The castle of Bebanburg is the castle that Uthred is the rightful heir to, his father is not a King but a Earl, England at that time was four Kingdoms. The last Kingdom is Wessex why and how it becomes the last Kingdom is a spoiler. As a aside Bamburgh castle is 10 miles along the coast from where I live in the UK, and your right its the north sea and it is very cold and windswept during the winter, the Castle sits on a Rock and is imposing as you walk along the beach. Thanks for taking the time to watch the last Kingdom, it is as close as you can get to what that period of history was like, but beware it can be very brutal.

Bamburgh castle is spectacular, it's one of my favourites :-) Glad to see you guys watching this series. Although I liked Vikings, I prefer this show, it shows the Angl-Saxons in a more positive and balanced light, were as in Vikings they often looked like weak fools. And, although it is a very dramatized version of history, it is probably more grounded in history. And this series gives a highly entertaining account of how England became a country out of minor small kingdoms.

Funny thing is, the HISTORICAL Uhtred of Bebbanburg actually lived several decades AFTER the events of this series. But at the same time, each episode begins with the line "I am Uhtred, son of Uhtred", so you could potentially interpret that to mean that this Uhtred on-screen is potentially the ancestor of the historical Uhtred.

I met Alexander Dreymon in Connecticut! (Uhtred). He spends time with his girlfriend, Alison Williams (Up, Megan), and her father Brian Williams (NBC Anchor). They live in New Canaan. They were all very nice, Alexander especially was very cordial and warm. He played "ring around the rosy" with my 4 year old son! After finishing the series and getting to meet him randomly was awesome!

This baptism scene is pretty accurate. The idea behind the ritual is not to be comfortable. It should be a struggle and then a new rebirth which is very well portrayed. Last kingdom is better than Vikings, certainly more historically accurate. You have 4 seasons that’ll have you on the edge of your seats ( 5th season starts timing in December). This a story with in a story, which will become apparent the further you delve into it. All the actors in this are awesome.

Boiling oil, as you mentionned it, was barely ever used, as it was wayyy to tedious to make and expensive. In sieges for example generally boiling water or boiled sand etc was used depending on what was plenty with few exceptions. Resp mayans using hornets in parts.

This is an old react, but so few Last Kingdom reactions.. for those who come later.. If you watched Vikings, this is about 10-15 years after Ragnar died. This Ragnar (Ragnar the Fearless) is not Ragnar Lodbrock/Lothbrock. According to the best legends and written history, after Ragnar Lodbrock was killed, his sons Ivar, Ubbe, and Halfdan brought a large alliance of clans to "England" referred to by Saxons as the "Great Heathen Army". They take over a large portion of "England" and that is where this begins. The Danes own the top 1/2- 2/3rds of "England", Halfdan is not in this show and Ivar has gone to Ireland. Ubbe is the son of Ragnar, the only one left in England.

So happy that you're watching this historical drama. I think you've got Wessex confused with Essex. If there is a Wessex accent, it's a farmers accent, which to you would sound like pirates. Back then, they would've spoke Old English (a Germanic language).
