Jordan, fascinating look at a major milestone in past cinema history. I'm an Australian and have always loved the old Cinerama process. Never ever got to see movies on that huge wrap around screen. I own "How the West was Won" and "This Is Cinerama" on bluray. Would love to visit this theatre in the States. Was a huge fan of Debbie Reynolds. God Bless her - RIP.What a vivacious gorgeous woman she was, along with her daughter Carrie. Thanks for the upload! James.

Hope you can visit the Seattle Cinerama someday. It was opened as a Cinerama house in 1963 and has since been acquired and significantly upgraded (several times) by Paul Allen, one of the founders of Microsoft. Money well spent (!) - and they can still show films like How The West Was Won in original 3-strip on the huge louvered screen.

I remember going to this theatre back in the early 60's. I saw Mad World and How the West was Won. I was just a kid but I remember it very well. So glad you did this, nice to see it is still there!

Thanks Jordan I think it's due to my age too meds may help but the side effects can be a nuisance . That's typical of the doctor you may have to chase them up ; do you get sick pay in USA as we do after a week ?

i used to see movies there all the time in the 1970s and '80s. it looked so much more impressive when there was nothing around it but parking a lot. i drove by it the other day and almost missed it because it's dwarfed by all the other buildings. glad it's still there, though. good job, as always jordan!

There was a cinerama theater in Disneyland around 1961. No seats, everyone just stood. As I recall, it was a travel log as well as an advertisement for cinerama filming.

Account Account.. I remember that theater in Disneyland. An exhibit of China and the Great Wall of China as well as the Yangtze River. Really nice experience. Then they got rid of it and replaced it with something else like always. Just like they did with the Carousel of Progress exhibit in Disneyland.

I remember going to the Cinerama Dome to see Deliverance with Burt Reynolds and E.T. The extraterrestrial. Glad your hand situation is a thing of the past. I have Carpul tunnel on both hands. Have my moments but just do the arthritis strength Tylenol for when my arthritis kicks up over the rest of my body. Don’t want to touch Prescrption pain killers. Have had weird side effects myself. So for now over the counter pills will do. Blessings for you, Jah & your family always. Thanks for the fascinating vlogs that you do to keep us engaged with life. ❤️🙏🏻🐕‍🦺🌴🌻

Actually it opened at Grauman's (then Mann's) Chinese Theatre in Sensurround. It then moved across Hollywood Boulevard to the (then) Paramount, which is now Disney's Hollywood showcase, the El Capitan, also presented in Sensurround. I know this to be true because I was working at the Chinese when it opened. So far as I know, it never played at the Dome.

meds can really mess you up. For me Tylenol hated my liver. Every bump hit my body like a bus. On a side note Hitler kept his troops, ordinary housewives, etc on what was billed as a mild relaxant....crystal meth!...under another name,of course. I trust asprin only because so many native cultures brewed their own versions. Yes, I know it has side-effects but at least, non -addictive. huggs,silky

I've just been reading about the history of '2001 - A Space Odessy' and it said it was shot in Cinerama. I saw that film when it first opened and there were not 3 projectors even though it was a wide screen. Am I correct in thinking it was never filmed in Cinerama? Thank you !
@whhrms
@whhrms 6 жыл бұрын
Even though it was billed as a "Cinerama" film and had its first run in Cinerama theaters, 2001:ASO was filmed in flat Super Panavision (70mm) and special prints were made that counteracted the curvature of the Cinerama screen - sort of like anamorphic CinemaScope, but with far better resolution and sound. The Cinerama prints carried the end credit "In CINERAMA," the flat Super Panavision prints were identified as "In 70mm," and the 35mm print-downs carried no such identification at all. Another example of a "Cinerama" film that was originally "flat" and received a similar treatment is "It's a Mad, Mad ... World." Neither of these ever used the original 3-projector process, which I believe had been abandoned by that time as being too cumbersome and expensive.

@@whhrms More fun trivia in that 2001 also didn't premiere here at the Cinerama Dome but rather at the Warner Pacific Cinerama. It did play here in re-releases, however.

Mad mad mad world was shot on single camera 70 mm. They did away with the three camera setup very quickly. I believe only three or four films were done that way.

Only two narrative films, THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM and HOW THE WEST WAS WON, were shot in 3-strip Cinerama, along with all of the previously made travelogue documentaries.

It originally opened in 1963 with single projector 70mm Cinerama with IT'S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD, but in 2002 when the Arclight multiplex was built there was a 3-strip conversion done to play original 3-strip prints.

WINDJAMMER was the best Cinerama movie !
@whhrms
@whhrms 6 жыл бұрын
Windjammer wasn't a Cinerama movie. It was shot in a process called "Cinemiracle," which was similar to Cinerama in that it used 3 projectors, but different in that the left and right projectors pointed into mirrors which then reflected those images to the screen. There are websites that explain the different "widescreen" formats from back then, how they worked, and how they were different from each other.
