@Sydney 1 the chart positions are no longer about how many times a song is played. before you could listen to a song once an hour and it will count 1 listen, so fandoms increased the song's position. Now, they changed it so the number of daily listeners affect the position. if a song is doing well with the general public it will have more daily listeners so it will rise. fandoms affected the ranking too much in the previous system, they kinda cheated the system. music sites want a better representation of a songs popularity by making the charts about how many people actually listened to it, not how many times it was listened to

i'm genuinely so bummed out that gfriend decided to push themselves so hard and be experimental and released such excellent music with an excellent concept, yet the gp refuses to acknowledge or reward them for it... ugh, i truly hope the girls and their label don't get discouraged bc of it and just keep pushing forward regardless. they still have so much untapped potential and the girls clearly want to keep exploring beyond their usual concepts, but i'm worried that this will scare them off from trying new things (like what happened with Fingertip). They were so nervous about showing a new side to them and it makes me sad to think that they may think they made a mistake, especially when "Apple" is so damn good and they did an incredible job. Sigh. EDIT: the replies have truly inspired me and have helped me feel a bit more hopeful about GFriend's future, so thank you. I'm glad to hear that the album itself is doing amazing and you guys are right, they do have a bigger label and more experience now, so let's hope that they predicted the initial pushback and continue pushing forward and improving with each comeback no matter what!

No, this is only the beginning. The girls had a talk with Bang Pd in person about their career and I'm sure they expected the first impression of the public to be not that good. I think they're aiming for a larger fandom and this concept has given them a lot of interest from non fans. The worst thing they could do is to go back to their innocent concept. Also they have to finish the trilogy so next comeback will probaly be even darker.

This is their best selling Album! While the charts could have been better, I would not give up the AMAZING Album sales for a PAK or ALL KILL. This CB was fantastic, and they gained new fans and increased their fanbase. Yes, it's slow growth, but it is sustainable growth. Gfriend is past the "Trend" stage, it's doubtful they will ever chart in the top 5 again, but that's okay.. as long as they keep selling albums.

hhol8 it’s because the Korean buddies expect them to stay in same vain as there former top tracks. Fingertips, Sunny Summer, and Fever(even though widely acclaimed) Korean fan aren’t fans of when they like switch it. It’s very polarizing but I get tired of orchestral / ballad sound but the choreography and cinematic mvs makes up for it and then I lose interest. Their career music wise reminds me of IU, I wondered if they’ll get the musical freedoms that IU finally received.

I actually got more fairy tale vibes from this (Grimm is very dark so lots of dark inspiration) than Eden apple. I would disagree and argue for Snow White and the Apple, briar rose, blood, the mention of sleep and dreams (maybe even dream of the red chamber??), a nod to the “witches” in fairy tales as well as the “princesses” or “good girls”. Even the red glass orb replacing the Apple. I also think some of the visuals were meant to be a small nod to txt and bts mvs as well. And glass bead as their first mv. Then there's conflict between them and to fix it eunha heard a whisper that told her to search for the blue butterfly. Honestly, I really really enjoyed everything about this comeback (except for the crappy work with promoting on shows etc and there was only around 2 weeks of promotions sadly but the girls are having their 2nd series of their reality show ‘Memoria’ up on KZbin by the 8th of August onwards- once a week) Plus the girls finally got their own personal Instagram accounts a few months before the comeback which was amazing! If anyone doesn’t know about this here is the @‘s :) Sowon- @onedayxne Yerin- @every__nn Eunha- @rlo.ldl Yuju- @yuuzth SinB- @bscenez Umji- @ummmmm_j.i This MV was shot beautifully and I really loved the sets! I believe it had a blue screen if that’s what you call it, chroma key? It’s more viewable in the behind the scenes :) They didn’t incorporate a part that was only shown in the 2nd MV teaser where there was a group shot where they were sat under the tree but the background was like what was seen when Yerin was in the Labyrinth. It was like a misty/ foggy forest (which was also shown on the timetable for this comeback) showing the foggy forest with the white Labyrinth in the middle of it. Their story telling video “A Tale Of The Glass Bead: Butterfly Effect” is linked to Apple as it finishes off where the MV begins with Eunha. The video shows the girls running through a forest wearing different outfits from their previous MV’s as if they were stuck in different timelines, notably alone. And my theory from when that video was released was that the Apple tree was the centre of the labyrinth and turns out I was right by looking at the white outfit choreo scenes with the white walls surrounding them and when SinB is with the Apple tree near the beginning of the MV. The lyrics about the “translucent glass beads glowing red” and the visual effects of the red beads based on their storyline is linked to using the blue butterflies to turn back time and everytime they use a butterfly their own bead will turn darker until something that is out of their control will happen (this is based on something that comes in their album called Märchen which I believe means something like storybook in German- there was also one in the Labyrinth album). There’s translations up on an account called @odetteswan for both of the märchen’s But this album in general is very musically great in my opinion. Stairs in the north is based on SinB’s feelings and thoughts as a part of Gfriend. Very emotional and touching 🥺 she expressed this to Hitman Bang and FRANTS and they helped to put it into lyrics! very very thankful that she shared these feelings! Gfriend themselves actually expressed about wanting to change things up a bit. Sowon was all up for it, Yuju and SinB were ok with it (SinB said she was just nervous about what people would think like “Gfriend? All of a sudden?” And Umji and Eunha were nervous! They said this was also the longest they’ve prepared for a choreo in a long time because it’s a different style than usual! They worked consistently from after Crossroads to prepare for Apple! They were glad to show a different side of them, they even practiced their facial expressions which they hadn’t really done since debut! I’m very intrigued as to what they’ll do next but I’ll know I’ll love it! Ik SinB said today on a Fansign that she’d like to try a “strong concept, like a fire concept” It seems as though their confidence has increased which I’m glad about! Actually Sinb spills the tea the other day, I forgot which interview/show. She said the stage outfit are expensive...and her voice faded at the end while she looks around lol. For me it's good that they don't promote that much. For a music show they have to wake up maybe 4 or 5am before going salon, Bfast lunch in car/waiting room, meeting, rehersal etc. And got back home midnight and repeat next day since music shows are back to back. Idols call the promotion time as hell hours. Especially now when there's no fans cheering up for them cause of the virus. Also the company try to minimize artist's activities do they won't catch the virus from people around them. Anddd, they seems to be preparing some other stuff too! I'm looking forward to it! Nephillus JC yes of course I prefer for them to be healthy and rest rather than be tired etc. A lot of the stage outfits were custom-made hence why they are expensive! The problem I have with short promotion periods is the lack of motivation of the fans, once promotions end the fans lose motivation to do things such as streaming and voting (although some still do of course) But in terms of shows, there is a lack of them. I know many buddies especially on twitter have complained about this but as we all know we never know what’s going on behind the scenes etc. The girls may not want to go on some of them or there may be problems etc so who knows! But I’m glad that we’re getting the 2nd set of Memoria even though it’ll be probably around 4 episodes too since it was 2 days and 1 night like the 1st set! I’m appreciative of the content!

I'm with you in trying to place where in "retro" Apple's sound may have been inspired from, but so far it gives me the same feeling as late 80's / early 90's pop with the bass/electric guitar-driven hooks, along with the synths in the background and vocal chops of the chorus. As someone who listens to a lot of old goth music, there is inspiration here from that that I picked up on and I think that is just so fascinating. A pop track! Inspired by old goth! The hook in this took me straight back to The Cult- she sells sanctuary and Alone again or by the damned. I think it’s the perfect witchy-ness and the ghostly guitars! Just brilliant

To me it's also a great nod to them growing away from their original schoolgirl concept. Biting the apple symbolizes the loss of innocence. They were at a crossroad and now they've grown from the harmless innocent girls to mature, strong women. The symbolism in this song and video hits on many levels, it's great!

I feel like going along with the title of the album being “Song of the Sirens”, rather than the apple/garden representing the Garden of Eden, it represents the golden apples from the Garden of the Hesperides (nymphs of the evening/golden light in Greek mythology, here portrayed by the members). The Garden of Eden is probably an influence, too - as well as other similar stories from other cultures - but I feel like the Hesperides works particularly well with the light/dark and innocent/seductive duality in the music video (with the apples being presented as both apples of “joy” and “discord” in different mythological contexts).

does this remind anybody else of Alice In Wonderland? The red of the apple kind of remind me of the red queen along with the throne room vibes. Even their green dance set is like her court yard for nobles. The long table set of food is kind of like the tea time with the mad hatter especially with everyone spilling and knocking things over. Also Yuju puffed out smoke with a butterfly in her hand at 4:29, making me think of the caterpillar with the hookah. Maybe it's just me lol

The part where Umji, Sinb n Eunha being a puppet for Yerin, Sowon and Yuju, both 3 members who resemble a puppet actually has a 'glass bead' on their head. Glass bead tht always use by a witch to cast a spell or see future/past/present.
