As someone who's recently entered the steam railroad restoration scene, the fact it's already this far down the road is phenomenal! Yes, it looks "bad" from the layperson's perspective, and hearing that they want to "cut off" the top section sounds scary and counterproductive, but there's no doubt in my mind that this project is making great headway! So glad to see that stuff is happening with it!
@5andshark12 сағат бұрын
Well, i'm sure they'll stick it back on top
@King-Kazma9 сағат бұрын
If they have to replace the structural elements that hold the top deck, you can’t do that while the top deck is in place.
@bostonrailfan24278 сағат бұрын
severing the welds that keep the top section on isn’t that bad, it just looks bad but it has to be done and will be redone the same way when put back…the real issues are the framework but given it’s just a skeleton on e you remove the two shells it isn’t that bad overall the worst is the chassis and engine as both are common and both are fine it saved a huge amount of time

@bostonrailfan24278 сағат бұрын
the fact that the chassis and engine are common and held up well is huge, the body might take time but thanks to probably being partly off-the-shelf and partly unique construction but done in a way that’s easy to replicate it’s not as hard to believe this won’t be back on the roads in time…

The problem of the Cityrama was that in sunny weather the heat inside got unbearable because all that glass made the bus act like a green house. Nowadays we have window coatings that reflect infra red. Will the new glass panes have that?

Story as old as time - they didn't bother rustproofing because they never thought the vehicle would be anything but disposable. Also, really speaks to me of just how gentle the sunlight must be in France that they could put people in a big mobile greenhouse like that.
@gymnasiast9011 сағат бұрын
It seems they really couldn’t, both the engine and passengers suffered from overheating. (This is touched upon in the first video about this bus.)
@notroll127911 сағат бұрын
Didn't Tim mention in his first video about the bus that some passengers found themselves air-fried on summer days? Talking about "making the bus better than new"... some solution of shades, improved ventilation or even a/c might add value (though complexity as well....).

Was thinking that wonderful bus looks like some of the wacky trains we used to pass on the velorail. Then ....aaaah. TIM what about doing aride on the velorail ? Our local one Corgnac sur l Isle, Thivers is splendid. Lots of bits of wood naile dto keep the lines roughly the same distance apart, a nice gentle pedal to the Station at the top, Ice Cream or drink, and whizz back down. If you are v Lucky, the track is now damp and it is ,,, Exhilarating, to say the least. Late Spring and summer but worth looking at. All the best Keith
