@@Tobstarrilez -- Charlie the speaker is saying that he's in love with his friend Sam not BECAUSE Sam is a boy (like the myth that all gay men are attracted to ALL men), but that he's in love with Sam as a person and his best friend who JUST HAPPENS TO BE a boy. In other words, Sam's gender is irrelevant. Perhaps Charlie is bisexual.

OKAY BUT AT THE BEGINNING he says Sam's name and HIS BREATH just FALteRs and that HALF A SECOND conveys so much raw emotion. And then Charlie is talking about the library pin and his head just SNAPS up and, almost like a realization, he admits that he loves Sam and you can see that little swallow after he says it and yo can just FEEL the fear radiating off of him and he's so SCARED. And when he talks about Sam's parents getting divorced, his eyes are practically tearing up and his smile just FALLS. I have watched this freaking short film way too many times. It is amazing cinematography-wise and the story is so compelling and emotional. The acting is on point. The way all the aspects of the film come together is beautiful. I'm WAY too obsessed with this. I was in love with my best friend for 7 years and I never talked to her about it. I’m a bridesmaid at her wedding next month. I’m thankfully over it now, but I remember how painful those years were. When they’re your best friend, you fall so hard because there are no boundaries between you. And then you can’t not love them, no matter what you do. I’m hopeful for Charlie, but also from experience I know how these things tend to go. For anyone living through this now, I’m with you.

Beautiful film. Beautifully written. Beautifully acted. And so evocative. In 1982 i was in year 12 .... 6th form in those days. I was at an all boy's school in Melbourne and for 4 years i had been so in love with a fellow student. Same year level, same feelings ... everything just the same as this film ... except the language we were learning was German. His name was Mark. He was beautiful. And he wasn't gay ... though he was way ahead of his time. Last day for 6th formers, drinking champagne on the banks of the Yarra i told him. I told him how i adored him. How my heart melted everytime i had seen over the previous four years. He was so kind. So warm. So understanding. So ahead of the time in which we lived. The kindness of his beautiful brown eyes and warmness of his acceptance ... still fills my heart to this day. I saw him once more after that, the following year at the school fete. He smiled. We said 'Hi' and exchanged a few words. I have never seen him since, though very occassionaly over the years i've meet him in my dreams where sit and talk to each other. He was my first passion, my first love. I know nothing else about him or his life, however his initials remain forever emblazoned on my heart: M.R.H.

Thank you "The Voice Project" for your very kind reply! I did browse your website. I read all the interviews and dear Kim, allow me respectfully to correct you on one word - even if I am French and English is not my native language. You talk about your performance as a monologue. Monologue is definitely an understatement. What you have achieved is so much more impressive - it is a genuine soliloquy... Probably the most difficult theatrical exercise. Monologues are common, soliloquies are Shakespearean experiences... And that is definitely what makes your performance and writing skills so outstanding.

Without doubt, this is the most incredible short film I've ever seen. As a gay teenager just out of high school, it felt like my experiences externalised, and delivered in such a way as to leave me breathless throughout- I wish I could've seen The Language of Love when I felt exactly the same. What Kim was able to do with nine minutes rivals what a professional can deliver in two hours. Kim's brutal and unapologetic honesty in his performance make it clear that he'll go far.

"It's not 'cause he's a boy--he just happens to be one." Really appreciated this line. Succinctly encapsulates the way I feel about sexual and romantic orientation.

What is amazing to me is the ease that Kim Ho brings Charlie to life. I actually feel that a real person is talking to me and not an actor giving a speech.

This is by far the best and most accurate LGBT+ film I ever saw. Love it

This is fantastic. The isolation and the struggle to accept yourself, whether to act on those feelings and risk what people you love might think, the distraction while doing other things in life.... So true to life. (At least, it was for me.) I wish I could've seen this when I was in school, even college. I hope viewers will find and accept themselves and people they care about. Excellent short film and story..

There is an essence here -multifaceted- that requires no analysis nor corroboration. The honesty and purity of the thoughts and feelings going through Charlie's monologue are more than real, and erudite, such that no explanations are needed. Powerful in its simplicity, engaging and warm in its demeanor, this is a story of love that we can all relate to. Charlie also manages to highlight the emptiness, and inadequacy of words, howvwe spoken, that convey that emotion. It is difficult to chart

Why couldn't I have seen this when I was going through this stage about a year and a half ago. I kinda fell in-love with my best friend also, I couldn't actually tell him how I felt as we grew somewhat distant. Honestly this shares so many lights on the whole "Coming Out" and this clip kinda helps people understand... Sorry I'm a bit lost for words and well I don't usually comment on things but this actually hits home so much! Thank you so much, Id love to see more shorts/monologues again.

Thanks for this. We hope that the film has helped you, albeit in retrospect. We've put your comment up on our feedback page for the film, as we really comments on how the film has affected people. All the best from Sydney for 2015. (see: thelanguageoflovefilm.com/what-people-are-saying/)

This will always be so dear to my heart. I might not be in a position like Charlie's but it is so beautifully made I keep coming back to it.

Especially heartwarming and encouraging is the fact that this was so strongly supported by his school, his peers and by the Education Department.

This has to be one of the most beautiful short films I have ever seen. Words cannot express how much it means to me. Brought tears to my eyes and messed up my makeup, but it was worth it a thousand times over. Well. Done.
