It's a great film in every way with a flawless cast a witty, really touching screenplay. Leslie Caron was wonderful in it - but so was everyone else! It's an ensemble piece. It's not dated at all, because this was exactly how things were back then, and that included the decisions the characters made. Avis Bunnage - fabulous as the land lady from hell. Cecily Courtnidge, the faded vaudevillian comic - so touching. At this time the Brits were making great films with controversial subject matter, Victim, Darling, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, the list goes on. Lovely to see Leslie Caron again.

Wow, she's amazing. First saw her in "Father Goose", where she and Cary Grant were absolutely brilliant together. Still quite fit and lovely!

Leslie Caron has finally confirmed what I suspect, Johnny the character Brock Peters played in the movie is actually a homosexual. I haven't read the book maybe it is more explicit in the original source but it is very ambiguous in the movie whether Johnny's hostility towards Jane over her relationship with Toby is because of Johnny's affection towards Jane or towards Toby.
