FAQ: Q: How do I articulate these sounds? A: I don’t know enough about articulatory phonetics beyond the common pulmonic consonants to describe what is happening with my uvula, velum, and larynx when I’m uttering these sounds. The unvoiced gurgle is something like a non-pulmonic uvular trill with closed glottis (at least in the egressive version), the glug similar to a tap. The gulp is probably some kind of ingressive velar click. And for the grumble, I articulate something similar to the velar nasal, only that I close my nasal cavity as well. --- Q: How long did I have to practice to get the sounds right? A: I’ve actually had the idea for this phonology for many years. So, I had a lot of practice. For the video, I first recorded the individual words with random sequences of sounds (adhering to the phonology of course) and then transcribed it. If I had come up with the words first and then tried to read them, it would not have been nearly so fluent. The greatest challenge were the three words whose stem meant ‘bee’, as they had to have the same radicals. For them, I first recorded one of them, transcribed it, removed the diacritics and recorded two more with different (random) sound variants. --- Q: Can I provide a document with more details on the grammar and/or a dictionary? A: Unfortunately, there isn’t really any material that I don’t already show in the video. All I sent Agma Schwa was a PDF with the six wordstems shown in the part “Performance” without diacritics and with their respective meaning shown in the part “Translation”. Everything in terms of grammar that goes more into detail than what I show in the video would be way too complicated to document anyways, because most of it is completely dependent on the wordstem. Gurgle is not learnable for a human being. But in the two other videos on my channel mentioned at 11:54, I go into more detail of certain grammatical aspects that work very similarly in Gurgle: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3PMh6V4dsxmiposi=NZhjHZpuLVuMA_cL kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKGznaacftFkqtksi=WgaG_z3Hq4u1rSzK As for a dictionary, I would generate the wordstems randomly anyways, so there would not really be a point. Sorry. (:

this reminds me of a submission to the first conlang circus. that submission used only the phonemes in the words "agma schwa", and of course the agma and the schwa. the reason i bring it up is because like this language, it had an insane over-the-top grammar and about six bajillion cases, but when the creator actually spoke the language it sounded like they had been speaking it since the day they were born. this monstrosity you have created here is similar in that regard; it makes sense that you found these sounds as a child, because that's basically the only logical explanation for why they sound so natural here. wonderful job. also this is unrelated but you have a pleasant voice
@linguleum

Thank you so much! Yes, it somehow comes very natural to me. The hardest part was to convert the sounds into a working phonology because I was used to simply string random sounds together like that. I don’t know enough about articulatory phonetics beyond the common pulmonic consonants to describe what is happening with my uvula, velum, and larynx when I’m uttering these sounds. Does this help? (:

These aliens look a lot like the Eridians from Project Hail Mary. (Radially symmetric body, slits on the top, three fingers, echolocation, food contains a lot of hard minerals). Did you ever read it by any chance? It's a very good book, I recommend. Not to spoil too much, but they have a very interesting language as well.

I didn’t know them. But yeah, the images on Google do look similar. It wasn’t exactly my priority to come up with a completely original design for the alien species. Thank you for the recommendation! ^^

@@linguleum This is like trying to explain a dirty joke to your grandparents. Not only does it feel embarrassing, but explaining the joke kills any humor it had. Why must you do this to me, lol. The joke is implying that a woman is busy performing fellatio on their partner, and therefore is unable to respond to Netflix's "Are you still watching?" pop-up. I was comparing the noises of Gurgle to those of such a sexual act. Har-har. Now if you excuse me, I must go and find a hole in the woods to bury myself in.
