"The Landlady" is one of Roald Dahl's spookiest short stories. I hope it gives you the same kind of creepy chills it gave me. This one is best enjoyed at the stroke of midnight, in complete darkness, while all alone...Thanks for listening!

*Shudder* Dahl had a way with the creepy stories as much as he did with the whimsical ones! And you, Geoff, read it to perfection. You’re outstanding! Literally! Like, you really stand out! This was a great choice, Geoff. You used the tone and timbre of your voice perfectly here to create a spooky atmosphere. This story is positively chilling - a perfect example of how a story doesn’t need to be gory or graphic to be scary and unsettling. Leaving a bit to the imagination of the listener/reader is one of the greatest tools a writer can use.

I'm listening contentedly, headphones keeping me immersed in the story. No distractions. Suddenly an uneasy feeling hits and I slide my feet back up under the blanket. By the end of it, my knees are to my chin and I'm looking at my door expecting to see a landlady who's off her rocker, hovering in my doorway.

SPOILERS: Weaver's fate was sealed by the end of the story. Bitter almonds, if anyone is wondering, is the flavor of Cyanide, a poison which she likely used to kill those other two guests. It tastes like bitter almonds because that's literally what gives bitter almonds their flavor. Weaver drank a whole cup of tea that the lady poisoned, so he's doomed even if he doesn't drink another cup. The lady mentioned those two dudes before him "still being here, on the third floor, together," even though she had said before "we have (the house) all to ourselves!" when Weaver first arrived. She killed the two other guys, and left their bodies where no one would see them, on the third floor. Weaver's likely joining them soon. She only had those two young men as guests because she only accepts people she want's to kill, and they have to be "just right" in her words. All the remarks about Weaver are her being happy she found someone she thought was "worthy" of being killed and taxidermized by her. Also, her taxidermy skills are apparently amazing, and she seems to have an obsession with pretty people/animals. She likely picked the young men based on how good they'd look as taxidermy. She mentioned one dude's clear skin, and another's teeth being less white than Weaver's. She was marveling at his teeth, because white teeth are something a taxidermist couldn't change, they'd have to luck out on having their "subject" have nice teeth in life. She was happy she got lucky and found someone to kill who had nice teeth, because she sees him as a taxidermy project, maybe the best one she's found yet. Of course, the reason those two guys were famous "in the papers" is because they were both disappearance cases, missing persons. Not missing anymore, of course, but only Weaver and the lady know that. Weaver's not going to be much help for that, though. That's all I noticed as of right now, if anyone has anything to add, feel free to mention them below.
