Wonderful critique! I think the design is an overall success. My issue is more with the front of the vehicle: as it’s an electric vehicle, Lamborghini should have gone for a new front aesthetic without the faux intakes. And the two parallel folds on the bonnet are out of place. From the side, everything looks great. What I do notice is that the front overhang is a bit too prominent. Otherwise, a great job.

I did the same thing a few years ago. I put a lift kit on a 2007 Corolla and put spacers on the tires. I also added a stability bar and a roof rack. I appear to have been ahead of my time.

My take: It's a ski resort sort-of SUV for a fairly rich man's wife to use for shopping and ferrying kids around. It's not off-road badass enough for _serious_ trail driving, but it looks perfectly capable of handling dirt or gravel driveways and switchbacks in the snow. Maybe some millionaires who live on Marin County vineyards or in Santa Fe or Aspen will buy these when they get redesigned enough to be actual road vehicles with exterior rear-view mirrors and everything. It's very handsome. Its proportions and basic design concept are good enough to avoid being nerfed too much by overbusy, (apparently) non-functional or unnecessary scoops, intakes, extractors, vents and tacked-on flares. I think simplifying all that stuff off would improve its looks considerably--it's almost Seventies/Eighties Japanese in its somewhat overdone graphic complexity. Even if I were rich enough to easily afford one of these I don't think I would get one unless my wife thought it was just the bees knees. It looks too high to be a great GT and not high enough to be a truly competent 4X4 type vehicle. It's a compromise between those two missions that doesn't really appeal to me. I wish Lamborghini every good fortune with it, though. And for some reason I absolutely *_love_* the rims. They're like _that,_ ese! Like _that!_

I like this design far more than the Urus (TBH the first time I saw an Urus on the road it was at night and I thought it was a Hyundai). I even see some LM002. And as much as I despise the 'coupe SUV' look in general, as a Lamborghini this is a win.

Great vid, Frank. Always look forward to your analyses. It's good sign that I immediately recognized the Lanzador as a Lamborghini just from the thumbnail pic even before I read the title. The design as a whole is very cohesive front to rear, even the interior has the familiar 'stealth fighter' aesthetic - but executed in a manner that still remains fresh. I do agree that the front vents on a car such as this are probably superfluous, even if they are actually functional. I think the whole industry will have to go through the learning process of finding other means to apply brand design flourishes when vents do eventually become 'obsolete' for want of a better term.

IMHO, this car is a missed opportunity for Lamborghini. They could have freed themselves from the design restrictions imposed by the combustion engine and made something truly unique, but they settled for making something that is too reminiscent of other Lamborghinis and that even looks somewhat conservative compared to other models of the brand.
@tk80mufa5

Well it's a German owned Italian brand. So double conservative. Also it is not clear how well parent Volkswagen AG is going to survive the next years. We might never see this car going into production due to VAG splitting up/going bankrupt.

@chrisw554
@chrisw554 Жыл бұрын
I agree with all of your points here, great video!! My only complaint is the front end. The front overhang in length is similar to the proportions of a mid engined supercar. But when lifted to this crossover height, combined with the rear greenhouse being lifted for placement of a backseat, the entire proportions of the vehicle change to that of a front wheel drive crossover like a Kia or such. Becomes a bit nose heavy. Imho, the middle of the hood between those 2 out of place lines, that you described, should be attached to a very low steeply racked portion of a hood lid, creating an illusion of less mass in front of the wheels and a much larger contrast in height when dwarfed by the athletic bulges above the front wheels. That would set it off greatly and lessen the effects of a long front overhang on a high stanced vehicle such as this. Which would give Lamborghini an edge above every competitor without losing any edge and being saddled with a flat yet bloated hood profile. And as a driver it would create a more dynamic viewpoint from behind the wheel.

@ScreaminV10
@ScreaminV10 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video and analysis! Always interesting and fascinating to hear your thoughts on new designs! Hadn't seen the Lanzador before. A very cool car with clean lines. A minimum of fuss going on in the details. No side mirrors, no visible door handles, all body panel gaps are of minimum length and visibilty (eg. hood/fender). With such large wheels the wheelbase maybe looks a bit short in full side view. The front wheels could be slightly more forward, but on the other hand that could mess with the proportions and dynamics of the front. Anyway the pointy front looks shorter when not viewed directly from the side so it only sticks out at a certain angle. The A pillar actually seems to be of maybe a more average width, but it's been cleverly painted partly in black to make it lighter. There seems to be some active aerodynamics going on in the C pillars, no? (At 8:58 in the video) Longitudinal fins rising on either side of the rear window. I wonder what those will actually accomplish aerodynamically? Stabilize or direct air flow to some desired area?

Thank you so much for another analysis. Those I do love to bits and I'm always chuffed to experience another one. I can very much relate to all of your points made. Being onboard or not with these stereotypical today's aggressive designs is still at the judges but I do understand where they are coming from in the case of Lamborghini. Personally, I think it's quite far away from Ferruccio 's vision but they apparently want to build on an existing family resemblance... I just wished a return to a more clean, sane and joyful world of design instead of being in some kind of doomsday looking realm. However, as for the interior, I'm all for it immediately. Finally not some next giant centre screen. The design is well done and does very much add to a feel of control as you said. Thank you again for a great analysis 🙂

electric car battery can be used to lower emission a lot more by using that non recyclable battery stuff for non transport applications, because weight per energy is high and yoru not using the energy fo all that battery in a given moment... but you have to use energy to move it, causing exponentially worse effiency and lifetime reduction every time you linearly add more battery, even as you could divide the longveity harm across more battery cells to increase longevity ... no one talks about what batteyr size this is , for the same reason why the people who push this climate crisis talk are against the only reliable political dependence conflict neutralizing clean energy: nucelar. its also the type of people who wrote CAFE law, who obviously dont care about lowering emissions not having more sustainable rew resource management economy long term. weight worsens rate of tire wear dust which suppsoedly is part fo the estrogen mimicking endocrine disrupting microplastic "forever chemicals" problem that also is in soaps and food containers especially the less durable heated moistened situations. weight also worsens road wear damage requiring more repairs, supposedly at exponential rate while increasing weight linearly. and is much more dangerous in crash at least for people outside the car if not also the people inside (depending on if they managed to make the structure strong enough to deal with increased weight, increasing costs). maybe something like small balance of biofuel combustion and electric would be best, or just minimal electric to run more perfect air fuel temperature ratios in combustion, maybe hydrogen combustion , CNG propane etc. i would at least stay seemingly neutral on the topic while " merely suggesting" in favor for roughly all sides of debate at least in a very simple way, maybe just dont say anything about it , have people be able to present their ideas for all other kinds of people to consider all kinds of thinking , instead of overconfidently limiting spread of ideas on behalf of all people who will ever contribute to the topic through all time ... @@FrankStephensondesign

The only sense that I get from pretty much all Lamborghinis of the past decade, this one included, is simply this: "Playing it safe" -which to me is the antithesis of what Lamborghini heritage is about. They have been about splitting the waters, doing what nobody dared to do before. It's been a long time since they stood true to that dna in my opinion. SUV/Crossovers sell. Electric is the new thing. Here is what AI would spit out if you fed it those parameters. I see no design here, only reworking past elements into whatever shape is easiest to market. Lamborghini knows electric is divisive especially for their brand, so they bring it out with a car segment that is less provocative and less likely to spark outrage. To me, that is just another way of saying "we have no balls". I'm sorry, but that's all I get from modern Lamborghini.

I'm a vegan environmentalist with a physics background and I'm not convinced all these new electric cars are any more sustainable than older ICE vehicles. Basically due to 3 factors: mass, materials, and disposability. Heavy vehicles destroy roads, tyres, and various other components such as suspension. I think people are massively underestimating how drastic this increqse is going from a normal 1.5T vehicle to a typical 2.4T EV SUV that people are buying now. That 60% increase in mass doesn't result in a 60% increase in road wear, it's actually between 20 and 40x more damage. This is extremely worrying and the environmental damage caused by road contruction and repair is monumental. Combining this damage with the vast amounts of resoircrs required to make all these unnecessarily massive battery packs, and the fact that all these new vehnicles are the opposite to timeless, they are chinsy, screen filled, short term vehicles, typical owners will only have them a few years. I am still driving a 15 year old, small sporty car. It may use petrol but I am in no way convinced that moving to an EV would decrease my environmental impact. It all just feels like coorporate virtue signalling and greenwashing, what I want to see are tons of

It looks like a supercar on which gigantic wheels have been slapped on, resulting in this jacked-up look that the average buyer unfortunately seems to like. I was hoping for a refreshed, EV version of the good old Estoque concept, this is a take on the OTT Urus, ensuring the toxic message you're trying to carry to other road users is properly transmitted.

Not sure if I am too crazy about the design. Certain things work as a Lamborghini and in line with the other models in the current range but maybe it's cause I don't like SUVs in general all that much and having this design in combination with such a high ride height is throwing me off visually but I am sure they will have no problems selling them since many in this tax bracket are wanting something that is different. They may already have the Range or even a Aston DBX or any number of other high end traditional SUV but this is a bit more unique and right up their alley so to say.

Great analysis! It reminds me of the Brera from the side, mainly due to the window shape. I must admit, at first I did not recognize the value in it, but it grew on me. The Lamborghini identity is present in each detail and, unlike Ferrari, they have not changed their design language completely, they maintained their principles with some precise updates. The interior looks great, I only have two points regarding it though: - if it’s electric, why fit paddle shifters? - the steering wheel center proportion is somewhat strange, the ratio of Lamborghini logo : steering wheel center seems almost 1 to 1. Either reduce the logo or oversize the center. Finally, I am a purist, so electric cars as interesting as they get, I just hope they do not replace combustion engine cars completely in the future.

All great points, expertly conveyed. I have zero interest in SUVs but I see a lot of appeal in this, and even more than the supercars, this somehow really incarnates the bull on that badge. It's a toy, it's sporty enough, aggressive enough, even more aventurous than a supercar, looks like a real winner. And for me personally, this kind of fits something I had imagined before, but not exactly. I wonder if there will be cars in the future with a low profile and extended wheels like this one, but which allow the wheels to be retracted, so as to offer both off-road abilities and supercar-level abilities on the corners. The overall architecture could be similar to this, but the actual design would have to be quite different because I see no space for the wheels to retract to.

Another great tutorial video, Frank. That Lamborghini Lanzador concept is wonderful. I don't know why they didn't put the traditional Lamborghini pyramid lines on the hood though. The interior center console looks like it came out of a Spaceship. I really like the fact that they skipped the common touchscreen, which turns every car's interior into a Tesla. However, it is missing rear mirrors. So it looks like a person without ears. I never liked the no-rear-mirror look. And as for the A-pillar, it is not actually thin, most of it is just concealed behind the glass, with a little bit of metal showing. Above all, it looks like a combination of a few Lamborghinis. It has some Urus in it, a Sian taillight variant, and two Lamborghini concept cars fused into the design; the Estoque & the Asterion.

It's cool they did this. The car is a video game inspired. Off road warhog Halo, Oblivion Tom Cruise, Mass Effect lunar rover style of vehicle. The purpose is to sell a "lifestyle" of an active outdoors in luxury flavor. But it is no Tesla truck that's built for tough wear and tear, so even though it is a very fast and high performance beast, it can really be only taken out on a semi rough road like they showed preferably Arizona flats etc etc. The paint job after all the damage and possible glass chipping alone when used in practice could really be afforded by the very rich that also enjoy occasional trip into the wild with a taste of speed. Which is fine because it is after all a Lamborghini (very pricey commodity), but for the majority of consumers of this car, the lifestyle will be the selling point with many taking on a casual outdoors ride and of course the clout and the hype of something unique, very concept art, and futuristic that would be used in videos for marketing grab. It is indeed nice that something like this could be realized and sold as a viable vehicle in our lifetime regardless of it's success.

I see that as a proper shooting brake, as they should cross over. also is very youngist. probably something like this should be way cheaper.

great analysis MR FRANK. 👍🙂 I like the new design language of this LANZADOR. stunning exercice of stlyling and inspiration. i m not agree with the MASSIVE DIGITALISATION OF THE COCPIT because i have a new reference NOW. THE ULTIMATE STRADALE 33. this car is MADNESS. PURE LINES.....SIMPLE SHAPES.....NO USELESS GRAPHICS.....AND A LEGENDARY MODERNISED INTERIOR WITHOUT SCREENS INSIDE.........i love that car. by the way.....what do you thing about it MR FRANK ? MASSIVE THANKS AGAIN SIR 🖤

Frank, I loved this…thank you. Two questions - what do you think of the Lotus Electre? (Hasn’t this beaten Lamborghini to this segment ignoring Lotus was previously a track focused enthusiast brand). Secondly- could make a video the Revuelto?

You know, I shouldn't like this, but I actually do. It is the closest thing as possible to a factory SUV for enthusiasts. It's design actually reminds me of a road-going interpretation of the bespoke off road and desert racers, such as the factory Dakar rally entrants. Of course its biggest issue is the electric powertrain but other than that it is a really endearing thing, which is most unusual for me as I have very little interest in post-1980 Lamborghinis and negative interest in SUVs or EVs. If I had the money I would probably consider this, just so long as it came with proper knobbly tyres, replaced the passenger infotainment screen with a central FM Radio/CD player, oh, and came with a V12. Would be a proper off road scrambler.

Wondering what Frank's take on another new italian - the Alfa Romeo 33? Also, would be interesting to see his take on some of the EVs that have been innovating new designs around function like the Lucid Air. Also wondering what his take is on the Alfa 159 SW TI - best looking estate ever made imho.

With the discontinuation of the Audi TT I‘d love to see an analysis of the different generations, especially of the first one as it really departed from anything audi had at the time and really polarized opinions.

Most modern auto designs seems kinda phoned-in and soulless to me, but I don't mind this at all. I think Lamborghini had to walk a fine line between designing something futuristic while keeping it looking like a Lambo and I think they pulled it off pretty well. BTW I was sitting here watching this and mentioned to my wife that you designed her Fiat 500. She said thank you 🙂

Hey @FrankStephensondesign great video as always. One thing that I would love to hear your thoughts about is why "SUV" market has been exploding lately (let's say from 2010 onwards)? Why are people more inclined to buy bigger and bigger vehicles? Even smaller models of some manufacturers are getting bigger than before. What are your thoughts on this?
@FrankStephensondesign
@FrankStephensondesign Жыл бұрын
Great question peace. I figure it’s because families are looking for a car that can “do it all”, plus for women it gives them a safer feeling to be sitting higher up…better visibility.

@@FrankStephensondesign Thanks for your answer. What I find strange is that a lot of time these SUVs and Crossovers have less space for passengers, less trunk space and are overall less practical or family friendly than some hatchbacks. So in the end it feels like more of a power trip, being elevated and "protected" in bigger car. It's especially noticeable in American pick-up trucks. They don't offer that much larger trunks space, their visibility is horrendous and dangerous, not to mention how much gas they require. I don't have anything against SUVs, they absolutely have their place, but when you see brands like a Lamborghini create hybrid vehicles like this, that are neither sport super cars nor offroad vehicles I think it's a reflection of a society and how confused and scared we became of one another. This is something I would like you to explore in future videos, also the topic of AI and car design. Thank you again.
