Late to the game here, just began the TLK series. Cannot say enough how marvelous all of their performances are, this show is ADDICTIVE. Good on the cast, costumers, writers, hair stylists, 💄, the list goes on. Kinda heartbroken Season 5 is finale.

Love the series from season one to four. I don't believe it has had the marketing it definitely is worthy of. I don't usually watch this type of show, but truly loved each season and have watched it numerous times. I am a 49 year old married woman , and found the all the characters very talented and genuine. Love all of you, hope Netflix gives the fans another season. Thank all of you if they don't though. I have tried to put as many positive reviews that I can, because the series is deserving of it. Not for any particular actor , for the entire cast......and those behind the scenes.

uff waited 2 years, finished in 10 hours the day it aired , you are all so talented , Brida you are amazing and yes it hurt to see how much you has been betrayed. The ending with you both was exceptional , Edward is learning and growing , not easy to feel the shoes of the Alfred the great , seriously you guys are amazing actors , love the writers as well.

That was my question at 4:10 haha. First of all, thanks for asking it I was delighted with that. But yet again, having an Irish name proves its difficulties. It's pronounced "sur-sha" like the actress Saoirse Ronan. The "five e's" are just an add on to my Twitter handle in where I asked the question originally which now, looking back only adds to the confusion of its pronunciation. But forget that, my question got asked and that's the main thing. Woo! But I do love Millie trying to mouth back that cringe worthy attempt of my name to herself at 4:25 that was funny.

Toby is very loved in the fan base too since most people watched him on Reign another historical show he was on which was fairly popular and based on true story. He is also very likeable in real life, very chill, and friendly guy. Most of the cast in real life are friendly and humble if you follow them all on Instagram you will notice that.

I'm tired of Uthred not getting the reward he deserves. Season 4 was just full of hypocrisy that I can't believe the writers made us go through with it. After everything he has gone though, no rewards from Alred,Edward and Aethelflaed Alfred Despite Uthred fighting Alfred's like 37++ battles or something, he didn't give him anything other than his words, saying how sorry he was etc blah blah blah. He didn't honor Uthred in his chronicles (understandable because he's not Christian), but he didn't give him any reward at all to compensate his "mistakes" that he talked so much about during his "intimate moment" with Uthred; he didn't give Uthred a land deserving of his BEST warlord, OR an army to reclaim his ancestral homeland. Whatever he died, move on. Edward But I can't believe Edward did the same thing to Uthred, despite under his protection when his claim was being threatened and unstable after Alfred died. This caused Uthred to lose the battle in Bebbanburg and lost Father Beocca his father figure. Aethelflaed AFTER that, he went to save his lover + her daughter and the whole Kingdom of Mercia, gave up the crown and his lover (which would have given his men the reward + an army to march on Bebbanburg) because he knew Atheflead can serve Mercia better even though he knows he can bring peace in Mercia. Edward + Aethelflaed At the Battle of Winchester, Uthred once again risked his life to save Edward's sons like he had saved Aethelflaed's daughter. Walked into a potential slaughter, talk to Sigtryggr for a negotiation to stop the bloodshed and save Winchester. But for what? Not only wasn't Uthred invited into the negotiation, but Edward and Aethelflaed used Uthred's daughter as bargain, right after Uthred saved Aethelflaed's daughter from being a bargain, the fact that she even considered it makes me sick, regardless of the child wants to be bargained or not. The hypocrisy. Whatever, Stiorra wanted to go so I had no complains. Okay everything is settled, there is to be a truce between the Danes and the Saxons that is said to last for some time. Cool, all matters resolved. Let's talk about Uthred's reward for his sacrifice and shipping his daughter. What does he get? Edward casually walks up to him and "Hey bro is it cool if you look after my bastard son? You just need your sword right? K cool thanks bye." ?????????????????????????? The season ends with Uthred having nothing, Team Uthred having nothing (Finan, Silthric and Osferth) despite the fact they were very happy about Uthred being Lord of Mercia and then was denied that status/wealth immediately, having to be Edward's son babysitter just like how he SAVED and babysit Edward himself. Remember when Edward says Wessex will be in Uthred's debt once again before he offered himself to the danes? Don't get me started on Brida, how they destroyed that character. After this season I really hate the royal family, I despised Alfred but I liked Edward and Aetheflead from S1 - S3, hoping they would correct their father's mistake and bring justice/love to Uthred. But now they are dead to me. All in all I can't believe the writers make me go through this hypocrisy.

No happy ending for the real heroes! That was the biggest disappointment for me too. I know this is a series based on historical fact somewhat, or so I have read, but in reality there was no Uhtred in Alfred’s or Edward’s reign. Leastwise as we historically know, never mentioned in Alfred’s chronicles. So, the show writers could have done something for Uhtred and his men. Maybe in Season 5 they will be rewarded finally!

Unpopular opinion: I actually feel bad for Edward, because he made it abundantly clear in S3 that he didn't want the crown, and I don't think this actually changed (I still think he's not happy in the job but we all just adapt and try to make the best of it in this scenario). I mean, yeah sure, he stepped up when his father was dying and wanted to prove his worth. But I think he only did so because he was obligated to for the sake of his kingdom and the approval of his father. Can you imagine the alternatives? Aethelwold on the throne or a civil war, lol. Although I like Aelswith now, and I do respect her attempts for making amends in S4, I just feel that Edward was clearly still hurt by the fact that the woman he loved was sent to a nunnery behind his back and his son was wrenched from both of their arms as a result, just going by the conflict we can see in Edward's eyes when Aelswith first brought Aethelstan to him. In another life, I think he would rather bring up Aethelstan with his wife in the country somewhere instead of being King and married to a woman he didn't love who just schemes with her father. He also approached Uthred at the end of S4 in desperation because his mother was poisoned, he obviously cared about Aethelstan despite hardly knowing him and we all know that Aethelhelm would have sent men to the monasteries after him anyway, so he was in danger. I think he just asked Uthred to care for his son, knowing full well he was in danger. I think Edward's intention was for Uthred to ask for his sister's hand in marriage when he offered the title of 'Lord Protector' to Uthred. Honestly! I think if Edward, Uthred and Aethelflaed had just sat down and had a chat about all this together, there would have been far less misunderstandings. Lol I think Edward is a tragic character because despite his mistakes his heart is still in the right place as it's obvious he cares a great deal for his people, he seems to be misunderstood in the fandom as well. It's clear to me that he wants to fulfil his father's dream but the problem is, now that he's realised how self serving his only advisor was, it's like he's learnt too much from who Alfred was perceived to be, not how he actually was as we know him. I feel things would have been very different if Aelswith had just let Father Beocca and Uthred advise him, instead of Aethelhelm, just as it was Alfred's dying wish. So I think Edward has also made sacrifices for the sake of his own kingdom and the fulfilment of his father's dream, including his own humanity at times (though I kind of understood why he made those decisions sometimes). And after watching S5, he is easily one of the more interesting, layered characters of the entire series. Aethelflaed was also married off to an abusive husband at a young age, and she herself has served Mercia. It's implied in the series that Edward and Aethelflaed did work together to make their father's dream happen.
