This short film was made for my university's final project. It tells a tale of a WWII Japanese soldier who refuses to surrender even after the war has ended but one day a man approaches him and from that day onwards his life changes forever. P.S. This short is a fictionalisation of a historical event

I don't get your point: The description refer to this student who went to search for him for fun only 30 years later. During these 30 years he has become a legend, i.e. it was well known that he was still to be found and his superiors knew in what island he was sent, so YES they should have done a research on him.

After his return to Japan, soon he immigrated to Brazil, the place where his older brother was running farm business, since he couldn't accept the post-war culture of Japan. Later he was awarded the Santos Dumont Medal of Merit by the government of Brazil. At the end of 1980's, he founded an incorporated foundation in order to educate children in urban area to become more familiar to forest, mountain and river by using his method of survival. Though Onoda was gone in 2014, the foundation is still on going. Edit: according to the tactics that he was educated, there would be another war even after the WW2 and he was told to stay there as a agent, and it was his mission. He's not a hero, he's not admired in Japan but considered as a tragedic person caused by the war. He was pardoned by the President Marcos, otherwise he could have killed by local people lives there who got their family member assaulted by Onoda and 3 of other soldiers.

Some IJA even ate the Marines/Sailors/Soldiers that they had killed. The IJA was a brutal, murdering horde that left a swath of death and destruction wherever it went. Dedication? To murder? Always faithful? To a totalitarian system that wanted to enslave everyone who wasn't Japanbese? Screw them all. Hope that they are all in Hell.

The first surrendered in 1950, the next shot dead in a firefight with locals in 1954 and the last was killed in 1972 by the Police in one of their raids. There actually were Japanese holdouts after Onoda gave up in 1974. Unconfirmed reports continued in the 1980s, who knows how many Japanese holdouts on remote pacific islands remained. Im pretty sure plenty are having Iraq/Afghanistan flashbacks. I served in the Army, never saw combat, but one of my best friends I met in the Army I basically had to cut contact with because of what a horrible human being his experiences in Afghanistan made him. We met in basic, really nice and practically impossible not to like. He was a combat engineer and after repeated deployments he became an insufferable, bitter asshat. We would talk on facebook while he was over there, before it completely got to him...he was a 2nd Lt. when he deployed the first time and resigned his commission as a Captain and company commander. I don't know where he is or what he is doing, I hope he turned it around, but I tried to be there for him, but I wasn't going to let him suck me into the abyss he was in. I am so thankful I was lucky enough to not be deployed over there. There's times I get hid hard with a sort of survivors guilt and have serious regret that I didn't. I could have easily volunteered to do so, but then I think, would I also have not been strong enough for that experience not to have destroyed who I am as a person?

A good soldier with undying loyalty to his country, would you not call that a "War Hero"? The deaths of the farmers were truly unfortunate being that they are my country men, but you have to understand that he was cut off from any form of communication from his command, thinking the fliers were propaganda. Also it's possible that the word they used for cameras was different back then. Japanese today uses A LOT of foreign loanwords (esp English) and "Ka-me-ra" might make no sense to him because his understanding of Japanese is from the 1940s

Well, this settles one important question. The best "survival rifle" is the Type 99 Arisaka. Glad i got one. Served him well in damp corrosive jungles for over 30 years. Try that with some of the plastic & aluminum things they call a rifles now. They even hard chromed the bores on that baby. Glad i got one.

You realize that plastic and aluminum don’t rust whereas steel does, right? And that wood swells and rots? There are reasons that materials have changed and it’s not solely due to cutting costs.

Don't blame him for war. He didn't start the war. He was just a soldier doing his duty being loyal to his country. And don't just blame Japan too. If you hate and blame Japan then blame Roman, Ottoman, Spain, Portugal, France, England, Germany, Monglia, Afghan, Russia, China as well as America. These countries or empire had too invaded other countries and killed many innocents.

I read the real story about this person. Even though Japan invaded China during WW2 you can't deny that they have probably the most hardcore and disciplined soldier in the entire world. If it was any other army they would have surrendered after a year or two but these Japanese soldiers kept fighting for more than 30 years and did not surrender until the Commander told them that they are relieved of their duties.

@@Eurotrash4367 Lmao dude it's just a fan film, I noticed he had a Luger but it would be believable as the Japanese probably used German equipment since they were allies. Not to mention the Chinese Nationalists used German Equipment so it would make sense that the Japanese probably confiscated and re-purposed their weapons when they invaded China.
