My father a current Stellantis employee has been there since 1975 through AMC, Renault, Chrysler, Daimler Chrysler, Cerberus, Fiat Chrysler, and now Stellantis. Plymouth Rd until it closed, then Auburn Hills. He speaks fondly of the AMC days, I will donate so he can see this when it is done.

I like your other videos . I grew up with rambler cars . My second car was a 64 rambler classic . I'm glad u interviewed mir Romney . I'm not in agreement with his politics but he would have a lot of information on American motors and his dad. I believe if George Romney would of stuck around American motors would still be in business. I got to say after watching your video on the 62 rambler classic a few years back , how comfortable the car is. I never forgot when I first rode in my brother's 62 rambler classic that it was one of the smoothest car I rode in to this day . I thought u would notice that in the video but u didn't.

A few months ago I bought my first car, a 1966 Rambler American (ik ik probably not a good choice for a first car). But ever since then I've done countless hours of research into AMC and have fallen in love with it, I know the rough timeline from the corporate merger of Hudson and Nash Kelvinator to when Chrysler bought AMC and Jeep, and that's why I am absolutely thrilled to see how this documentary comes out. You've made a new subscriber out of me, and I can't wait to see it.

AMC's where good cars, the problem was that when a person bought a Ford or a Chevrolet, when he or she went back to the dealer to trade it in, he or she would see a new body, a new dashboard, a new steering wheel and new seats. Not so with AMC. Please reply. Dave...
@That_AMC_Guy
@That_AMC_Guy Жыл бұрын
That phenomena of which you speak only really began in the 1970's. 1973 was the peak year for AMC. Right around that time, they began what would ultimately become the Pacer Project. This project sapped up pretty much every spare penny for R&D and the other car lines suffered because of it. The Hornet saw virtually no update from 1974 through 1977 and that was an eternity back then. The Gremlin did receive it's update in 1977 but was too little/too late. The Matador sedan, Matador coupe and of course Sportabout all suffered the same. A friend of mine who was around back then had a '73 Hornet hatchback. It was barely 2-years-old but he figured he'd better trade it in while it still had value. Of course, he went to check out the "new" 1975 models and found there was virtually no difference to his '73 model, except lower horsepower and more emissions controls. He wound up keeping his '73. But had AMC either not taken on the Pacer project OR had more capital to spread around for the other models.... things would have worked out much differently. One of AMC's major problems (at that time) was production space. Production (or, more appropriately - the lack of ) is what kept a lot of new models from entering production. The AMC Cowboy was going to be a mini-truck based off the Sportabout platform. It ran into two major problems - one was marketing identity but the second was production. The Kenosha plant ran three shifts and operated 24 hours a day and the best it could do was 375,000 cars annually. Years later after AMC had sunk millions into the Bramalea Plant in Ontario, Canada.... they finally had the production capacity to build 500,000 cars or more annually but by that point in time; their model lineup had shrunk to the point that nobody was buying.

Hey I hope that in this coming film you can get more information and a decent sized segment of coverage of the AM van... It was basically a minivan concept it was built on the Pacer platform and yet all these years these dumbasses have said that well they scrapped the Pacer because they couldn't build anything else on the platform I would like to put in a request that you try and get us some coverage on this because they really missed the boat and I'd like to know how they did it!!

Sorry you feel that way. His father George Romney was CEO of American Motors for almost a decade, and Mitt is one of the few family members still alive who knew his father. His interview provided us with information about his father's work that nobody else could have. Producing a documentary sometimes means interviewing people who are controversial or disliked, and we knew that going in. For the record, Mitt was not paid for his appearance and he did not pay us to be included. Perhaps you can skip his parts and still enjoy the rest of the documentary. There's going to be a lot of cool AMC history to see. Thanks for watching!
