If Mikey goes into a match dragging his ass around the Matt then the other person is basically obligated to start the match where mikey wants it . Mikey is really good at bjj but he only utilizes the ground aspect. No takedowns no standing game. Idk if his standing game is super weak or he doesn’t think he needs to use it 🤷‍♂️. How the rules are at high level he can just sit on his back as long he defends he wins…makes it boring to watch when all he has to do is lay down and block your attempts. Like mighty said they should HAVE to stand up if it’s a clean break. Like ufc. It’s more well rounded and fair to everyone. If he wanted he can let the guy take him down for a loss of points just so he is laying down where he wants to be

Mikey’s game is obviously extremely effective - personally I don’t like his style at all though.. he’s basically ignoring a big part, the top game, of jj. Furthermore it’s not a fan friendly way of “fighting”. Air quotes because his style works for a particular rule set.. this has very little to do with actual fighting. I feel like the modern style of the rutolo brothers is way more entertaining and just as effective. Their stuff would actually work in mma as well - Mikey would be absolutely screwed because he’d get hammered with ground and pound. Anyways his success speaks for himself - just not my cup of tea. I’d love the rule set to punish but scooting a lot more - this would make bjj more entertaining and open it up to the masses and benefit bjj in the long run - just my opinion 🤷‍♂️

Pulling guard is a disadvantage. You should direct your frustration at his opponents who can’t exploit their top position advantage. Plenty of rule sets punish guard pulling more if you cared to watch. If the goal is to submit your opponent there isn’t really a reason to be mad at guard pullers if you understand what you’re watching

brazilian jiu jitsu match is about assessing who's the better ground grappler and judo/wrestling match standing grappling (both arts were once one ),, ibjjf stays in the niche of ground work as casuals will eventually figure they can simply watch judo if take downs and quick subs are what they want. the ruleset changes your suggesting favours judo (get a take down stand up. the person has to chase and gets taken down again) in a jiu jitsu match. even if its mixed adcc rules 99.9% submissions happen on the ground so passing must be forced .... adcc is the closest thing you can get to mixing judo,jiu jitsu and wrestling. while trying to keep some balance + entertainment

The problem with forcing the grapplers to stand back up is it just becomes takedowns and takedown defense because what is stopping a grappler from disengaging after a takedown and forcing them to stand back up. It would turn no gi jiu jitsu into wrestling.

Just like how this is a submission only ruleset and with points Gabriel could get that takedown then just stall and have a very borijg match to win. Its a bit more complicated than that. Also passing to north south doesnt give u any points in any organization gi and nogi so Sousa wouldn't have gotten any points regardless of the rules
