The Kyteman Orchestra - PaDaDe (The Jam Sessions)

This video was shot during our rehearsals for The Jam Sessions. The idea was to do an entire tour with nothing but a sign language and trust in each others musical capabilities. chords, melodies and interactions are all decided upon on the spot.

In 2012, the "The Kyteman Orchestra" was the best-of-the-year musical discovery to me. And not in a style I am used too. PaDaDe is now a tune I listen to almost everyday. It fills so many gaps, and it is truly "feel good"

I listened to and watched 2 other "The Jam Sessions" recordings before this one. I loved the groove and the layers and soundscape and how tight it is. And I am thinking why would you call these "Jam", they just sound so orchestrated. Then I read Colin's video description... Yes, the energy definitely makes up for everything! the man is like a live mutable frames for orchestral instruments... awesome performance. the only thing that gave me cognitive dissonance was the rapper talking about a problem, which i had not perceived until he started. but he was probably awestruck out of his flow-state. the beauty of improvisation

However much I'd love to, I don't see this happening for a while. After touring together for close to 10 years, we decided to work on our own projects for a while before considering any new projects. the upside is when that happens, we'll each have a bunch of new experience to bring to the table :)

Fun fact: Binkbeats has been a part of The Kyteman Orchestra from the very beginning. His studio is right here in our shared building, Kytopia, where he continues to work on his series. The keys are being played by Niels Broos, you might recognize his sound from Jameszoo, basically all key parts and harmonies there are his work. Niels and Bink have a lovely collab together as well.

was wondering how he does it as well. I'm guessing that his right hand indicates major (thumbs up) or minor (thumbs down) and his left hand indicates the chord. The C (1:05) and E (2:56) are quite well noticeable. He gave an interview on how the rhythms and tempos come alive. If I remember correctly all his bandmembers can start something if they feel like doing so. Then he takes over the controls and makes this kind of genius masterpieces as if it's nothing. The keychanging happens all in his mind, which is sick because he does not have any visual or physical references.
