"No, I was _not_ ready, thanks for asking." When I saw the thumbnail I knew the bass drop was going to get you. "I do feel like it's missing just a bit of sinisterness." Contrast. They have plenty once hands shake and the deal is sealed, so having him come across more friendly is appropriate. The man is in sales, he wants his "clients" to feel comfortable and not like lambs being led to slaughter. To be clear, I might have a different perspective because I know what's coming and Mortius at this point doesn't.

As a few others commentd, I think the friendly approach to Lawrence fits. Watch the body language, facial expression and even the seating. Especially since it seemed toned down for Eli's character. He seemed to have reservations about the whole thing - he spins around the table, while Cesar just plunks himself down. He even looks nervous when he picks up the card. Lawrence looked as if he needed to be cajoled. Cesar, with the recklessness of youth and privilege is ready to jump (haha🐸) in and J sounds more menacing. Cesar faces J most of the time, but Eli faces us and at times turns his head away. I am more of a visual learner. I sometimes have trouble processing things auditorily (is that a word?), so I pick up more cues from what I see. It is probably one of the reasons I prefer VP -usually a lot to see. (Did you notice that when J says "hoodoo" the sacrificial 🐔 is HeiHei from Moana?) Than you for not only pointing out the complexity of the "6" words in the "green I see" section, but singing it. I would not have understood your comment without it. I "really" learn a lot from you and I find myself listening not only more carefully, but trying to catch some of those moments on my own.

Personally I actually liked the change that one line it seemed to fit more to me he's trying to come off at the nice friendly helpful person he doesn't want to scare them before he has sealed the deal. Then the second it is sealed they get to see the real Doctor Facilier. By that time it's too late and there's no going back.

I like the lack of sinister. Makes the sudden shift in tone and direction feel that much more, well, sudden. Plays up the feeling of "oh, he's just a charlatan" but then once it is too late, you see the real face underneath.

6:52 Geoff didn't make a deal with the Devil. The Devil made a deal with Geoff. "I'll take an octave of your bass voice and make you a natural baritone, since everyone thinks the Devil should speak low, but in return I'll give you an extra octave in the tenor range." Geoff agreed, and then trained his voice to go down lower and taught himself subharmonics. Because Geoff is too talented for even the Devil to hold him back. (That's my "deal with the Devil" theory, at least.)
@Tryst463 жыл бұрын
Personally, I like the change from sinister to to an almost playful, "In your future, for you I see, exactly the man you always wanted to be." In reality a sinister approach toward a man like that would ring alarm bells, a playful and light hearted approach would work better. The guy needs cheering up, he's been pushed around by, what he considers, bad people all his life. A sinister aproach would be what he's expecting from someone who's about to push him around some more. The cheery approach is appealing to his bruised ego, almost as if offering payback and sending the happy vibes that he would feel from that payback. A real con man would know that ;) I think the character shift in that respect is more realistic for someone selling something, despite knowing that their acceptance will come back to bite them.
@alexisgrunden15562 жыл бұрын
Sometimes emotionally abused people have been hurt and stepped on for so long, that when someone treats them with kindness and respect, they have no idea what do do what that or how to react. It's completely foreign and incomprehensible to their experience 😔 So sometimes, they actually respond best to the _negative_ pushing, at least until they've gotten some good therapy under their belts. You see it a lot in kids from really broken homes, whose parents fought and/or were really toxic to each other; if they manage to get into a healthy relationship, a lot of times they flounder, because they have no idea how to proceed. It's totally outside of the patterns their little duckling child brains imprinted. 😞

During the rapping part, I was wondering how they would do it. I loved the fact that they made the chords very take 6esque, whether or not that was intentional. When the beat drops, it took me several listens to figure out what they did because it sounds Geoff ends up hitting that low note more quickly than would be humanly possible. I think Layne it making his beat go on the off notes to give it that sound, and then goes on to do his own thing after Geoff cuts off. Such a cool arrangement there.

An amazing reaction, Mortius... I loved it, and how absolutely blown away by it you were XD Oh, it was a complete blast! Yeah, the job they did with this song was... just completely amazing. My whole family was blown away by it. One of the things that I loved about it is the fact that he actually follows a lot of the choreography of the original scene. The little leg dance he does toward the start, fluffing out his coat tails as he sits down, the crossed arms, the mask, the little head wave from side to side, and dat ending! They didn't precisely replicate it, but they didn't need to, and they really did it justice through and through. And heck, I was blown away by that techno bass drop at the handshake, myself. It works so well for it.

Looks like you never got a reply, and may have figured all this out in the intervening months... :) Layne (bone through his nose) is the resident human percussionist (beatboxer). Geoff, you already know. J. None (Dr. Facilier, main singer character here) is a former VoicePlay singer who left recently to join the Navy as a singer. Eli (pronounced L-EE; playing Lawrence the little man) is a wildly talented baritone with lungs that I think extend to his knees. Go watch This is Halloween for a good example of his lung capacity), and Cesar (the one in the newsboy cap) is the newest member of VoicePlay and is a tenor. They are still looking for another tenor to add to the group, as they've had two members leave in the last year, but in the meantime, they do a lot with guest artists.

OK, just finished watching, and I must say I'm impressed. I'm getting commentary on this performance that just doesn't exist on other channels. Your professional interest in the piece they're covering, your insights, musical analysis, and note-for-note knowledge of it, enabling you to highlight the departures from the original, really adds an interesting element. And I'm impressed by the generous and respectful way you handled the slight disagreement on that one change. I've seen some reactors who seem to delight in pointing out things they don't agree with as if they're flaws in the performance, in which they're 'right' and the cover artists are 'wrong', which just comes across as arrogant and self-gratulatory. I usually don't finish watching those, and seldom come back to those channels, as it seems disrespectful to the cover artist I came to their channel to see reviewed -- I'm obviously a fan, so why go out of their way to antagonize me? But yours was handled, as I say, generously and respectfully, which allowed me to 'hear' your reasons, and once heard, I in fact agreed with you, and respected the analysis. Too long a comment, I know, but just to let you know I'm glad to be a new subscriber! Some quality reactions happening here, sir!
