The Languages in Russia 2: The Ket Language - Navajo's Siberian Cousin?

Professor Edward Vajda tells us about the Kets and their languages. The Ket people live in the middle of Siberia. Despite their isolation, their language might be related to some Native American languages such as Navajo.

you have to get approval from the government & from institutions. you also have to prove that a large number of people speak the language. this is why it is difficult to bring back a culture & language because you need the government's aproval. this is why indigenous peoples advocate for sovereignty so that they can do more than just make their own laws.

My theory goes: The nomadic Ket people are not originally from Siberia, but from Canada. Because they are practically the only Na Dene speakers from other peoples of those regions. Furthermore, the people and language are dwindling into extinction. Whereas, the Na dene speakers of Canada and American SW, thrive in population, language, and cultural traditions. I listened to the Ket Language, and as Navajo (one of 48 known Athabaskan dialects), I did not understand any words or sounds of the Ket people. Wheras, I can understand neighboring Apache dialects of American SW.

Our northern Dene or Denetah people are related to this isolated group of Dene. It is historically recorded that there were 6 or 7 tribes besides the Ket, who were exterminated by Kossack mercenaries payed by a Russian Czar. My Great Grandmother, spoke Athabaskan, she was Porcupine Caribou Gwichin/ Koyukon. She spoke Russian a dialect of Dene and English. She was named after Katherine the Great, one of the Czars. She livid in Old Crow, Canada. Indeed we had contact with Navajo and Apache, although our dialects are different. We can speak to Ket. We travelled back and forth from the Americas into Siberia, SouthEast Asia, Persia, Afghanistan. All points in between.

in the Navajo/Diné migration story, we came from the East & walked West. we passed the Mississippi & the Great Plains. many people is said to have joined the Navajo when they walked West. when they came to the Continental Divide in the US, many groups separated from the Navajo & went their own ways. 2 large groups also went North & South. the South was known as a place that will destroy you, so the group that went South were never seen again. the North is considered a place where the dead travel. our ceremonies do not work in the North because we need the stars & constellations. the Northern group was persuaded to return, but many refused & stayed. some peoples also kept going North, & they were never seen again. the Navajo eventually found Dinétah, or Navajo lands. a prophecy says that one day, our siblings from the North & South will return & all live in Dinétah. another prophecy also says that when all Diné langauges become extinct; when you hear the world say, "Navajo is no longer around," it will be a sign of the end of times. 4 horses will wander to the highest points around around the world, & they will call to each other, signaling the end of times.

@@davidrojas5319 yes. they are considered a sibling of the Navajo/Diné. all Na-Dene languages are considered siblings of the Navajo/Diné. Na-Dene up North are called: Diné'náhódlóonii. it has multiple translations. one of them being, "another Diné." Diné meaning Navajo.

You didn't " find " Navajo land your ancestors invaded other tribes with the Apache. You constantly raided villages n fought with Comanche and other tribes that had already inhabited those lands for thousands of years before. Conveniently the government gave you land because your ancestors helped the Spanish invade multiple villages. It all stopped once pueblo revolt happened, because the villages got tired of being Spanish slaves growing cotton & crops. ALL the pueblos joined forces n drove the Spanish out along with your ancestors out of the villages.

@@josesisyowma5242 actually, historians & archaeologists confirmed that there was no genocide in the Americas until the Europeans came. & those historians & archaeologists were white folks. 🤭🤭 i may also mention that the Navajo/Diné were nearly wiped out by surrounding tribes & settlers, & the New Mexico Supreme Court Justice confirmed that the Navajo were the most trafficked & enslaved people in the Southwest. Apaches, Pueblos, Hopis, & Utes all took part in it. historians also confirmed that the Pueblo revolt consisted of anyone who was enslaved by Spaniards, & Pueblos were the majority people who were enslaved. you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. maybe research European history because you clearly have no fucking idea. 😂😂

The tones, glottal stops, and vowel lengthening is similar to Dine bizaad or Navajo language BUt they do not sound any thing alike

Great video But what the professor said about the lack of similarity with other n. Asian languages is not true: the 4 tones of sul that professor demonstrated is exactly the same as modern mandarin which evolved from Manchurian court Chinese which has many Siberian characteristics

I know for a fact that the tribes of Navajos, Apaches, & the Sioux have no problem of learning German & Russian language somewhere we r connected & related & oh yes the Arapahos & others that related have no trouble ln learning the language of German & Russian language 👄🌷👍👍👍👍

@@MrMigueldelaO yes, I’m a Navajo & can confirm it is tonal & very difficult to learn. To my recollection, there are 7 tones. (I’m not fluent unfortunately- the mission’s literally beat it into my mom that it’s not proper and *actually a shameful* language to speak) … Mandarin uses 4 tones for comparison.

Pretty ridiculous to say that these languages, regardless that they're similar, are anything close to being the same and or related. You would need to provide more than just language to say theyre related, and there is absolutely nothing else but similarities in language, which you can also find with Asian languages, so it could be something brought in by Asia rather than a tribe in south west Turtle Island.

And then there's the hypothesis that Korean is related to Navajo and Hopi and even Cherokee. Arapaho and Sioux to Japanese and Nivkh and the other connections like Salish and Yurok to Ainu. The Navajos don’t speak “Navajo” .. they speak the Athabaskan language like the Apaches. When you refer to the language as “Na-Dene” .. you are essentially saying Apaches and Tlingit “speak Navajo.” I’m Apache and my language is NOT Navajo. Very disrespectful

@@salihagokova5948 Athabaskan isnt used by the natives for their languages, it was chosen by europeans to name the language family....lol Also Athebaskan is a version of a Cree name for Lake Athabasca (Moose Cree: Āðapāskāw '[where] there are reeds one after another'), in Canada. And Athabaskan is the European spelling of the word but the actual sound and spelling in native languages is Auapaskaw which means your Turkic hypothesis is wrong.....lol

@@teovu5557 The pronunciation of words and syllables has changed over the millennia. Languages, words and syllables can change in just a few centuries through cultural exchange. And you say it in english diction/elocution, this is wrong. The etymological origin and nativity of the word "Atha_baskan" derives from the Turkic Natives. ("Ata" = ancestor/forefather and "Baskan" = tribal chief/tribal leader). Take a look at yourself and your people. Your faces and phenotypes, as well as your languages, are similar never to those of the Navayos or other natives in Canada or the USA. Likewise, neither Russians nor Europeans have the same visual phenotype as Native Americans. The only folks and tribes that resemble the South and North american natives in terms of language and also show visual similarities are the Central Asian Turkic folks.

I think you misunderstood. Na-Dene is a language family that includes Navajo, Apache languages, and Tlingit. Vajda isn't saying they're the same language, he's instead saying that they're related.
