Comedy shows like The Last Leg have been showing people how it's done for so long - showing people how it's not even that hard to be inclusive!
@RIXRADvidz3 жыл бұрын
They're totally ripping into each other but nobody is getting offended. THAT'S the Big Difference. You take offence, if someone intentionally hands it out, they're a dick. This is just good humoured banter. Loads of laughs for Everyone.
@MichaelJohnson-kq7qg3 жыл бұрын
George Carlin (of all people) explained why this kind of comedy works - no one here is punching down. No one here is scoring a cheap laugh at a group even less enfranchised than themselves, so it comes across as teasing rather than tormenting, and it's respectful, and it's funny.

There is a difference between being supportive and patronising. And it is a really fine line sometimes.
@DomWeasel2 жыл бұрын
And where that line is varies from person to person. Some people couldn't be happier saying 'No thank you' when asked if they need assistance because at least they were asked. Others feel insulted from the start.

Yes, we should be marketing towards disabled people and include them in marketing. It not only improves the mental health of younger disabled folks who see positive representation (and not inspirational porn) in advertising and know that they aren’t alone and there can be a place for them in society, but accessible products and services designed with the UD (universal design) standards benefit more than just disabled people. As someone who has dealt with the pink tax (items marketed towards those who identify or were assigned female at birth) and the purple tax (adaptive items and services for disabled people), the purple tax is worse. For all the economic activity disabled people generate, the cost of essential goods and services shouldn’t be out of reach of most disabled people.

We had a blind history teacher once. It was fascinating asking him about how he coped. A hell of a lot of it was timing and counting and then having strict rules at home like doors had to be wide open or fully closed. I remember asking him what he did when fried an egg.

You can't leave us hanging like that, friend - we need eggsplanations! ETA: I mostly learned to cook from a uni mate with vision impairment, NGL she was way better in the kitchen than me.

He has a great attitude towards his disability, he'll make joke about it but never in a way that you feel uncomfortable or bad for laughing. It's a fine line between being funny about it and just relying on sympathy laughs and he walks that line brilliantly.

this is great, i think as a disabled person myself that there needs to be more proactive action, sure you can light up a place or a computer screen or whatever purple but what are you going to do the make the workplace more accesable? what are you going to do to educate employers? these and other questions are very important to conisder i should say this is not me having a go at the last leg but at soceity as a whole on how it treats disabled people

Accessible trouser pockets for wheelchair users please.
@hannahk13063 жыл бұрын
Even for able bodied people - it's like fashion designers think we don't sit down (assuming the pocket is actually functionable in the first place).
@Charliefarley1702873 жыл бұрын
This is one of the reasons I started making my own trousers. I was sick of tiny pockets that I can’t get into when I’m in my wheelchair or mobility scooter. They need to be big and on the waist or thigh, not in the bend of the hip.

The ripping into each other like that, when you have acceptance of yourself as well as others, you can have this kind of fun, because NO ONE IS GETTING THEIR FEEWINGS HUWRT. We all know we're different, it's not a problem for us, it's a problem for you all because you think you're going to catch it. Apparently in the UK you can.
