Hey, so this is the lead dev of the game! I low key skipped to the feedback, since I just woke up and - yeah I agree with a lot of that. Watching other people play it told me a great deal about what I needed to work on in terms of legibility and making things...make sense? You are right in that the puzzles made a lot more sense to me while the team was developing them, and I was too focused on getting the game in a finished state. If I ever put out a post-Jam update (now that the games have been judged) I’ll probably rewrite a lot of the game’s text, to take it from old adventure game levels of difficulty to decent. This is one of the first puzzle-like games that I’ve made and I intend to make more so again, thankyou! I’ve been a fan of your content for a long time, and seeing one of my Jam games get highlighted was certainly a surprise.

Like how you need to take care of Zweilous double heads to keep them content, and how there's a whole biology document showing where pokemon have bones or nerves. It would be very cool to see this game but with more "identify a pokemon's issues" content. Like how the first 2 missions went.

I feel like this game was made with some medical/veterinary knowledge from the creators. Due to time constraints (and maybe their own perspectives) it feels like it isn’t as easy to grasp for general players how to follow the ODT procedure and how observations (like the blood count) link up with symptoms (repeated hypothermia; anemia) and treatments (maybe iron supplements; in humans you’d also test for a bunch of vitamin deficiencies etc.). Maybe it would help to put a simple guide to interpret results with the machines and to give the player a standard operating procedure to follow (like always do a general observation, then a physical, then the vitals etc.) as well as a clear diagnostic key (as in a book) to use where they can look up the symptoms they have observed and be led to a proper treatment. Maybe they can even involve the greenhouse and berries in the way of potions to be made for certain tests/treatments. By mixing everything up and keeping diagnostic info within additional lore, it’s much more confusing to the player.
@kirant3 жыл бұрын
I agree. I’ve got a bit of a background in healthcare and the approach looks relatively straightforward. While a fascinating game and one I really want to try (I’ve only watched to the Pikachu case at the moment), it seems like it expects that the player knows how to act in the situation, what to try first, and how to link information together to come to a basic conclusion based on the evidence. Maybe a simplified checklist on the wall or a more in-depth tutorial would help. For example, Pikasprey got quite confused by the fake diagnostic equipment when comparing them to the real ones. Having an idea what each does would have improved the learning curve immensely.
@waterunderthebridge79503 жыл бұрын
@@kirant Yeah, I feel like it expects too much prior knowledge from the player. It is also pretty hard to determine what diagnostic tests to even use when you’re faced with a bunch of symptoms the player cannot connect to a suspected diagnosis already. As I said, a standard operating procedure would be useful but probably rather hard to make (e.g. you do something entirely different for orthopaedic vs. infectious diseases). There’s a reason why medical school/nursing degrees take like forever. Maybe it’d be useful to use Chansey as an intermediate for this: Every treatment could start with Chansey doing some magic on the patient and then pointing the player towards a certain diagnosis. Still, it’d probably be hard nevertheless to simplify/gamify years of medical education (even in this fictional form)
@Yurikon33 жыл бұрын
Considering that it also uses fictional creatures as a staple, I would have expected it to have a bit more variety upon how different types act under different symptoms and how different nutritions affect them. Iron, calcium and alike do not necessarily have same effects on different mons. Still, some meta knowledge can be used as some sort of bonus.
@waterunderthebridge79503 жыл бұрын
@@Yurikon3 The problem with making up too much is that it’s easy to get lost in lore, making the game even harder for the player to grasp. Making a consistent disease model for pokemon not based on real life (veterinary) medicine probably isn’t a simple task either cuz you’d need to make up an entire set of internally valid and coherent diagnostics and theory with it. Extending the “tutorial” phase for too long might bore players easily. I think the middle road they went here (e.g. with the static fever) where the disease is based mostly on real life experience but presents with pokemon-specific symptoms alongside classical symptoms gives you a better intuitive sense of what is wrong, although it’s still very dependent on prior knowledge
@raystrife2343 жыл бұрын

I liked this a bunch! I definitely like to see more from the game developers or even a refined version of this game. I like the ending with chancy, and would have felt the game was very empty ended if it just ended with them building the machine. I could comprehend how that could be a bittersweet ending, but there wasn't enough build up for that to be a satisfying ending, as opposed to just the premise being set up in the beginning about anxiety over being replaced. I can definitely tell I liked and was interested in the game, because I was frustrated trying to follow along with the dialogue and decisions in the ditto imposter level! It shows to me that I'd definitely like to experience what the developers were going for. Other than that, the feedback I have I think has been already covered somewhat. An explanation of what items do before adding them to the treatment list would be great. Maybe there could be a book on them especially since many of the other books seem to just be background lore unrelated to the gameplay. I imagine it's a built-in feature of Pokemon essentials where you see the description of an item after picking it up, but I imagine there's some way they could handle that better. And then maybe some way of assisting a bit more in case people don't have medical knowledge. But that's more related to specific medical puzzles. Other than that, thanks to the developers for making this experience!

I must admit, I saw the title and expected a dumb horror game about cloning nurse joys or something morbid like that, but what it actually turned out to be was an incredibly flawed but promising game in the Pokemon world. The first three missions were great, even if the Zweilous one was incredibly incredibly buggy to to point of breaking the game, but then the last three completely threw away the game's premise in favor of its setting instead.. which, given the very little investment we have in these characters was an utterly poor mistake. The "Among Us" section was forced, confusing, pointless and seemed to have some hint at a possible deception and betrayal plot line with the torn note and Scarlett being knocked out in the locker room... but none of it ever went anywhere after that. But ultimately the answer on who it was ended being the most obvious answer because its the only one that would make any sense. The Gothitelle future preventing section had way too much confusing fluff that again, was pointless. Moving the red box and putting the fertilizer in the greenhouse achieved nothing at all, and again, we're just not invested enough in the characters to really care about this plot line, for a 3 hour indie jam game. The final section which obviously was leading up to a battle was the most cryptic bullshit, in fact, in my game the NPC bugged and kept their normal line of dialog until I tried to take the keystone from watching this video. There is 0 hints that's what you're suppose to do and even sitting in the chair does not tell you, it just gives you spoilers on how to treat Chansey after the battle. Plus the whole "it's mega now lol" doesn't even make sense. But ultimately... all three of them have literally nothing to do with being the last nurse joy, with the entire premise of the god damn game. Their inclusion is completely unnecessary and off brand. With the amount of tools never used and the amount of books never even relevant, there was so much room for operations and such that actually made sense instead of the random shit of the last half of the game. The 4th mission mentioned an Alpha Empoleon with a bent horn and you read the book on Alphas establishing dominance in the wild by doing such things and its like "yes okay, I'm already prepared for this one" but its just a bait and switch for a rousing game of fucking amogus. tl;dr This game has so so so much wasted potential and completely just became an entirely different game in the second half and that sucks.

(Spoilers ahead) 0/10 you didn’t put the Delcatty friend back in your party at the end after the Chansey fight. Okay, serious talk. I liked most of the ideas of this game, but like you said, some tutorial stuff would have been nice. If there was more focus on the Pokémon treatment and the Ditto stuff was sorted via treatment instead of a detective thing, it would have maybe worked better. I liked what it was going for but I feel like the Ditto thing came out of nowhere and kind of thematically felt off compared to the rest of the game. Yes, I feel even the thing with Chansey worked better than this, but I’ll explain my thoughts on it. The Chansey thing worked better because the treatment mechanic came into play. I like that it also came back around as a nice bookend, since you start the game by relaying to Chansey how you’ll treat your first patient and now you’re telling Chansey how you’ll treat _her_ during this wild occurrence. However, there were still flaws with it, as well as the game in general. I think that if there was more of a focus on Chansey so that the game was just as much about her as about Aida, instead of Chansey just being there and occasionally giving an opinion, then the thing about her jumping into the machine wouldn’t have been as out of left field and maybe would have made more sense. Perhaps having her finally evolve into Blissey would make the ending that much better and feel more rewarding, possibly off the back of one final hug or other affectionate action given to her by Aida before she evolves. A larger Chansey focus would also do a good job with fleshing the game out, since I feel like Chansey's character is untapped potential. We’re shown Chansey feeling that Aida didn’t quite spend the quality time with her that she would have liked, and that’s a very interesting starting point for a story! A Pokémon that doesn’t feel loved or appreciated enough can open many branching paths for the progression of a story. However, the execution of the idea raises a lot of questions. Why did she suddenly jump into the machine after running off and then appearing out of nowhere, instead of either staying missing or running into the operating room and requesting that Aida treat her injury there? Did she know what was inside the machine or that it had yet to be finished being built? What caused her injury, if not the machine, and was it deliberate or an accident? Does Aida telling Chansey "You have your arms back" mean that she lost them from the injury, or that they were either covered up by the shell or absent during the mutation? What did the mutation exactly do to Chansey beyond what we’re shown? Did it make her the ultimate Pokémon healer while somehow ignoring her injury, or did it just result in stat changes (and type changes, apparently - I *think* it became Ice/Steel but I could be wrong) and the weird appearance?

For a recommendation, if you are looking for a longer play through, pokemon unbound is a great game.
@dragonbrohter3 жыл бұрын
that would not be bad game for pokemon a little more for adults but having a different story and sinario you could combine even the detective element into it. only yeah they should have made it at least better half of those cases where just, healing pokemon the rest of the game was a detective series.

If it didn't have the "i" in it then Ada would sound like how it's pronounced in FO4 mechanist dlc where there is a voiced robot companion named Ada. So the i could be silent and could be how he pronounced it as Ada.

I don't think that's how English orthography works though xd

@@didack1419 Isn't there names in Spanish that can be said two different ways though?
@didack14193 жыл бұрын
@@valor1omega Ehhh... Can you give an example? Well, it's also Spanish not English, but my point was that i-s are never silent.

@@didack1419 I mean Spanish names said different in English, examples Jose' Juan Jesu's The ' is a stand in for the Accent mark over the respective letters. There are also words with silent 'i' in them. Business Parliament

@@valor1omega I'm still not sure what you mean with the Spanish names, do you mean that they can be pronounced two different ways in Spanish? Because, surely, Jesús is never pronounced Jesus. And Juan is always Juan, not Júan. It's true that some people are called José and others Jose though (although Jose is really only used in compound names because the stress is lost in a longer name). About the silent i, you're right, I couldn't simply think on any. I was specifically thinking on i-s that were consistently silenced like e-s are. Still, the only pronunciation that I've found is A-ee-da, not even I-da. And that's actually a name that I know in Spanish and it's basically pronounced the same, with an hiatus in A-i: Aída. It's not like anyone couldn't simply come up with their own pronunciation for a name to give to their daughter (specially with how inconsistent English orthography is many times) but when you find the name somewhere I think it's more logical to asume that its pronunciation is the common one.

My 3rd party DLC is as last time: Pokemon Blazed Glazed, my favourite of the kind. My other suggestion would be an Emerald 6-Smeargle run. That and Platinum are probably the most exciting left.
