the music video and lyrics just screams anxiety for me. The way the 'paranoia' was portrayed was not from a physical form, its almost like what is shown is representing what people with anxiety feel. A large fear based from only your mind. This could also be interpreted by many different mental illnesses too. especially the spike wall that goes on top of him, I resonated incredibly well with that (what my anxiety feel like personally). Also the woman whispering in his ear when he was just walking around and the man trying to attack him at the end when he was safely in his bed.

In my personal experience with kpop I've never heard a comeback song like this. It's so raw and personal not something you hear in a title track. Usually this type of song is saved as a b side track. And I 100% love that he made this a single.

2:21 the formation of him and the dancers forms an eye. So the creapy looking circus stage is also an eye shape. So he sings that even when he closes his eyes they live on the dark (you can't see anything with closed eyes). The dancers approach him in a creepy way like they are the paranoia. That red light flash in his right eye means something, as before in the mv you see the monster/demon depicted with that same red eye. I think it might mean that that demon doesn’t really exist, rather it’s himself that’s torturing him in the quiet moments, as in the final chorus he himself has that red eye flash.

Okay, the song is great (I agree with all your points on it). But choreo is amazing: it tells the whole story without needing lyrics or visual support. You can tell that he's being possessed by something, fighting it and then losing himself to it. Just great. And the backup dancers do an incredible job at being demonic minions haha I loved the production for the MV. This is just my thing. thank you for your review!! i always look forward to your thoughts on Daniel's work. When he goes "LALALA" in the song, he mentioned that that's the "dark" him and you can tell on live stages he switches from running from the demons to joining them. It's really awesome and the thought behind everything to do with this song and MV is absolutely incredible. He wrote this song about his mental health struggles he faced in 2019 and it's been so cathartic to see people realize and sympathize with him. His stages for this song are out of this world. I highly suggest watching his "THE SHOW" stage. Also the words on his arm say Failure and Ugly. A lot of these words were thrown at him in 2019 and really affected him. He is basically saying he knows about all the things his antis have said about him & using them in his art now.

Amazing review! Love the analysis of technical elements and color theory talk. Daniel wrote the lyrics when he was on hiatus from depression and anxiety in late 2019/early 2020. The words on his arms at the end are failure, ugly, fake, and loser. The Greek words on his forehead are "eyes are swords”. He recently performed on SBS TV The Show and the backdrop was decorated with malicious comments, as if showing he is above his inner demons. Here's what he said about the song: “The theme in itself is heavy and distant, but since I’m resolving feelings I’ve personally felt, I wanted to express them honestly. I believe this is a feeling everyone can relate to, there’s only a difference in the extent and the depth.” “I’m thankful that I can display the feelings I’ve felt through music. The reason I put focus on such a dark aspect is because the majority of people are reluctant to bring this up. I wanted to confess my inner concerns and communicate them.”

Thank you for your review and for the shout-out. I'm glad we didn't annoy you. Daniel wrote this song about his darkest times when he was fighting depression and anxiety/inner demons. You got it right that when he has the dark clothes and makeup he acts as the demon. Also Daniel sang the song like there are 2 people singing it. The lalalala is the demon laughing at him. There's a lot of eye imagery in the MV. The red set is an eye and at the end there's a phrase in Greek which says "eyes are swords". It shows the public attention and unnecessary opinions put pressure on him and hurt him. He actually did a music show performance for this song in a set decorated with hate comments. This comeback is so good and it's just a single. We're not ready for the album.

Daniel said that the choreography is like “Chuunibyou (Eight Grade Syndrome), he wanted it to be dark and brutal. Lyrics: “Don’t You” He covers his eye, because that’s where the darkness spreads, and he doesn’t want anyone to see it. Then when he grabs his jaw and moves his hand away, it’s him pulling it out, He’s looking at it thinking “why is my jaw out”? Then he grabs his heart and pulls it out, thinking “why is it here” and he throws it away. Then he grabs his throat and pulls that out too. Daniel explained this on Radio Star. The choreography is really artistically done.

The most interesting thing for me is the greek phrase he has written above his eyebrow at the end of the video. In Greek, it reads "Τα μάτια είναι σπαθί" which translates to "The eyes are like a sword". He encapsulated his view of the public and their idea about him and his situation in that phrase, whatever he did, does, and will do in the future are up to the public to interpret as they want, despite how he feels about it, despite his struggles, the way people look at you will always be razor-sharp, just like a sword. He is such a skillful artist, his talent is so vast and has such depth, it is actually commendable.
