This is very real. The first thing Ukrainians are doing with knocked out armor is dismounting the machine guns. I have seen videos of them removing the mount hardware on the side of the road. Ukrainians are mounting guns on the back of street vehicles to enable them to partake in hit and run attacks. The destroyed or knocked out armor is also extremely valuable, especially if the main gun works. They use military recovery vehicles and cranes to move and stack armor into their infantry defense fortifications. If the main gun works the vehicle is filled with sandbags and packed with sandbags on the outside, leaving access for the gun to be operated,

For those that don’t know . The belt fed shown is a pkt. It’s a coaxial mounted version of the pkm. It doesn’t have sights or a normal trigger. In the tank it’s fired by a electronic solenoid , but they have a back up tab that can be used to fire if the tank loses power etc. they are adding a pkm stock/grip that is tripping the the pkt sear. Normally the grip / trigger is under the gun not behind. Similar mods have been done to the pkt parts kits in America since they are more common then a pkm parts kit . There’s really only 4 main different parts . Barrel , top feed cover trigger group and rear trunion/stock Since ww1 people have been adapting tank mounted machine guns from captured tanks for soliders to use. Some models the machine guns are design to be taken out of the tank so the crew can use them if they need to ditch the tank.

When you have a great team, you stand a far better chance of winning. The key to a great team is trust, everyone working towards the same goals using their different but complementary skills. I think in the army they call it Mission Command.

What these mechanics are doing for their country is amazing. Even Mikhail Kalashnikov said that he wanted to use his engineering skills to build tractors rather than guns. Thankfully alot of these Ukrainian's mechanic skills are transferable to weapons design too.

lol it's so dumb to think Russians would fight face to face on the street, after close-loop blockading for a month, those machine guns would be using for looting food from civilians.

In WW2, the US Marines had a similar weapon, called a Stinger, .30 cal machine gun from an aircraft, BAR bipod and rear site with a shoulder stock from a M1 Garand using a remote trigger. Glory to the heroes! Glory to Ukraine!

Necessity, is the mother of invention. Well done the engineers. As a life-long engineer in UK, we have sadly let our engineering decline over the years, in favour of the arts, social sciences and media studies. Engineering is vital and should be encouraged in schools, instead of trying to get every child into university.
@jonfisher92142 жыл бұрын
Dave, the arts are vital in terms of training designers. Who can then work in partnership with engineers to create innovative solutions. I'm an art tutor and a technician so see both as equally important.
@davericketts91012 жыл бұрын
@@jonfisher9214 Fair point, with which I agree but does your school or college, have a metal working workshop, where young students can learn the very skills needed to turn those designs into hardware? My basic point is that, too much emphasis is placed, these days, on getting students into university, rather than a balance of university and `real world` apprenticeships.
