I remember our first time there opening for Twisted Sister. I was gave directions to the place on a matchbook. Got lost as hell coming from West "By God" Virginia. The club was awesome as well as the bartenders and staff. One of the doormen/bouncer saved my life that night. Think his name was Sy. He wore half a cow as a leather vest. Saw many shows there in the 80's. One of the few memories I have was seeing Motorhead and Lemmy came out before the show to play the Ms Pacman machine. People were crowding him and he was just cursing them out to back off so he could get a game in. It was hysterical. Was right up front on the stage for that one. Couldn't hear anything for a while after that one.

I'm only 35, but I lived a few blocks away from L'amour 's and went there all the time from 2001-2003 until it closed. Halford two nights in a row, Manowar, Immortal, Nightwish, Overkill a bunch of times, Amon Amarth, Behemoth, Deicide a few times, Cannibal Corpse a few times, Dying Fetus twice, Nevermore a few times, Children of Bodom, Morbid Angel, King Diamond, Symphony X a few times, Kreator, Destruction, Hate Eternal, Arch Enemy, Vader, The Crown, etc and when there wasnt a big band playing, there was a decent cover band playing and I usually knew a band in high school opening for any of these shows and tickets were always like $10 or $12 on average. I miss that place every day of my life. Best memories were from 2001-2003. Got to meet most bands outside. And my tattoo artist is right down the block.

I was there from 1988-2003. I was too young for the early years. I remember going to L’Amour on cold, frigid Saturday nights and couldn’t dress warm because it would look uncool. Then took the train back to Williamsburg where I lived. After I got married and moved to Coney Island area I went a few times with my husband and we saw Manowar (Warriors of the World era) and the club was so packed there was no oxygen. They let in too many people. I was scared for my life. I never went back after that.

I forget what band was playing but it was March or April of 1988 and New York Magazine was there snapping hundreds of pictures. I was 17 yrs old and was there with my boyfriend. Never in a million years did I think our picture would make it into the magazine, but they wrote their article around a picture of us! lol Ours was the only picture that they used, and they even cropped it using only my side of the picture in the front of the magazine where they list the articles! lol I had no idea until my friend saw the magazine at a dentist office. She saw the article while thumbing through, then brought it to school for me the next day :) I was also there when Vixen played. The drummer threw her drumstick and I watched in slow motion as it headed towards me. It hit me about a 1/2 inch away from my right eye! The drummer looked terrified. The drumstick fell on my boots and a gazillion people scrambled for it. Thank God it didn't get me in the eye! All in all, I used to love going there, and my big hair :)
