Im sure they are happy to have a job and make a few bucks,my father was in the oil business so i got to travel a lot when i was a kid and lived in some really strange places,one of the places i lived was South America,most factories down there are like this,safety is just not one of those things that people take seriously in those places and dying of cancer? well thats along ways away in their mind,little noxious fumes is not gonna hurt me and if you loose your eye from a flying piece of metal, well he was unlucky, thats how they see things. If you walked in there with a box of safety glasses,gloves and masks they would laugh so hard they would pass out,it would take quite a bit of training to get them to understand its for their own good, just the way it is in those places.

Are used to work in a steel fabricating shop like this. No heat in the winter, the building was always full of welding smoke here in Western Pennsylvania. I learned a lot about welding-steel fabrication, painting, grinding, drilling,machine operating, loading & unloading trucks,unions, alcoholics, chainsmokers, bean counters, coffee breaks, and working with people that hated their jobs.. we had so many benefits, that the next benefit for the next contract was going to be either free legal assistance, or free automobile insurance… The pay was good, the benefits were fantastic, but you never seen a more miserable group of zombies to work with. I got out of there and went to a lower paying job with less benefits, but the people were cheerful.. I learned a lot about a lot there and about life, and about how I didn’t wanna spend the next 40 years.. when I left that job for my next job with a large utility. That company I worked out that had 22 Union and eight nonunion employees, they packed up and moved all the equipment to Rocky Mount North Carolina where it’s a right to work state and no union.. but watching this video, remind me of when I first went into the workforce in a steel fabricating shop that specialized in making building skeleton frames and scaffolding that they made to order or they would rent it out. There were times I would sit at a machine like a drill press shown in this one where the guy was rounding off the corners on the steel bars, I would sit there for sometimes three months eight hours a day grinding the corners Off of 1” x 1” x 5” steel bars used in scaffolding to plug into square tubing much like the bed frame goes together.. I would have to pull down on the ancient drill press and a tool came down and ground to the corners off of these steel square bars one at a time. I could do for a minute, for months.. dark poorly lit, terrible air due to the welding smoke, cold in the winter, hot in the summer.. these guys appear to be in India or Pakistan, but the fabricating shop I worked in Western Pennsylvania was no different. Just as dark, just as dirty, the floor was just as cluttered.. but I’m glad I had that job for almost 3 years it was less than a mile from my home when I still lived at home because I learned a hell of a lot. Every job I had after that and the utility company was a piece of cake.. there is a big difference working for eight Silletti and working for a company that Hass to get the job done right now. working for a utility company, there’s no hurry… no deadline. As long as the power is going out to the customers, the cash is rolling in. You just have to make sure you keep the wheels turning. Big difference..

Yeah, that's nickel and chrome plating baths. The chrome in particular is extremely toxic and they are literally rinsing it with bare hands, skin stained by the chromic acid. And the chrome is badly rinsed off, the next kid drying them is covered in it too.

I was waiting for the wire wheel polishing guy to get a flying wire in the eye. I have spent a couple decades in equipment shops and buffing rust off of bolts for example, every time I used the wire wheel side of a bench grinder I could hear the wires that come loose hit my face shield.

Of the many thing in this video I saw any number of things that would give a safety inspector extreme heartburn the one that bothered me the most was the chrome plating area of this sweat shop factory. Plating metal uses any number of toxic and cancer causing substances and at the very least everyone working in that area should be wearing rubber gloves and rubber aprons along with eye protection of course

It's not possible even if you wanted to.. The best socket would split in half long before you can round a square driver off.

A 'days pay' for the men is probably around $9. For the kids, I'd guess $2. I had small crews of construction workers in northern Thailand - all of it outdoor work, and everyone enjoyed what they were doing, singing songs, long lunch breaks, etc. The going rate there was $9/day for men and $7 for women. I paid double.

At least a bit better than some shops-- the guys have shoes and the boss's sons have gloves. However the plating process is going to slowly kill them and poison the ground. And since the handles are not hardened they may act more like torque-limiting wrenches than anything else..

I thought that , maybe a couple of water pipe rails in parallel on a slight slope that would direct them to the next machine . Having said that I love these videos , they are very inventive repairing broken axles , engine blocks , gear teeth . Repairs we made back in the 1950's when being a tradesman meant more than selecting and fitting the correct replacement from a parts shelf .

Yeah, same here... Then I saw the kids working at the etchant and plating tanks. Liver failure by 40-45yrs old. There's probably a reason why most everyone in that shop was young. That said, kudos to them for doing menial and repetitive manual labor. I'm sure they take pride in what they do, as well as just having a job, which is probably huge in their country. Can't/won't take that away from them. But man... I'd love to send them a few boxes of safety glasses, heavy rubber and leather gloves and some respirators for the kids doing the plating!

The kid drilling has a twitch, and the kids running the electroplating process aren't wearing gloves. Tons of chemical exposure to undeveloped juvenile brains.

sorprende que con lo mas elemental produzcan herramientas en serie, los felicito, pero no puedo dejar pasar la incomodidad de los trabajadores, creo que con una minima inversion podria hacer mas comodo el trabajo, no comprendo el porque el no utilizar mesones y tarimas para evitar estar a nivel del suelo, y por ultimo, veo niños trabajando, comprendo la necesidad de trabajo pero creo que deberian estar estudiando, un abrazo

no se si es tanto problema ver niños trabajando, quizás es medio tiempo y estudian tambien, el problema es que están manipulando químicos sin respiradores y básicamente sin guantes en un lugar que probablemente no esta ventilado

i live in ireland and done this work as a kid welding tool making and im glad i done it,it gave me good experience in a lot of fields,i looked back at some of my friends and they were pure wasters and would not work in a fit and sit around all day drinking smoking and been evil SHAME ON THEM and may blessings of prosperity and long life fall upon these people working in this factory
