I really dont get where the doubt of haters was coming from for Irene's dancing ability though. She's always been so good. Heck there were even arguments within the fandom in the first few years if she was actually the main dancer of the group (even then it was obviously Seulgi, but newer fans at the time werent able to tell). I feel like SM making RV wear high heels on literally every comeback after Rookie has really warped people's perspective of their dance ability. Whereas many other ggs would dance on more comfortable footwear, RV just had to have this extra hurdle. They still dance good enough on heels, but their finesse is so much more obvious on comfortable footwear. Their dance practices and earlier comebacks should have been enough justification.

@@hashhood3394 Exactly. Irene proved her dance skills even before her debut in Red Velvet - her be natural dance practise was amazing. The director of this is Shim Jaewon who's the performance director of SM and has handled almost every SM artists. The camera work after the first chorus is something I'd seen him do with Xiumin's solo concert practice. I recognized it immediately after I saw this portion. And you'll be able to see this exact camera work on their practice video. It is not anything done on post production, they attached the camera to Irene while taking that shot. Shim Jaewon's work is pretty sick, do check out Irene's solo video.

I agree this is the most difficult choreo of year for sure, but the Korean awards never pay attention to choreography, take first love from afterschool doing pole dance and signing as idols, they don't deserve the artist they have, in the end of the day these awards are only for making more money out of the most famous idols of the year, doesn't matter who win or not they're there making another concert with the fake awards

i definitely could see red velvet doing naughty. But at the same time they don’t go so far from red velvet’s concept, they still look and sound very different from anything rv related. you don't always need money to produce beautiful mvs, creative minds can blow minds as well. naughty did just that. but whatever sm does, they always deliver.
@mayaraya47944 жыл бұрын
to be veeeeery honest, the CGI doesn't work, seems unnecessary to me. they could've left it to the performance part only, to give the vogue, classy film (idk but it just reminds me of Madonna), even without the tunnel scene this MV still a killer. and the dramatic music in the intro sounds too typical like it comes from audiojungle and feels VCR-ish. but don't get mad, that's just my personal opinion and that's what i think.
@codename-pi4 жыл бұрын

@johnsbananachokedmehelp4 жыл бұрын
I personally think it's kinda meh too, SM can do better than that imo 😥 The elegance and sophistication of the concept faded because of that (well for me), but when I watch the MV I just focus on their dancing and the whole video prior to that CGI outro. It's still a very good MV ofc 😊🌿

@@johnsbananachokedmehelp yes! I kinda worried when i see the spoiler about the CGI, it's too risky. I don't know why did they force to apply CGI in every Aseul videos. Even the evil face on Monster MV is...hmmm i have mixed feelings once it appears. Uncover MV is the one that works really well to me.
@keithcraig5064 жыл бұрын
@@johnsbananachokedmehelp That was kind of the point. The performance is the central part of the video, the main focus. The outro CGI is only there to show Irene & Seulgi separating for episode 2 and 3. It's a nice touch, in a story line sense, but it's, at best, an add on. Also, they're not going to dump a ton of money into top notch CGI for a b-side performance video. I do agree that the intro could have been a bit better, but, again, it's a performance video for a b-side track. All it was meant to be was a little filler, to give us a little something before they jumped right into the performance itself. Could it have been better? Absolutely. But for what it was, well, it served it's purpose.

I think the shaky camerawork in the closeups emphasizes the bass on the track so it might have been intentional
@Bobbias4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't make the connection with the bass. I'd say it's more likely that they just wanted things to be a little bit higher energy. The actual camera movements are quite sudden, and since the choreo relies on fast movements with lots of poses being held (especially during that section), I think that the shots might have been a little too "clean" to have the amount of energy they wanted.

Man SM just never disappoints when it comes to creativity, quality songs and choreographies👌🏻 Naughty is such a unique kpop choreography I don’t think no one has ever done full tutting in a kpop song before. It really deserves Dance of the Year but knowing how it works- they’re just gonna give that award to the most popular one and its unfair🤷🏻♀️ Seulgi and Irene (and their choreographer) worked their asses for this. I kinda feel like you undersold how significant the choreo and musical style was. This is going to be a genre defining MV when it comes to using tutting in videos and help ushering kpop into my experimental genres. Also, I don't think "Naughty" sounds like any RV b-side I've ever heard before. It's not silly, cute, soulful, or RnB'ish, it's a really mature futuristic house track that I can't say I've heard RV (or any of the bigger kpop groups) do before. It does remind me a little of the Jus2 project just because of the heavy IDM influence, even though the genre and tempo is very different. But you can tell that the Swedish producers have a good grasp of the European house and UK 2-step Garage scenes. I actually like "Naughty" a lot more than "Monster", even though "Monster" was a great track. It's one of those kpop tracks that doesn't feel like a guilty pleasure, because it's just so solidly made and falls within a genre/subgenre of music that transcends pop music. While I do feel that Seulgi is a significant cut above Irene in terms of vocal performance, charisma, and presence on the track (Seulgis part of the first bridge gets me hype, and when she sings "Don't you get it?", gestures to her temple, and smiles cheekily, it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside). To me, they just work incredible well together as a subunit. While Irene doesn't bring the singing talent to match Seulgi's, she is such a good performer, and her perfectionist side makes it so that she is never going to be outshone by much. I love their chemistry as well, they seem really comfortable together.

I think that most people don't notice it right away, but there is so much work post production and in the editing part that it is craaazy. It's so fun to analyze everything. Like how they hide and erase some shadows but not others how the white screeb behind doesn't really brightens, that the tunnel section is probably not always shot outdoors and some of it is just a green screen, etc. Like there is SO MUCH to say. Obviously the POV scene is the best part but there is so much that you can notice. I had to watch the mv at least 10 times to notice all the small details and it's such a delight to find new details everytime I watch it

The more you listen to Naughty, the more you like it. Also, the dance is absolutely amazing and it has us all that love dancing trying to learn this choreography, it's so fun and hard. As you said, the music video is nothing out of this world but it's pretty and it has those special parts that are very satisfying to watch, like the pov part. Seulrene/Aseul slayed! Edit: I also think that this is one of the best examples on how to film a good performance video. That’s strange. Easy editing? What a strange way to phrase that. I mean editing in general is...easy. What makes editing such an undertaking is just that it’s time consuming. So yeah in a way it’s easy but I would never openly say the editing is easy, it feels belittling. Yeah a lot of the ideas in this video are easy and simple but it’s still time consuming to do it all, especially the more creative effects. It’s about context; compared to a mainstream title track MV? Sure this doesn’t have much. But what was the intent of the MV? Wellllll SM clearly gave this project no real money so the director had to get creative but keep it simple and easy enough to fit the very small budget. Within that context this video is so praise worthy.

Like you said, PD, it doesn't take a big budget to make a good music video. But it also takes a lot of skill on the artist's part to really captivate the viewers with just their choreography/charms without the need to rely on the background visuals for an MV. I think this is something only the likes of Irene & Seulgi can pull off. Of course, it would be nice to see this start a movement for other idols to emulate. I always admire it when groups do something out of their comfort zone, and it's even more amazing to see it succeed. This choreography is crazy and something I never expected from I&S. This is one of the most memorable MVs of 2020 indeed. I'm always coming back to watch Irene do tutting with her smol hands.
