Japan gave us Godzilla. Korea gave us The Host. Now, Thailand is throwing their hat into the kaiju ring with the epic monster movie The Lake.
When a mysterious monster rises from the Mekong River and attacks Bueng Kan, it cuts people off from the outside world. Officials and people in the area, including Chinese scientists who accidentally came to conduct research in Thailand, must be mobilized to catch this monster before it’s too late.
Epic Pictures is an investor and global sales agent, excluding Asia but including Korea. A Thai-Chinese co-production, The Lake is a Hollywood Thailand film and produced by Watson Boy Homsangpradit. Patrick Ewald serves as executive producer.

Some People may dislike the idea of keeping it all hidden in the dark and the rain as this trailer suggests but I think it was a creative and smart move on their part. It can hide any poor or unfinished digital effects and ultimately make the film look better at the end of the day. Would love to see this if I get the chance.

Keep everything in veil so that you feel being stalk by the predator I know someone made a quote of it. But making you character don't show in few scenes makes the film more dreaded and scary

Yeah it's a good call. Specially that scene where it's walking on the streets, illuminated by the street lights. Fits the SEA aesthetic really well cos the streets at night in the provinces, even with streetlights, get stupidly dark. Much worse with rain.

@@brandonrice1124 Horror movies were basically the Superhero movies of the 80's. They were mass produced and all followed the same basic formula (final girl trope, horny teenagers trope, old man spouting ominous foreshadowing etc). Most people only remember the good and iconic ones like Friday the 13th, The Thing, Nightmare on Elm Street, and a handful of others. There's a reason Slashers are basically dead now. You only think they're mostly good because you only remembered the good films and not the hundreds of bad ones, and you were an easily scared kid. If you want good modern horror movies, look up "psychological thrillers".

Not a kaiju, kaiju is skyscraper or apartment sized monster. This one is more a house sized but yah, always interesting to see monster film, let's hope it won't be very disappointing

With the T-Rex in JP it was like this beast that viewed humans as food or what have you, yet in Godzilla it’s just this force that destroys everything in its path. Each has it uses but it definitely is more intimidating when the thing is actively trying to kill you

Very nice creature design (reminds me of the Rancor beast from RotJ and BoBF). Kudos for not using vomit inducing camera shake like in Cloverfield to "intensify the drama".

I'm not gonna lie, this actually looks really cool and I'm.definetly checking it out. I'm really interested how Thailand is gonna make their own Kaiju Monster movie. Because Hollywood gave their great monster movies like King Kong, Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Godzilla and of course Pacific Rim. So yeah this looks very promising and this movie has the same vibe. This movie looks a mixture of Jurassic Park and 1998 Godzilla movie. I know 1998 Godzilla movie is not great but I still have fun with that movie. It's a guilty pleasure movie of mine. But this one is more like the horror and serious version of that movie and it has that horror and suspense elements that was very absent from the newer Jurassic movies. So yeah this looks very promising.

This monster movie looks very good. I hope the subject will be taken seriously and there won't be any dumb humor where the characters are cracking jokes. I hope that the characters will be well written, that they will act with logic... Anyway, I hope it will be a good monster movie that doesn't make fun of the viewer's intelligence. Really good monster movies are pretty rare. Alien trilogy, Godzilla 1954, Jaws 1 & 2, The Relic (Peter Hyams), Shin Godzilla, The Host (Bong Joon Ho), Monsters (Gareth Edwards), The Blob, Starship troopers, A quiet Place 1 & 2, Predator 1 & 2, Rodan, Tremors, Deep rising, Rogue... There are others, but the majority of monster movies are pretty bad.
