I agree, it was a positive change! I think it barely made a difference for most players, like you said. For example, the patch didnt turn any bagging tracks into frontrunning tracks. In my opinion, killing Waluigi and replacing him with Yoshi was a way bigger nerf to bagging. Yoshi runs faster and bags slower.

And one unspoken major flaw of Mank’s strat is, well, you’re also losing coins. And granted there are some tracks where it’s easy to get your coins up there’s also others where it’s hard to. It’s a pretty pointless strat tbh.

I feel like bagging gives mario kart an even more unique feel, driving backwards to win is unheard of and in my opinion is just outright hilarious. The update was probably good for balancing though and nintendo should not try to get rid of bagging as a whole

i am pretty middle ground in regards to casual vs competitive racing, and i do agree that the update was a good change, but not necessarily because frontrunning is all the game wants you to do: if a competitive player finds a feasible workaround for the bagging nerf, great! practice it as you can and put it to good use if you take the nerf as an opportunity to work on staying in the front as much as possible, great! practice perfecting some of the harsher turns and curves of tracks and put those skills to good use

If people want to be mad about bagging they should blame Nintendo for the item system they made, not the players. Overall the change made the game more interesting with more frontrunning, bag for 2 items then move on.

I think the hate for bagging is fully justified (although casual players still do not really understand how it works) but the bagging update fixed the main issue which was the strategy of everyone purposely wasting time until they get broken items was boring and against what a racing game is. Now you have to try harder to get those good items and its much more risky, while you could instead just frontrun and most likely get a decent spot unless things go truly wrong. There are still some tracks that feel like pre bagging nerfs but I feel like most tracks now you can bag if you choose to but you are not at a gigantic disadvantage if you do not. Even the most bag friendly tracks in this game are still winnable while frontrunning because of the bagging nerfs.
