Can you imagine the amount of kids that the Tricos captured and ''ate'' throughout history in people's eyes? Thousands upon thousands. The Valley became LEGEND, which means that thousands of years have passed and no one is even close to it, because of how dangerous it is. Remember how far Trico flew just to get the kid? That is probably the first sight of civilization near the valley, that is how far people is. I am actually surprised the humans didn't throw 5000 spears at him upon landing. In the human's eyes that would have been the most logical thing to do, to be honest.

poor trico in reality all of the other tricos were only trying to survive they have to collect humans to get food and that helmet might have also controlled them so in a way trico was the last guardian because he was the last one who protected humans so he is good hearted but he's doing the wrong thing for the right reason

My theory as to what happened in the prologue of 'The Last Guardian' is that the Tricos were once seen as guardians of the nest society, coexisting with humans symbioticly. The humans found a way to extract the force within the horns of the Tricos and so create the technology we see in the game (multipurpose mirror, cage altars, stone soldiers, the Master of the Valley, etc). To manage the Tricos, the nest society constructed the glass eyes to keep Tricos away from certain areas and navigate them easily across the city. The technology came at a cost of sacrifice to keep the technology young and alive. Once the 'Master of the Valley' was created, this mystical AI went against its creators, and thus controlling all the Tricos which in turn swallow the children to feed the mystical AI to keep it immortal, which in turn ate away the nest society. Once there were no humans, the Tricos began looking outwards for more humans to capture. Repeat this for an unknown amount of years and we get the present day of the game. The Tricos in the very end of the theory became viewed as man-eating beasts to those outside the nest, and so with the only one Trico in the game we know of and love, Trico is truly the last guardian.

I loved this game. Cried my eyes out and felt a lot of emotions. Only issues were a couple of game bugs where when you're signaling Trico, sometimes you're stuck running in place. Also Trico will have his blue horns intact, and sometimes he won't in weird/mixed up places. Other than that amazing game.

My guess is that the nest and the master are an old dying machine/system put in place by a long dead civilization that is just running automatically. The knights we see are all some sort of robot. I'm also going to guess that the Trico beasts were genetically engineered to fulfill some role in the nest and be susceptible to the master's control.

Basically, these creatures, (don't think they specified on what they were,) go around, flying into villages and swallowing people whole to encase them in the green gel. After they get out and fly off, back to the Valley, they place these gel incased humans into this statue, which, (SPOILERS) Turns them into the buckets we feed Trico, and we can see all the other creatures going apeshit over them at the end, so we know they love these things, hence why Trico goes nuts over them too. Well, Trico obviously doesn't get to the statue and vomits up the boy. That's all I got on why Trico went to the village in the first place, and have nothing on the black markings.

The tattoos are what end up on the skin of the children that they swallow, I'd assume it's just a natural thing that happens. Like how some leeches will leave patterns on your skin if left on for too long. The story is a bit hard to piece together but that's what makes it so intriguing. We know that the Trico do not just eat anyone, they eat chosen children. Chosen for what, we don't know. Maybe the Trico choose a friend and the weird contraption built to control them twisted their desires. Maybe it was originally well-intentioned. The fact that your own Trico is so friendly and desperately does what he can to protect you and see you home shows that they are not violent creatures by force.

What confuses me is, that celestial blob thing was clearly the thing controlling all of them, but we don't know how they came into being. What we do know is that the spirits of the kids are put into the empty suits of armor in order to work for this higher power, and that whenever the blob thing does that strange emission, it forcefully controls the Trico to do its bidding. I believe the reason why our very own Trico manages to retain his own sanity is because on the flight back, his horns were smashed and some of the armor broke off. This allowed the boy to recondition Trico to be more peaceful as he should have been (I believe the Trico are conditioned into doing the blob's bidding when their horns are in the process of growing). So when you start the game, Trico is in much more of a natural state - he is wary of you and in pain, and doesn't understand what is happening to him, but then he begins to find trust in the boy. We know his eye colors all mean different things. Green or normal means friendly, yellow means curious, and red means angry/tense. Trico's eyes become red while he is fighting, so it doesn't mean he is on a murderous rampage. By petting him, we are able to calm his nerves and his eyes revert back to normal. Somehow the blob was able to capture them (most likely by using the spirit armors) and use them to do its bidding in order to further expand its power (it's a cycle: the spirit armors capture Trico and help brainwash them, the brainwashed Trico go out to find chosen children, the chosen children become spirit armors). The only thing we don't know is why; what was the thing trying to accomplish?
