That's what happens when you mortgage the future the way they did. Of course, it usually takes a bit longer for teams like them to collapse, but they've had some injuries and some bad luck. Doesn't look bad for Detroit having their next first round pick if LA is one of the 3 worst.

Yup I agree. This team went all in and eventfully it’s gonna catch up to you. And the Lions have the Rams picks like you mentioned so they have a very bright future

All true. This is the downside of the "all in" strategy, It's a short term strategy for a short term goal. But hey, we did finally get a Superbowl win for Los Angeles, and IN OUR OWN STADIUM. Well done, but the flip side is what we are living with now. Football is a young man's game, and when you rely on the star system, you take a risk. Now we need to get back to the basics of building a team from the ground up.

Trading JG was the beginning of the end for my team, yes they got a sb out of it but we are gonna have a losing season for the 1st time in the mcvay era and dont have the draft pick to show for it. Now Stafford has 1 foot into retirement a year later with 61 mil of the rams money.

The Rams were a propped up team last year... The NFL, LA market and Kronke basically bought and pushed for success in the LA market
@benmorrey
@benmorrey Жыл бұрын
I agree with some of that but the NFL is still a hard cap league. They can't "buy" anymore than any other NFL teams can. The Rams just happened to be great at constructing teams the past few years and they capitalized with a Super Bowl last season. I think it's all catching up to them now.

Injuries and bad decisions in the offseason were the biggest reason why Matt Stafford is till a good QB and although a lot of people are saying Goff is better than Stafford it doesn't really matter who was QB this year it still would have been the same result also I saw a video of why people shouldn't draft Allen Robinson in Fantasy bc he never has scored points although a player's fantasy performance shouldn't say how good or bad a player is it can definitely point you in some direction. As well as good/elite WRs will perform at a good level whoever the QB is

I certainly didn't think the fall off was going to happen this season but you're absolutely right. Team building in the way the Rams did so is extremely volatile and even if you succeed for a couple years, injuries and salary cap will make winning almost impossible long term.

Instability at O-Line, no run game, receivers with low football IQ --> struggling team. Just look at Tampa Bay, Green Bay (at least they have a good run game) or Denver.

I've been a Rams fan my whole life and I can tell you we've had a lot more losing Seasons than winning seasons. Becoming Super Bowl champions in 99 we lose it in 01 we go back in 18 lost that we come back this past season win the Super Bowl. Super Bowl defending Champions to this it's sad, shameful, and pathetic injuries are part of the game we've had horrible luck. But there's so many things that went wrong when we did not resign Robert Woods I knew we were going in the wrong direction. People don't realize how important Robert Woods was just like when Sean McVay first came Robert Woods was there when the Rams started to turn around into a winning culture. He was there when we transformed into a winning football team Alan Robinson is a bust it was a horrible signing I did not like the move. It's 50% on Robinson and also 50% on us the coaching staff it just not a good fit with the scheme Allen Robinson needs to go we need to cut bait. I don't care what we do I want him gone I don't care he get us only a six round pick get rid of him sign someone else who can fit the scheme. And could blend within this offense or draft a late round wide receiver who can fit within the scheme I don't care what you do just get him out. I was checked out when we lost to the 49ers after we had our bye week we had two weeks to prepare and we put up a pathetic performance like that. I knew the writing was on the wall after that It's sad there's not one thing not one thing that has positively went the Rams way this season. We have to have the worst record of a defending Super Bowl champion in history I do agree there's nowhere to go but up it doesn't get much lower than this. Being a Rams fan right now is embarrassing the only thing that we can take is that we are Super Bowl champions but other than that there's nothing. I look forward to seeing how we can improve and get better in the offseason.

Lots of good points and I appreciate your insight as a Rams fan. I am not a Rams fan so I'm sure you know more about their situation than me. Not re-signing Woods was also a head scratching move to me, and I did not like replacing him with Allen Robinson. I am a bears fan myself and I witnessed Robinson essentially mentally check out last year. He is still an okay player, but not nearly what he used to be. As the Rams fan let me ask you this- would you hang on to your core players like Ramsey, Stafford, Cupp, Donald (if he doesn't want to retire), the list goes on. Would you hang onto those guys and try to win another championship next year? Or brow it all up and start over? Curious to know your thoughts...

@@benmorrey Thank you I appreciate your comments and Cooper KUPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!! Is hands off he was a steal third round pick. The Rams have done a great job of picking Talent late in the draft the past few years and Cooper KUPPPPPPPPPPPP was the one when we drafted him I was stoked about the most. But I have to admit we've had a lot of head scratching draft picks lately we have missed on some of them. But back to Cooper Kupp i was so happy we got him because when I saw his highlights he reminded me of Julian Edelman I'm a huge fan of Cooper kupp. I have his number 18 jersey when he wore that number I don't have number 10 I'm working on that He's my favorite Ram. Back to answer your question I would definitely keep the core together although Ramsey has played horrible this year. He has been exposed by opposing wide receivers all season long I don't know what the hell he's doing. Maybe it's the defensive scheme by Raheem Morris who needs to go he's been an awful defensive coordinator look what happened against the Bucs playing 10 yards off opposing wide receivers. What the hell you think is going to happen it's pitch and catch all day like what Tom Brady did to us that made no sense. I would keep Aaron Donald he's our best player besides Cooper kupp in my opinion but if he retires then that's fine. Hopefully he comes back one more year and we can turn this around For Stafford I like Stafford with him you have to take the good with the bad. He can make any throw and we have seen when he's actually protected and have time to throw the ball he can pick apart any defense. Not to mention he has a cannon for an arm I just think he lost confidence this year because not only did he not trust Allen Robinson who's a bust. But our offensive line kept him on the turf but we have the worst offense line in all of football. I'll admit though I would love to have a quarterback like Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert , Justin Fields, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson. I feel other teams are set at quarterback for the next decade as for the Rams we have some concerns Matthew Stafford's not going to be playing much longer. Maybe for the next two or three years because he's up there in age and we don't have an established backup. We need to draft a stud at quarterback or try to get a phenomenal backup in free agency but definitely number one priority is the offensive line. Just like the Bengals did with their stud of a quarterback with Joe burrow they committed to the offensive line it was shaky at the beginning of the year but as you can see those Investments are starting to pay off. This is a random thought but whenever I play Madden I always have Marcus Mariota as my backup because he can run and beat you with his legs. He can throw it as well he's not the best thrower of the football but he's still a threat just so many holes in his team. But I look forward to seeing how we can bounce back from this pathetic showing of a season. I would love to have a Young quarterback who has a cannon for an arm and who can also run and get first downs like Lamar Jackson but you don't get quarterbacks like that very often you have to be extremely lucky. Sorry for extremely long answer I know it's a lot and I promise I will not be offended if you choose not read all of it. Because I know other people have things to do and they don't have time reading long responses.

@@TalkTopicscity29 Love the comment don't be sorry! I enjoy reading and talking ball all the time. I think you brought up a lot of interesting points. It sounds like you're in the middle in terms of going all in or rebuilding. It sounds like you want to retain the core players but also develop a younger team with your limited draft picks. Personally, I think that's a recipe for mediocrity. I believe it's either all in or all out. In other words, unless you believe you can win a Super Bowl, a team should always be rebuilding. In the Rams case, they have the talent but need to piece together backups and an offensive line. This team can still compete with Stafford next season, but if they decide to blow the whole thing up, I would not be the least bit surprised.

@@benmorrey Yeah I do agree with that I'm not trading Cooper kupp he's hands off no way Jalen Ramsey based on how horrible he's played I wouldn't be upset if we got rid of him. I'm all open to getting rid of Allen Robinson and I said that multiple times Cam Akers can go as well. The only players that's worth keeping on this team is Cooper KUPPPPPPPPPPPP!!! Stafford, and Donald I'm open to letting everyone else go to a different team. I hate the 49ers with a passion the only thing they'll make this season fun and give me the best revenge is that the 49ers don't make it to the Super Bowl. Now I know they just lost Jimmy Garoppolo I wish no injuries on anybody even players on the 49ers I'm not that kind of person. I wish him nothing but the best and speedy recovery and I hope that he comes back better than ever still hate them. But I don't want any injuries on anybody back to your question yes I'm open to trading everyone except Cooper kupp, Stafford, Donald, and Bobby Wagner also needs to be kept. Because he's been playing his ass off this whole year even though he's up in age Bobby Wagner is one of the best middle linebackers of all time. if Jimmy Garoppolo is a free agent I saw that the Rams were also interested in him I don't think that they'll make that play. But that might be a possibility just a thought I don't think it's going to happen and then there's also a lot of good free agent running backs. I would be stoked if we can get Josh Jacobs but I don't see the Raiders letting him go even though they have not extended him if they do that that would be extremely foolish and we snag him my goodness. We need to try to one of those free agent Running backs to replace cam Akers he needs to go as well.

Biggest issue from start of the year is their o line. Even when all backs and receivers were healthy they were awful and did not give Stafford, a non mobile QB, much time. Van Jefferson and A Rob are not good enough to be second options, so it basically was Kupp or bust. Going to be real interesting to see what they do in the offseason...

I mean, you say that like we wouldn't have been doing the same thing with Stafford? I get your a bit upset at how things are playing out and all but uh, yeah, it really aint got too much to do with who's at QB. Our offense is stacked and we have legit weapons on it. Goff was just lucky enough to get traded into a situation like that honestly. And we're about to give him Jameson Williams too 😂😆✌

F dem picks was a good strategy for the Rams and they won a Super Bowl using that model but we also have to accept its future ramifications. All that being said, let's not sue this as an opportunity to trash Stafford. He was always a well above average quarterback with the Lions and he was great last year with the Rams. I think his lack of success this season has more to do with this injury and surrounding cast.

While I think your assessment of Stafford may be a LITTLE too harsh, I do agree that he's a stat-mannequin. As a long-time Lions fan (yeah, I know - that's an oxymoron), I never understood the "Stafford is Superman" status for Detroit fans. The guy never won a single playoff game, even with one of the greatest receivers (Calvin Johnson) in NFL history. So many of his yardage and TD stats during his time in Detroit were after the games were well out of hand. Everyone called him the "Fourth Quarter King" in Detroit, because he had almost as many TD's in the 4th quarter as he did in quarters 1-3 combined. My question was always "if he is so good, why are they always behind in the 4th quarter?" He got his ring last year, on a team that was built to win - and I'm happy for him. But, after watching what Mayfield did the other night to the Raiders at the end of the game, I'll be SHOCKED if Stafford ever steps on the field again as a QB. In the meantime, the guy the Rams traded away is in the midst of an ACTUAL rebuilding in Detroit. They won't make the playoffs this year, but they could have EASILY been a playoff team with just a couple good breaks this season. I expect them to win 7 games this season, and make the playoffs next season. This Lions team reminds me a lot of the 1984 Detroit Tigers team - they are being BUILT, rather than purchased. Of course, as a Lions fan, I'm fully prepared to be let down - yet again. 50 years of let-downs does that to you.
