Thanks for your video! When putting the left sided 3 position piece in it helped to lower the foot rest just a bit. I had to watch your video twice, so a huge thanks!!

We were having trouble following other videos, mainly because the broken foot rests had the older grey part and we’d been given the black ones. We were afraid to exert the pressure required to put them on when it looked so easy in the videos. That included yours, but yours was so clear that we had more confidence, and then at the end you mentioned the new design being acceptable as a replacement and more robust. That was exactly what we needed to make it all happen. Also helpful was your comment that the party could be used on a one position foot rest, which two of our three broken ones were. I can’t tell you what a relief it is to have them all working again, not having to spend a thing on repairs or possibly replace the furniture, which would be difficult at the moment. Thank you so much!

That was a great video. I have had a Harbor Town (smaller La-Z-Boy) whose footrest has started to slip from position 3 into position 2 when reclined and it's aggravating.I found more details in your video than anywhere else. Thank You.

Massey Jones - If the entire chair is slipping down, it is not the 3-position footrest feature. That controls the footrest separately. La-z-boy also has a Ratcheting Recline feature on many chairs. That controls the entire pitch (recline angle) of the chair when it's fully reclined. 2 parts control this feature, a lever (Pawl) and a part with metal stairs (Pawl Rack) that the lever rides on. When either part (or both) are worn, the chair will slip down as you describe. I hope to get a video done on this subject sometime soon.

Thank you for posting this video. Lay Z Boy wanted me to either bring my chair to another city, or have me pay to have someone come out to my house. I knew it was the clips because I found one all chewed up under the chair. After emailing them a picture of the chair label, they haf the parts mailed to me for about 15 dollars. Dude, you must have some strong fingers because I really had to strain to bend them into position, but I got it, and am reclined in the first position right now!

i just looked at my moms & that big spring you slid over a bit at the end of the video thats attatched to that big hoseshoe bracket, well on the other end that bolt that holds the L bracket to the square tubing sheered the head off, thus i suppose while trying to recline or use the foot rest bent that horseshoe bracket pretty good to the point the L bracket wasnt even close to lining up with the hole in the tubing. so ive straightend the horseshoe bracket now everything lines up again i just have to drill the broken bolt out of the square tubing & replace it. so my question is what might cause the head of that bolt to sheer off? i might have a better understanding of why or what bound up to cause that once i get it back together, just thought maybe you have experienced that issue before, but your videos really helped me with the operation of the mechanisims Thanks 👍

@NevadaBoy - My best guess is that if the fastener head is not seated flush against the flange of the Toggle, the stresses generated by the spring may weaken the fastener at that spot so that it may eventually fail. But that's just a guess.

do you have any videos of the extendable footrests that came on some models where you could push out a few inches on the footrest in the highest position and it would move further out.
@reclinerrepairguy4155
@reclinerrepairguy4155 9 күн бұрын
@paulstevens3177 - No videos on that, sorry. Those extendable footrests have a small mechanism attached to each leg extender (scissor). The most common problem with them is the mounting screws that hold them in place on the footrest come loose. When that happens, the extenders can become hard to operate or stop locking out in the fully extended position. The fix is to remove the spring, tighten all the mounting screws & reattach the spring.

Great content! Recently, the foot rest of my lazyboy has become kind of clunky... It still locks properly in all three positions, but when closing, there seems to be a lot of friction with something and it makes the entire recliner jolt when closed... Any ideas? While I bought the recliner from an authorized dealer, it's an international one (in Israel) and technicians here are not necessarily the most reliable...

@Michael Richards - Some La-z-boy recliner styles have an extendable footrest. To see if yours does, put your feet against the inside edge (closest to the seat) of the extended footrest & push outward. If yours is not extendable, you can contact your La-z-boy dealer to see if they'll work with you to convert your Leg Extension scissors to the type with an extendable footrest.

@reclinerrepairguy4155
@reclinerrepairguy4155 4 жыл бұрын
@Ron Neu - If the chairs are new and you or your wife are having difficulties in operating them, you should report the problem to the dealer (seller). Your chairs should have full-warranty coverage for 1 year after purchase. No, there isn't any good way to convert these units to powered versions. But if the dealer can't offer any solutions to the difficulty you're having with operating your current recliners, you can request to upgrade to the powered units. I'm not suggesting that the dealer will agree to this solution, but it doesn't hurt to ask. And if such a swap / upgrade is approved, be sure and try out those recliners before buying for proper fit and function. Lean more ---> www.reclinerrepairguy.com/advice_tips.htm#buyright

Gerald Brown - The problem you describe may or may not be related to the 3-position locks. To find out, remove both locks and inspect them for wear (as shown in the video). If they are not gouged or broken, they are not causing the problem. As mentioned in the video, to order La-z-boy parts, contact your local La-z-boy dealer. They may (or may not) request your ID#s from your chair. If they do, see this page to learn how to find your ID tag ----> reclinerrepairguy.com/id_tag.htm

evidence7 - Yes, the 3-position locks are part of the reclining mechanism and should be covered by warranty, as long as you are the original owner of the chair. You'll need some ID#s from your chair (ACK & style #s), as well as your purchase or delivery date. La-z-boy requires this info for any warranty parts claim. See this webpage if you need help locating your ID tags & numbers ---reclinerrepairguy.com/id_tag.htm

I had to repair my 8 year old LazyBoy recliner 3 position footrest a second time the other day. But this time I am still having some issues with it not staying in it’s 3 positions. I was working fine for a day or so and yesterday it failed. I think I know what’s wrong with it. The scissors was a little bent when I first replaced the 3 position lock the other day. I did bend the scissors straight but also noticed the rear swing was bent also but could not get to it to straighten it because of the round swivel base. My question is how do I remove the round swivel base so I have easy access to the bottom of my lazyboy? On your video you don’t have a base so the access is simple. Thank you. FYI- yes I did replace the 3 position lock with the swivel base attached. It is not easy getting my arms inside trying to attach the lock. I think I need to get back in and try to straighten the rear swing. Thank you.
@reclinerrepairguy4155
@reclinerrepairguy4155 3 жыл бұрын
@david gunderman - There are access holes in the round base that allow you to remove the 4 bolts that attach it. You'll have to swivel the base around to line the holes up with each of the 4 bolts to remove them. Use a socket & ratchet with an extension to reach the bolts.

Trying to fix my elderly mom's chair. I think we need to replace the toggle attached to the tension spring. The toggle is completely bent and curved, and the screw/bushing (?) attaching it to the drive rod has sheered off. Looks like a pretty simple DIY, and I've found the toggle part. What kind of screws and bushings do I need to get to re-attach it back to the drive rod?
@reclinerrepairguy4155
@reclinerrepairguy4155 3 ай бұрын
@carol-mo2az - I generally order all my La-z-boy parts from the manufacturer. So, I can't tell you what size the fastener is that holds the Toggle Subassembly to the Drive Rod. I simply request it when I order the Toggle, along with whatever parts I need to do the repair. Tip: If the fastener is sheared off, it's likely going to be easier to replace the Drive Rod, rather than drilling out the shaft of the broken tempered steel fastener. With that in mind, you might want to oder a replacement Drive Rod as well.

I just received my recliner a Aston model. I have a problem that I don’t know if it is a problem actually. When in the second footrest position if I move to sudden or forcibly against the back it pops into position three. This is very annoying. Is this normal in that anytime you move the back back it will automatically pop the footrest to level three or is this an issue that needs to be fixed. I didn’t ever have this happen when I sat in the floor model before buying the chair. Any help would be appreciated
@reclinerrepairguy4155
@reclinerrepairguy4155 2 жыл бұрын
@Noel K - I recommend you report the issue to the dealer (seller). You should have full-coverage warranty protection, so it's their job to make sure you're chair is working properly. Having said that, since I can't inspect your chair or try it myself, I can't make any definitive recommendation. Could this issue be unique to that style chair? Perhaps. Could your body-type or the way you use the chair be a factor? Maybe. I can only speculate from here.

I have an old lazy boy recliner which a foot rest that gets locked in the up position. I recently turned the chair over and found that the three position clips were laying broken on the floor. Would this be the reason my foot rest won't go down? And with those pieces removed can the foot rest be used without those pieces if I don't use the three position feature? @Pam Smith - If the 3-Position Locks (clips) are completely removed, the chair will still work as long as no mechanism parts are damaged. The footrest will open fully & close. If it doesn't close, there's another problem with the mech. The clips give you 2 more positions in-between fully opened & closed. Without the clips you lose those additional positions.

@jjudijo - Do the visual inspection of the Leg Extension scissors, as shown in the video. If the scissors look good, remove the plastic parts & inspect -- as shown in the video. If the parts need to be replaced, order a new set. You can leave the old clips off the chair & use it while you're waiting on parts. The footrest will still open fully & close. But you'll lose the 2 in-between locking positions until new clips are reinstalled.

@reclinerrepairguy4155
@reclinerrepairguy4155 4 жыл бұрын
Murray Hicks - If the footrest itself is sagging, the footrest frame board may be broken. If the end of the mechanism scissors will not stay in the fully-open position, that can be due to a few different causes like: bent scissors, detached or bent Toggle Subassembly, etc. Have an experienced La-z-boy tech diagnose the problem for you.

Our la-z-boy couch has stopped fully reclining on one side. I can extend the footrest fine and it reclines a bit, but when you push back to fully recline, it doesn't recline any further. I think it's that way due to me bending something when pushing back without extending the footrest to recline and have my feet on the floor. Will have to flip it over to see if I can figure out what isn't working. It seemed to work for my wife who weighs half what I do, but it was still difficult. On her side, it reclines back just fine when the footrest is extended. Ours has the cup/handle on the outside of the armrest. Oddly, I snapped the handle off my side a month ago, which I replaced without much hassle. The chair had been getting more and more difficult to recline fully before I changed that out.

Also, there is a design flaw I've encountered with older La-z-boy reclining sofas that you should know about. It's not uncommon for 1 recliner to work fine, while the recliner on the opposite side is more difficult to open. The handle is noticeably harder to pull (and sometimes breaks), and the footrest does not want to fully extend when it is released. This is due to the location of the extension springs on the mechanisms. When the spring is on the handle side, the recliner usually works well. When the spring is on the opposite side, operation is problematic. About the only thing you can try to improve operation is to try a stronger spring on the problem side. But I don't believe La-z-boy offers such a replacement, so you're likely on your own as to finding one to try out. I don't know if new La-z-boy reclining sofas have this same issue. But if one side is more difficult to operate on new units as well, they may have the same problem.

I believe it's one of the delrin/plastic guide slots. One of them on my end is cracked. Our recliners use a clamshell handle on the outside of the armrest via a cable to extend the footrest. That part works fine. It's just the full recline once you've extended the footrest that is hard to do. It reclines some, like a first step for TV watching, then it should recline further for napping. [img]gmarquee98.x10host.com/myPics/98gmarquee/misc/2018-0701-LaZBoy-CrackedGuide.jpg I had my wife sit in it and recline while I laid under it with a light. That crack opens wide when reclined and the pin that slides in it settles in the dip of the crack. Then if you push hard, it hops out of the dip and reclines fully. I've searched using every keyword I can think of on google, but wasn't able to find anything to replace it. I sent lazboy an inquiry to see if I can get the part.

Bryan L - If they don't provide the plastic part separately, you'll have to replace the entire Leg Extension side assembly. If you go that route, be sure to order a set of 2 and replace both sides. Also, make sure any cross braces, etc. have no hairline cracks or other damage. You don't want to have to remove & rebuild the unit twice. ;)

I'll probably have to call them. At least while I was under there, I took a few clean photo's of the chassis and the tag that has all the model info on it. Looks like we've had the couch since 07/23/2012. Can't recall what it cost... we got leather which added $1k to the price if I remember right. I opted out of the powered version. That just seemed like your asking for problems down the line. I know things don't last forever, but if I can fix it and get more years out of it, I'd like to try at least. The leather is holding up great. Padding is a bit smashed where we sit, but otherwise, aside from my handle breaking (which I replaced) and this, it's held up ok.

MonstarMK3 - When the 3-position feature begins to fail, the footrest won't operate smoothly. It begins to get catch and get stuck during operation. Your problem sounds like something different. A couple of possibilities: Some newer La-z-boys have footrests that do not extend to a point where the footrest itself appears level. It will be pitched / tilted down slightly, even when it's extended to the fully open position. Another possibility is a problem with your ratcheting/reclining feature, which I've described below (see my reply to Massey Jones). Either way, have an experienced La-z-boy tech look at your chair to make a determination and find out if a repair is required.

The footrest in our 2017 style 010537 recliner won't stay up if leg weight is applied. If I lean back a little it keeps the footrest up. Might replacing the 3-pos locks resolve my problem, or could it be caused by something else?
@reclinerrepairguy4155
@reclinerrepairguy4155 Жыл бұрын
@Mike Cummins - The first step is to remove the back & turn over the bottom of the chair to observe operation while opening & closing the footrest. If you can't find anything that's bent, broken or damaged in any way, remove the 3-Position Locks. Next, reassemble the chair to try it out. (Keep in mind that you won't have the in-between positions, just the full-open one.) If the issue is resolved, the clips are bad. Order a new set & install. If the issue persists with the locks removed, you missed a problem with the mechanism during your inspection. Contact an experienced repair tech for help.

@S. W. - Yep, many dealers will play dumb (not just La-z-boy dealers) when it comes to replacement parts. That's because they don't want to help you. They just want to sell furniture. For them, sales & service is a thing of the past that they can't be bothered with. When you order parts through the manufacturer -- La-z-boy -- ID numbers & customer information is required, no matter how common the part(s) may be. If you need 4 sets of 3-Position Locks, they'll likely require an ID# for each set. However, if you are the original owner of those chairs, you should have warranty parts coverage on those parts & get them for free (at this time). If you're not the original owner, there are 2 options -- #1 Get a cost quote for the parts thru the manufacturer --or #2 Call around to other La-z-boy dealers to find one that has them in stock & will sell them to you.

These attach to the top of the handle & allow the user to use different grips & also can provide a bit of leverage that can help some users. When either part (or both) are worn, the chair will drop down as you describe. I'm still waiting on a chair with this problem to come into my shop so I can do a video on this repair as well.

@@reclinerrepairguy4155 I think I have just the one for you. We bought one second hand - but looks good as new. My 90-year-old mother has slept in lazy boy recliners for years. Her's was falling apart. We took this one to her in the facility she's living in. And unfortunately the foot rest will not stay up. Sounds like what you just described above. I guess I'll try to find out the cost of someone coming out to repair it. Thx for your video.

@Trevor Grasso - If parts that fit onto the Drive Rod are broken, they will have to be replaced. See the video series Drive Rod Replacement on the ReclinerRepairGuy.com website for more instruction on this topic.

@The kid California - La-z-boy parts can be ordered through the manufacturer or one of their dealers. Dealers should have the 3-Position Locks in stock.

I’m bummed out because my 2 brand new recliners have foot rests that don’t go past that middle position. I always want mine fully extended for the most part . It’s putting a strain on my back and feet because it won’t flip your all the way on either . They’re both the Morrison. One is powered with all the bells and whistles. Kne is manual. Once I sat in the fancy one for more than an hour, I hated it and my husband gracefully switched with me . I somehow didn’t notice that the fancy one has less of a luxurious, padded feel . And when you engage the lumbar , feels hard as a rock . So sad because we have to pay fees to take it back after 3 days and the store is 2 hours away .

@@reclinerrepairguy4155, Hey there ! Thanks so much for the reply! I didn’t expect one since the video was older . I did try them out . That’s the crazy part . We laid in the chairs for about an hour in the particular ones we bought. We spent 3-4 hours testing in store . The foot rest fully extended on mine at first, even when we got it home . But now it’s stuck at the 2/3 position and it causes my heels to burn after more than an hour in the chair. I spend good amounts of time in it in the evening after work . So I’d really like to fix that part . My husband went ahead and took the powered version because it hurt my back so much. So I’m in the manual one . The powered one is already getting wallowed out so fast . I was hoping to trade him back when my back healed . But I won’t be doing that without adding more stuffing somehow. I’m shocked how fast that one’s stuffing flattened out so fast . Thank you again 😊

@@littlebeebs1 - Ok, so this is a chair that did work properly when you tested it out. Hopefully you checked into getting it repaired, which is another option. You should have full warranty coverage with your purchase.

Is there a special tool to tighten the two plastic nuts holding the scissor mechanism?
@reclinerrepairguy4155
@reclinerrepairguy4155 5 жыл бұрын
TheBirdandEagle - No special tool required other than a torx driver or torx bit - T30. The Legrest Swing Bushing (plastic nut) that fastens the Legrest Subassembly (scissors) to the Rear Swing, is held in place with a Truss Head Screw (torx head). When the Bushing is properly seated into those 2 parts and held in place with the screw, there will be no slack or play. However, if the screw comes loose from the bushing for whatever reason, there will be play there. You'll need to completely remove the screw, reseat the bushing and reinstall the screw. If the screw will not tighten snug against the bushing when reinstalled, the bushing will have to be replaced.
