn't work then I am at a loss as to the problem. Ps, love the vids and enjoy your content,hope you keep it up. My youngest lad is in 2 Para and got me into airgunning recently so still learning the ropes yet.

@@markcox7357 The next option would be to turn the reg up another 5 bar. Sometimes the air isn't enough at the set reg pressure when not opening the transfer ports. He sets them at what he thinks it needs. Go one click or half a click anti clockwise. That should do the job..

@@markcox7357 Robert sets the reg to what thinks will be right. If you've left the transfer port alone, turn the reg adjuster anti clockwise by one click. With another 5 bar you may find you have to turn the hammer spring adjuster down, rather than up.

I also use normal stainless washers and grind them down to fot with these projects as under pressure the delrin can squash too much.
