And it's all about the flip real quick. they wanted to show the last bits of 'warm' humanity until all the sh*t hits the fan and it all gets super dark the rest of the way. between the part where Bill says ' I don't care if you're decent people' to Joel and to Tess saying to Ellie that she and Joel weren't good people, the build up has been great.

Thanks for the reaction! A thing a lot of folks might not realize (especially if they’re not from the US) is that the world in this show ended in 2003, and the first US State (which does happen to be Massachusetts) didn’t legalize gay marriage until 2004. So Bill and Frank, in-world, never knew the joy of the possibility of actually being married in their world until they decided, on their last day on earth, to just do it themselves. Truly heartbreaking, beautiful stuff, in my opinion. I thought this was one of the best episodes of TV I’ve ever seen.

Like Kat, I cried a lot in this episode because my mom has multiple demyelinating sclerosis and she tried to commit suicide twice, she is fine now and is contained but it was very hard for me but it must be more difficult for people who suffer from these disabling diseases which don't have cure and only they understand what it feels like to gradually lose their mobility and things that they could do before and no longer do, and in some cases gradually lose their cognitive functions when you have Alzheimer's or the beginning of it. Also understand that it is a personal decision, even though it hurts a lot, if the person decides to take their own life feeling that they lived a full life and the disease is taking away their identity. Something that happens in life and you don't hear much, I'm happy that they covered it on premium television.

This episode was a great example of how to give greater depth to a relatively minor character whilst still hitting all the important beats that progress the story and reflect back on the main characters in a meaningful way! So glad to see a happy glimpse of Tess, and that Bill and Frank did indeed share a love that lasted a long, long time! ❤

“There's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for.” ― J. R. R. Tolkien. This to me is the message of this episode, and the message Bill passed on to Joel in his letter. As bleak as the world in 'The last of us' is and with everything Joel went through, this message is incredibly important. Also, we as a viewer are given this message here as well. This world is dire. And the first two episodes were all about that.

This felt like a movie that I guarantee would be on every critic’s shortlist for best picture at the Oscars. I cried once every 15 minutes this entire episode. It’s honestly not just one of the most beautiful and emotionally powerful episodes of tv I’ve ever seen, it’s also one of the best live stories I’ve ever seen. Neil Druckman said in the BTS video after the episode that he and Craig Mazin had this philosophy on the show was “when should we deviate and when should we come back, if it’s kinda the same or worse then they stay (completely faithful to the game), if it’s better we deviate”. I’m SO DAMN HAPPY THEY DEVIATED! And I’m so happy that it ended with them dying together instead of Bill just forever bitter and living alone like in the game. Also I loved the Mortal Kombat 2 cameo. And of course Ellie’s favorite character would be Mileena. Tragically yesterday Annie Wershing who played Tess in the game passed away at 45 due to cancer. So when they showed the flashback with Tess and Joel I cried. Rest In Peace Annie Wershing.❤❤

Both stories were able to make me fall in love with a formerly total side character with little depth in the space of an hr, then rip my heart out. And rip to Annie. She deserved so much more recognition. She's stayed awesome in everything she's been in since 24. I hope she got to at least see her character come to life on TV before she passed

Not only the episode in itself was masterfully made, they still manage to move the story forward. You can see Joel’s walls cracking down when Ellie’s reading the letter (even before it mentions Tess) and the only way for us to feel as much as Joe did was to show the story of Bill and Frank. This was a defining moment for Joel for better and for worse

I mean in the game Joel goes to Bill to get a vehicle, same thing in the show. The main difference is that in the game Bill is bitter because Frank left him in addition to being paranoid. Plus of course Ellie met him. In the game he served as an example of what Joel never wants to become and in the show it seems to be a character that Joel aspires to become. Quite a nice change in my opinion because after the second episode I thought that it's a good show but aside from the background-story (TV-show and the mycologist) and some really small changes (like infected chasing after them instead of soldiers when Tess died), there wasn't much reason to watch the show from a story perspective. I thought this deviation was actually quite nice.
@ChibiHoshiDragon Жыл бұрын
EXACTLY! In the Game, Bill was a bitter old curmudgeon BECAUSE he served as a narrative WARNING of what Game Joel could become. Game Joel was NOT a closed off person. He wasn't the feared one. He cared for Tess (I AM the romantic type/There's enough here that you have to feel some sort of obligation to me). So a Narrative Warning IS appropriate in the Game. SHOW Joel IS Game Bill already. He IS bitter already. He hates the world already. Tess knew he didn't care for her (I never asked you for anything, not to feel the way I felt). There is no narrative purpose with rehashing a Game Bill. NONE. What Show Joel needs IS an aspirational character instead.

"Not today you new world order jackboot fucks" was one of the best lines! It was also a line that wasn't meant to be spoken in the script. It was put in to tell Nick what Bill was thinking but when it came to shoot the scene Nick said to Craig Mazin (showrunner) he was going to say that as a line and that's what you got.

Yeah, it's because of Bill being the survivalist/prepper that he is that he and Frank were able to survive everything that was going on outside their little town, and it was because of Frank being who HE is that they were able to live a relatively full life. I'd like to think that up until whatever caused the rift between them in the game that they had pretty much the same life as they do in the show. I love, too, that we got to see in their lunch date that Bill and Joel are very much the same in that, without someone to protect they're just surviving but when they each have someone to look after and protect then that gives their life meaning. Had Bill not died with Frank, he very much would have ended up the same as we saw him in the game, and that's exactly how Joel would have ended up without Tess, then Ellie, to protect.

I may be crossing the streams a bit here but for some reason the way Bill changed when he fell in love and how he said he wasn't scared till he met Frank reminded me of when Cassian said to Marva "I won't have peace. I'll be worried about you all the time" and Marva replied "That's just love. Nothing you can do about that" By the way I really LOVE the Danish word of the day segment you guys are doing now! I'd only recently realised just how many words in English actually derive from Danish... well, old Norse anyways. Turns out the British Isles were actually occupied and ruled by the Danish for centuries and they left *a lot* of their vocabulary behind. Trust the little one is doing well.

I love the hidden details i didn't realised on my first watch... It started in Jakarta, and found in a victim from a grain factory. So the grain/flour was infected and shipped worldwide! Now remember the scenes from the first episode: neighbour granny getting a biscuit put into her mouth... Joel forgot to buy the birthday cake... no pancake breakfast... Joel on Atkins diet.... Sarah rejecting the cookie from the neighbour... Eeek. Here all confirmed. That gives another question: early how many secured places gave flour/baked thing afterwards to the survivors, not realising how dangerous it is. Even months later if someone loots a store or a house for supplies, or QZ's giving out as food.... Of course if they got detectors and fast tests at least the QZ's probably found it soon and checked it afterwards all the time. By the way in episode 2 probably it wasn't a kiss from alien point of view, it was an easy entry point to enter, to infect. To join? Since she was infected already... TBH it was the most disgusting thing i have ever seen... yuck. Oh and I'm sure Tess wasn't bit by the clickers where Ellie was wounded. They stated how different the wounds of their victim is when they found their fresh victim. She was bitten when she climbed ahead alone to clear the way and Joel had a discussion with "circus" Ellie. My reasoning: You can see Tess's face and expression as she rejoins, and her behaviour changed. She knew she will turn in a few hours. So she was in a hurry, melee attacked one of the clickers, and the infection already spreaded when she showed it. If so it changes why and what she said from that point on.... Shoulder wounds is 2-8 hours to make you turn, see episode 1 medical poster in hospital when they check the kid, on the wall. They slept before it, at least Ellie and they watched her if she turns. After she rejoins they only saw the swarm below them and went into the museum with the clickers. Not big time difference, roughly 15-20 minutes. (Also if she would have fought a 3rd clicker there would have been noise attracting the two we seen looking for them, mainly for Joel). The truck was near to the museum, clickers, that was the short way and if the wound would reach her neck vein she would have turned in 15 minutes, before reaching the truck, if the wound was body/shoulder and 2-8 hours then again it doesn't matter which location she was bit, either it wasn't face/neck she had time (see show) or it was a little further away, then she got time what i'm trying to say. Also when the clickers were hunting and Joel was silently reloading, evading if there were a fight between Tessa and a clicker this one would have heard it and ran that way. So my dear Watson, the only logical conclusion is she was bit earlier. And that's why that experssion was on her face as she rejoined. This episode was very emotional again, i loved it. All the acting, story telling, everything is spot on. Joel and Ellie superb, and the two guys Frank and Bill.. i was speechless. I was excited with them for the food, cried with them, laughed with them, etc. These are actors. Confirmed many things, and showed what was the music code for. Don't forget to like our wonderful smart reactor's video, we all elsker them. and give your score for the episode at imdb and rotten tomatoes to show you appritiation. Cheers! P.S. Game Spoiler: It feels like an alternate reality instead of Bill letting Frank do up the town and make it his, in the game he refused that so Frank ended up hating him and tried to leave him and got bitten and killed and left the letter and killed himself. In the letter from Frank in the game he says that Bill would never change his ways and that is why he ended up resenting him... I really think that moment where Frank wants to maintain and upkeep the town to show love was the turning point of where we could have got the game ending or the show ending depending on the choice Bill makes.

Bitter miserable lonely men that pushes everyone away. Hank does die by suicide because he got infected. Bill in the show is someone Joel could aspire to be like. To open up to love and to care. Protect those you love no matter what. Move heaven and hell protect them. The one thing ill miss from the games that we didnt get to see in the show is Bill and Elli bickering at each other. Other then that i loved the love story i cried like a baby watching it.

This guy fell apart at the Luke Skywalker thing (and she was SO supportive to him during that / super cute). I can't wait to see how you all handle this. (grabs popcorn...)

All we need now in the episode starters is how Joel and Tess got together, how Ellie got bitten, and how the apocalypse started for Tess. I heard her story is about as terrible as Joels. Oh and how Tommy and Joel got seperated.

The writers were capable of making the viewers fall in love with Bill and Frank in a single episode. I wish they have given Tess the same treatment before they killed her off.

There's still the chance of flashbacks.

May I ask…what film does the color spectrum poster in the background represent?
@KatSonny Жыл бұрын
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse! It's beautiful, right?

It’s gorgeous! The movie and the print.

what’s the movie in the back? isn’t it one of those things where each line is the colour of a frame of the movie?
@KatSonny Жыл бұрын
It sure is! And the movie is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 😁

hi kat, i totally don't want to overstep but i've noticed that in recent videos that your thyroid, at the base of your throat, is very swollen. i have thyroid problems, and i know they can be brought on by pregnancy. i wanted to make you aware because a lot of people don't even know what their thyroid is, and its responsible for a lot of your body's functions. i apologize if i'm overstepping but i wanted to tell you just in case!

You’re not the first to suggest that, but it’s nothing. So no worries there 👍 Thanks though!
