In my opinion this is the best episode of The Last Kingdom so far. The acting, the writing, the directing, the suspense at the end... yes man!!! That scene alone, between Uhtred and Alfred, worth the whole season! I've seen it 3 times, and those 3 times tears came out of my eyes. David Dawson is, was and will be Alfred the Great for all of us! My deeply respects and admiration for his magnificent acting!

I love every minute of it! The conclusion to a the Uhltred & Alfred relationship has to be one of the best scenes of any series. It was everything you wanted it to be. It was an acknowledgement of Uhtred in a natural, emotional, heartfelt & subtle way by the “great king”. It’s a template for other writers on how to do it right, without being crass and un-necessarily melodramatic that insults the audience.

Best scene in the entire show by far. The closure between Uhtred and Alfred. Admitting that while so different and that they will never truly understand one another fully. Alfred is able to admit what he was so furious about earlier on. That he needed Uhtred and his reign was built off of the foundation of Uhtreds effort and deeds. Uhtred is able to finally to put some of the bitterness towards Alfred aside as well, seeing Alfred finally accept these truths and do the right thing in pardoning Uhtred. This was absolutely an amazing point in the series between two great characters relationship reaching its final stage. The build over 3 seasons to this moment was incredible in the payoff.

For real, she’s the one character where I’d constantly go “shut the ever loving fuck up”, she’s a fucking monkey. Spends half the day on her knees and the other half acting holier than everyone, while she’s basically done damn near nothing the entire show. Poor Alfred went out with her busting his balls, imagine being married to that and having to put up with it day in and day out.

I love how the scene between Uhtred and Alfred vindicates Ultred. Like the father always critical of you telling you he is proud of you. As for Alfred's wife, she has got to be the most maddening character of the show. Also wtf is the point of Aethelfled? She never once sticks up for Ultred after all he's done for her.

I almost love the fact the Alfred and Uhtred relationship had to go through so many ups and downs just to get to this scene. Just friggin amazing. And for Uhtred to starting tearing after hearing Alfred call him Lord of Bebbenburg was an amazing touch. David Dawson was simply brilliant. On equal level with Linus Roache as Ecbert from Vikings. Absolutely next level good actors. Can’t wait for ep 10. Freaking about Thrya tho………

Great reaction to a fantastic episode. Probably one of my favorites. I like Uhtred, and i like a lot of the other characters in this show, but as many have said, Alfred has definitely been the MVP of the show so far owing it mainly to the fantastic performance by Dawson. This first scene with Uhtred is probably among the best in this show. And his final words "My England, my love" always gets me teary eyed... and i'm not even English... Oh an he was not reaching for his wife. He was reaching for England as he was calling out to "her"

Tbh uhtred alone made Alfred, he was the single reason Wessex not only survived but thrived. Had ubba listened to uhtred, they would have conquered whole England. I know it's fiction but still.

I am laughing so much at your reactions because I had the exact same ones when I first watched. It's fun seeing someone watching the show for the first time. I agree, the writing is absolutely amazing, the way is story is woven but also the subtle humor. But also the acting is phenomenal. The actress portraying Alfred wide (Aelswith, I think) does such a good job at playing such a hateful yet vulnerable character. Beocca is also fantastic and has a beautiful sense of humor.
