The Last of Us | 1x7 Left Behind - REACTION!

We of course knew what was coming in this episode, especially because of the title. But just like the rest of the series, even though we were in the know, it still hurt. They really know what they are doing with this adaptation, that's for sure!

The suspense in this episode was masterful to the point of almost being unbearable. I didn’t play the game, but there is enough information in the show to know that this is where Ellie gets bitten. And enough to know that he friend / love interest is not getting out of there. And they are in an abandoned mall. There are corners, entryways, dark corners, and doors everywhere. They are making so much noise. They are distracted by things like video games, masks, and music. They are a little intoxicated. I was on. The edge of my seat waiting for the inevitable disaster. It was brilliant.

Terry Chen is the one who portrayed Kwong. He was also the same actor who portrayed Prax in the series "The Expanse".

The lullaby version of "Just like Heaven" at the carousel had me welling up, because those lyrics are so fitting. A love story with a tragic end just like the episode.

Symbolism: While playing Mortal Kombat 2, Riley plays as Mileena. That character is a woman who becomes a zombie like monster when the fatality is triggered. She destroys her opponent via bite / ingestion. Ellie plays as Raiden, who appears to be a human but actually has god-like powers.

This episode, just like the Left Behind DLC, is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. When Ellie and Riley are having the time of their lives playing around the mall and especially the arcade I felt absolutely elated. I especially loved how this was also a first date between them, even though they didn’t really know it was a date. And then when they finally kissed I couldn’t help but hold my heart because I thought it would burst from pure joy. And after they both get bit I felt my heart break even harder than in the game. On the “Inside The Episode” after the show they talked about how even though Ellie felt absolutely defeated she still wants to savor every second of time that she has with the ones she loves. And it shows when she is stitching Joel up and the Left Behind theme is playing. For God’s sake just give Bella Ramsey the Emmy!

My Uni professor today proclaimed this show to be a masterpiece in character writing and recommended the class watch it. The consensus best segment of LOU2 was the museum chapter which was basically an hour long bottle episode with no action. You could rip that straight from the game, make it an episode and I think people would still have issue with it being too slow or devoid of having enough action. Action gets dull on television the more you see it over and over again. To keep it fresh, you have to increasingly "up the stakes" which introduces the problem of plot armor as our heroes have to survive every encounter unscathed enough to move the story forward. I'm glad the showrunners didn't go that route.

Any discussion on the difference/inconsistency in Ellies story between episode 6 and 7. In episode 6 Ellie states everyone left her or died. But in episode 7, it seem clear FEDRA wanted her and felt she was officer material.

4:44. Ellie does have a point: The FEDRA in Kansas City got wiped out by Kathleen's militia, but 2 weeks later a horde takes out most of the militia then makes its way to the city with almost nobody left to defend it.

Maybe unintentional but I think it's kinda poetic that the show has a song from The Cure considering Ellie is possibly "The Cure" especially in such a magical moment for her where it must've felt just like heaven to her.

This episode was beautifully bookended with Ellie and Joel. Bella is amazing for an actor her age. Storm was believable in the role as her friend/ love interest. That being said, I found the pacing a bit slow and would say it’s one of my least favorite episodes, which surprises even me. Nice to see Kat looking perkier. Always enjoy your perspectives!

Carousel. Multiple rows of animals and spin counter clockwise. Marry-go-rounds are more common in Europe, typically only have one row, but spin clockwise.

My coworker accidentally cut his own hand with an angle grinder. I drove him to the nearest hospital, and sit beside him during the stitching procedure. Well ... Not just sit and watch. I had to strangle him tight and keep his mouth shut. Because he wont stop crying out loud, struggling, and saying lovely words to the medics who treat him. So thats why i was laughing hard during that stitching scene.

I have never played the game, so I guess don't understand why Ellie & Riley would make so much noise at that mall, if the Infected are attracted to noise? A place that large would be impossible to make secure, so there was bound to be some Infected there somewhere. Maybe it was because they are young and foolish. It was still sad to see the girls get bitten. I'm crying again. 😢 Lovely makeup & hair Kat! 💄👄

Mortal Kombat was supposed to be the game in the game, but Naughty Dog didn't get permission. So they invented a game. Now HBO has rights to both games and that's how it became possible. Riley chose Mileena in Mortal Kombat II and Ellie played Baraka. Both were Lovers in the game. Baraka skewered Mileena as finisher. That was the metaphorical endgame. That's how Ellie killed Runner-Riley. I think it's clear she stabbed her. That's why Ellie asked Joel in episode 2 what it was like for him to kill an infected, knowing that they once were human. I think she needed a comparison to her own feelings because she couldn't classify them. That's why she tortured and stabbed the stalker in episode 3. She first wanted to see if he felt something and then the anger broke through in her because an infected bit her friend and killed him. Previous episode, Ellie wanted a sip of liquor from Joel and said "still gross". This was her first time. The escalator can also be seen metaphorically. No matter how much Ellie runs against it (sometimes everything stays the same, sometimes there are highs), it still goes further and further downhill for her. Here it is shown no matter Fedra or Fireflys, for both you are just a number. They tell you what you want to hear and what benefits them, to achieve the respective goals. And that the Fireflys accept civilian casualties they showed in episode 1, when the car bomb exploded next to Tess. I actually thought Ashley Johnson (game Ellie) would have her cameo here. Obviously, this was not the case, but it comes later in another memory.

@@KatSonny it kind of makes sense. Instead of having Bella in makeup for hours. You just put a green patch on her arm and CGI the bite makeup from another actor. Allowed for her act of despiration to try and wipe off the bite, without running the risk of messing up the makeup. Bella acting is so good.
