Elrik thank you for sharing this video of Mang Romy. Even though I never had the chance to further my studies with my Romy. I am glad that we have this type of venue to talk about Tatang's Art.

I thoroughly enjoyed this insightful - interesting interview. Also, it was quite refreshing to hear Mang Romys thoughts, observations on current KI and the comparisons between 80s 90s KI versus today's KI, what's missing and applying the principles. I have a question, Is there a part two to this video?

There will be at least 2-3 more videos from that day. Give me about 10 days to edit the next one. Glad you enjoyed it.

Does he still teach? Would be a shame if no one else practices the artform after him.

There are a number of us who will do our best. He has two students who have been with him for decades JJ Hervas and Ray Floro. In Manila, Stephen Co Kehyeng is the next-generation archivist of Mang Romy's teachings. But that doesn't mean we match Mang Romy's standards which is that generation of men who fought with the sword. It may seem harsh or even outlandish - especially in a world where martial arts, techniques, and certificates are a commodity. Something is being preserved for the future - but as witnesses to the difference - we are trying to document and articulate that difference. FYI - these are my thoughts not Mang Romy's.

My teacher trained with him. I don’t think anyone is like him now. Not near his skill. Just watch his movements.

Is his archived system of KI the standard used by KI practitioners? Who is the recognized GM of KI?
@egjundis2 жыл бұрын
I would watch from 20:22 - What is the archived system of Kalis Ilustrisimo? to answer your question about the archived system. There are different lineages each with different pedagogies, training methods, techniques and drills. Some lineages use the title of GM. The book talks about how the different long-standing students of Tatang choose to support Tony Diego as the "official" head of the system. The Diego lineage of KI recognizes Tommy Dy in Canada as the current head of their lineage.
