The romanian producer Monoir originally wrote it for the bulgarian singer Dara. Both versions give off very different vibes, plus kai’s coreography adds a little bit of spice to the song.

Actually, this song is a remake of Bulgarian singer Dara's "Mr. Rover". They added some things in this version (in the vocal department), but I think the instrumentals are the same. Go check it out if you are curious! The original is also pretty fun :D

Also, I don't know if you know the movie Billy Elliot but it is one of his personas in the mv hence the appearance of the ballerinas. Kind of a little tie in of inspiration from his personal life. Kai is always somewhat flirty in his songs, but I think with Rover and the b-side "Bomba" , he really found his sound! The whole Rover album to me is as good as the very first one, and maybe even better... It's more mature for sure. And Kai said that this time he wanted to do what he himself would like, not what fans expected of him. It was unexpected indeed! So new yet so Kai, totally reflects him, but totally unpredictable. The whole album is a masterpiece. As Kai himself, he's totally made himself working hard every day and continuing to develop himself into a greater artist than he already is.

wait until you see the Film:KAI for rover 😃 i love rover, i love the album too, especially his vocals in it. he really really improved vocally since peaches. i can't get over how round and full his voice now, how diverse his range is and he just belted that note like its paying his rent. also i love how happy and excited he is for this album, which in turn gets ME excited. last but not least, i love how commercially attractive as a title track rover is, it gets you hooked from the 1st listen and the dance challenge going viral, which gets a lot more people curious to know him. kai just never misses. 3/3 no skip albums

Unexpected and definitely Kai. Loved Rover, I feel this album was a flex for Kai. His voice has that beautiful timber in his lower registers and Iends to his brief melodic rap transition. His vocals are not like the rest of the EXO members like Chen/Baek/DO/Suho who can belt out high notes. To me, Kai's voice has a bit more color and suited for his aura. His vocals are unique, memorable but very underrated . He is definitely more than just a pretty face. His performances are exciting to watch and he is a fantastic solo performer. An hour and half with Kim Jongin will feel like just 15 mins. You don't know where the time went and very sad when the performance is over. Our Mr. Rover 🌀🌀🌀. Good luck on your move to SoKo.! Thanks for the reaction! PS The director of the MV is a huge Quentin Tarantino fan. So that may explain some of the angles/frame of reference and cadence of the film. And there are a lot of references from Kai's personal life in the imagery, and details in the MV.

I was waiting for this reaction! Your commentary is always so perceptive and insightful. Wishing you very well on this new chapter :) His newly released video, KAI FILM ROVER is worth a watch. (What they did with some of the songs is AMAZING) But it does spoil all of the album songs, so better to watch that after hearing it first. This song is a reinterpretation of an older original, Mr Rover by DARA.. But they wildly changed the meaning and switched the perspective. I found it very fun to compare the two (both versions are great for different reasons) :)
