I shook his hand when he visited 🇩🇰 Denmark. And the 12th of April is my birthday😊. First, I couldn't see him. There was a crowd and he was in the middle of it, but he was a small man and I was 12 years old but taller than him. He had a warm smile, and the military cap he was wearing was too big for his small head. It felt incredible afterwards I mean I actually shook hand with the first man who flew around the 🌎.

Film zupełnie pomija fakt, iż jako bohater i niezwykle popularny człowiek w ZSRR stał się problemem dla władz gdy krytykował nieprawidłowości w państwie i konieczność przeprowadzenia zmian. Zarówno w ZSRR jak i w jego pogrobowcu tylko martwi bohaterowie są bezpieczni dla systemu. Jakakolwiek ponadprzeciętność, popularność czy autorytet są poważnym zagrożeniem dla tegoż systemu i jego ludzi. Gagarin, pomimo iż był komunistą z przekonania i wyboru odznaczał się rzadką cechą w tamtych czasach: naiwnym przeświadczeniem, iż mówienie wprost, szczerze prawdy służy naprawie systemu i losu zwyczajnych ludzi w ZSRR. Był ideowym komunistą - marzycielem, a takich ten system bezwzględnie zwalczał już od czasów Lenina po dzień dzisiejszy.

Popovich is incorrect about von Braun being a secret. In the 50s he was on Walt Disney's show selling the idea of space flight and I'd venture to say that in the 60's he was one of the most famous men in the US. No one in the US was in ignorance about the German rocket scientists. Watch a TV show from that time, even comedies, and whenever they have a scientist involved with rockets they have a German accent. It was practically a meme. Also, Gagarin's accident sounds similar to that which killed the Gemini 9 crew of Elliot See & Charles Basset. It was a plane crashing in poor weather and poor visibility. The conditions were about identical to the ones described here: fog and a mixture of rain & snow. See, who was piloting the plane, also a trainer (a T-38), misjudged an approach because of poor visibility. Likely the conditions were the key contributing factor to Gagarin's crash.

A very haunting documentary. The Soviets could nor reveal the real cause of the wreck, so they doctored the investigation. Their society of secrecy and intrigue has not changed from the days of the Czars. I feel sorry for the Russian people to have to live in fear of a system that can not be fixed. When America lost it's space shuttles, at least they were open about the failures. As an American, my wish is one day the Russian people and both governments could find ways to improve relations and end the foolish cold war thinking.
