I think that you definitely made the right decision regarding Risey, Yvonne. He seems to still be enjoying a good quality of life without pain, and I think that is the most important thing. He enjoyed cruising the stables and interacting with horses and ponies.

It's age but also he's a dominant horse in the pecking order. One clarification: Risey isn't a 'full' adult in the sense that he's not fully grown yet. While he is an adult by namesake, he hasn't reached his full physical maturity yet. Adulthood in horses is often considered to be around 3-4 years old, mainly due to stud book and Olympic requirements, so it's just a thumb rule. His breed typically takes 6-8 years for their growth plates to close. He already have a mature mentality though.

In my own humble opinion, you did the right thing by not putting Risey and Glendy to sleep. Watching Rein and Teije saying goodbye to Glendy was heartbreaking, but the good news from the 2nd vet was such a relief! You show tremendous courage, editing and posting these videos of 👑Uniek's last days of life. Yfke is showing submissiveness to Risey. I don’t know much about horses’ gaits, but does Risey’s walk sound more normal? He’s also much more easy to manage and more docile now that he’s gelded. I’m so glad that Yvonne decided to give both Glenndy & Risey a chance. I’m also glad that Uniek was with Yvonne for the past years. She was well-cared for, loved & lived a great horse life filled with human and other horse friends, good food & trail ride adventures! And, at the end, she was provided with the most humane care. She was also honored at her cremation with memorial items. ❤❤❤

Every time I see a Foal chewing in front of an Older Horse, I still hear Yvonne's voice explaining to us (long, long ago) that the Foal is saying, "I'm just a baby. Don't hurt me." Risey seems to really like the "Little Horses"! - both the Friesian Foals and the Miniatures. This makes me think that if he can just recover from the Wobblers enough to be put out into the Pasture with the other Horses, he will make a great guardian and protector of the herd one day. In my mind, I can still see Sjors at Stal G, watching over the Mares with their Foals. I can easily picture Risey in this job, if he is limited in the other work Horses are generally expected to do. Hope springs eternal, you know. It looks like Risey and Bibi are practically in ❤Love❤!!! They remind me of Frieda & Johnny from Stal G. Did anyone else think of that? Or was it just me? On the "putting a Horse to sleep" thing: I understand that keeping a Horse is incredibly expensive. In the U.S., it can cost as much as $1600 a month (depending upon boarding costs - and according to Google). If you aren't able to get any "work" out of your horse, or train it for the purpose of selling it at a profit, it can be financially foolish to hang on to such a permanently injured or ill Horse. Nevertheless, I am of the opinion that as long as the Horse is eating and eliminating waste properly, and it seems happy and not in debilitating pain, one should leave it be. Why should its only worth be measured in the amount of work it can do, or the profit it might bring upon sale? If it is happy, and the family is enjoying it, leave it be. Of course, if the Horse is in unbearable pain and/or has an inoperable/incurable disease, it is inhumane to continue to allow its suffering, no matter what kind of emotional attachment you have to it. This is why I believe that Yvonne has made the correct decision with her Horses. Glendy & Risey seem to be "smiling" and happy as they walk around, not looking like they are bothered too much by pain. As long as they are like this, I'd hate to see them "put to sleep". Uniek, however, was a different thing altogether. Keeping her alive even one more minute when she was suffering in terrible pain from an untreatable ailment, especially for sentimental reasons, would just be cruel. Yvonne had no choice when it came to Uniek. We all have to go some time. This was simply the way that Uniek was destined to go. She was surrounded by people who loved her. She got the best medical attention available. She wasn't made to suffer for very long. Of course, we all grieve the loss of her in our lives, but at that time, letting her go was the best way we could show our love for her. Yvonne should NEVER second-guess herself when it comes to Uniek. 👁💙Friesian 🐎🐎🐎!

Beautifully articulated. I agree with every single thing you said. (We have 2 horses, a small 20 acre ranch & our 2 older horses cost us roughly $350 per month, total cost. This includes dewormer, grass hay, alfalfa, fly spray, supplements & everything to maintain their health & safety.). If you can keep them where you live, it isn’t as expensive as people often think. 👍🏼😉😊

@@texastornado5517 That's true about the financial cost. The range is quite wide. I used to sell Real Estate a long time ago. Back then, we were told that if someone was looking for property where they could keep a horse, we should recommend a minimum of 5 acres per animal. Of course, we were told that most of that land should be suitable for pasture, have a water source, and not include rocky areas or hilly "dips" where the horse could injure itself. I'm just curious. Would you agree with that, or no?

I agree :) So happy there's hope, that they don't seem in pain and can still have a good quality of life. I know Yvonne says she has bad luck with horses, but I think she's the best. Silly of course you did ! It is not world War 2 when everything was so dangerous and so many were starving. Why are we here but to help, Risey is a splendid animal. Vets learn things from 100, or 50 years ago! Modern doctors would agree he is doing well and is a magnificent animal, with thoughts and very much emotional. Wish you had time to read todays research! Vets don’t either. It is technology- that has improved greatly - that comes from Physicists research!

Am with you on that. I will always remember how Unique accepted and loved her 'new' foal. I revisit that vlog when I am not feeling great & the News makes things worse. Mankind could learn a great deal from such horses as Unique❤

I knew the day will come when she is not alive in daily videos, but it is still hard. Then it becomes a visible true also for all of us. As long as we saw her "majesty" Uniek...it made me possibly to pretend that I Will see her... because I didn't want it to end. I cried while Yvonne shared the sad news. But after I don't see her anymore...it becomes so true that she really is gone. And we don't want that. Gladly Yvonne has Belle. ❤
