The most intense part of the game was perfectly adapted into the most intense episode of the show so far. This was so freaking stressful all the way through, even though we knew what was coming. And the acting... seriously, bravo!
Remember this is not a substitute for watching the actual show. If you haven't seen it, please do so (available on HBO Max) and then come back to the video afterwards.

Best added aspect to David was him being a teacher before the apocalypse. That opens up all sorts of horrible possibilities as to what he did in that role. His line to Ellie about how the best part is when they fight back makes it all too clear that he's done this numerous times before and probably even before everything went to hell.

As disturbing as this was, there's a lot I love about this episode. David becomes infinitely creepier in retrospect, when we remember he was a teacher who "always had a violent heart". The horrors he's unleashed in his life. Plus there was only one guy Joel killed, but 3 bodies hanging in the meathouse. And we've all loved Bella's acting since Game of Thrones, but wow she was great this episode.

Obviously Bella is the star of this episode, she’s amazing and deserves all the awards and to have new awards created just to give them to her as well. Pedro was perfect, too. But I just want to throw a little shine to Troy Baker, too. Every little choice he made was so nuanced and subtle, very understated and patient. Really stellar work from him here, I hope we get to see him do more live action stuff in the future. But yeah, man, Bella. My god. What a star.

Great reaction Kat and Sonny. And the last thing poor Kat needed was to be emotionally hit with that "baby girl" comment. I lost it with that look Pedro gave Bella. Sending love and hugs to all and please Kat, take care of yourself. Special hugs to you. Love your discussions afterward and intelligent comments during. 💝💖💝 And a comment on wolves, they are not as predatory as people thing. That illusion they are somehow evil is too much attached to the fairy tales of old painting them as such. If truth be told they live largely on their own and don't hurt anyone as the only thing that matters is the survival of the pack. Yes they hut for survival, but they are not evil. There are rogue wolves, but those are relatively few and far between.

As someone who hasn't played the game, as relieved as I was that Ellie had gained the upper hand and killed David, I was also absolutely devastated for her in that moment. Any innocence she still had was destroyed by what David did and attempted to do to her and by the fact that he forced her to hack him to death to avoid it. Ellie just lost a part of herself and will be forever traumatised by these events. That guy was a monster. Joel, on the other hand, is an absolute weapon. The way he took out the men left behind to search for him, despite being wounded and nowhere near fully fit, was epic and that interrogation scene.... well, let's just say he wasn't messing around. I totally expected that Joel would burst in at the last minute to save Ellie, but I'm so glad they actually had Ellie save herself. She went beast mode. She's a true survivor. She is Joel's daughter. Can't fault this episode. Can't wait for the finale. P.S. If someone feels the need to tell you how good they are, chances are they haven't shown you how good they are and as such, probably aren't good at all.

I don't think I've ever watched a show in which I cried in pretty much every episode. This show is a masterpiece. I haven't had the pleasure of playing the game but I did watch several playthroughs when it came out and so far they have done a phenomenal job adapting to a tv show. So many people out hating on the show for very specific reasons but those people are just hateful and there's no way to help them but I feel bad for them because they are in their own of enjoying something truly amazing. Great reaction!

"When you are lost in the darkness, look for the light" Joel who lives in the (his) darkness has found the light in Ellie. At the same time, she loses hers through him and the world he shows her. Another low point for Ellie and a turning point for her. Here the animal in Ellie came out with her overkill and the experience she had to make. Almost r*p*d and eaten. Here she experiences for the first time the worst abysses in man. I think if you've seen Ellie's past reactions to losses, there wasn't much anger involved. She swallowed Sam's death completely. Here in her outburst really everything came out, which was not seen before. There is no way back for her. She will not be the same anymore. The episode is also important for the future. It shows what Ellie is capable of. A dark side in her that people like David recognize. I also think it's cool that the torture scene actually showed us explicitly how Joel has proceeded over the last 20 years. This was the first time it was really shown why everyone was afraid of Joel in episode 1. Another very good change to the original was to show that Joel didn't manage to interrupt Ellie's Overkill. So this scene ran much longer than in the game. Which, in wise anticipation of Part 2, shows that Ellie does not come to an end so easily when she has started something based on her emotions. Her emotions/charakter don't allow that. This wasn't just an overkill, this was an over-overkill. A nice Tess callback from Ellie in the conversation with David. "Your (our) luck had to run out sooner or later." were Tess's words shortly before she had shown him her bite. The father of the girl Joel killed will always be with her. I'm sure she enjoyed the meal. That's macabre. 😁 And here is Troy Baker (Game Joel) James. I didn't think that one day I would have to see Ellie kill Joel. There will be another big timejump. At the beginning of the next episode they will already be in Salt Lake City. Also, we'll see Ashley Johnson, who was Ellie in the game.

It's been interesting to see people who haven't played the game react to this episode. I've seen people cheer Joel torturing those guys. I've seen people cheer Ellie losing her mind & her humanity. It's super interesting to me b/c Neil specifically created this moment to make us understand how ruthless & cruel Joel is & how the worst aspects of him have rubbed off on Ellie. It's a treatise on violence & how it turns us into the things we're committing it against. So often, the violence committed by "heroes" is excused or even celebrated. Not here. It's brutal & gross & traumatic. It's Neil's thesis & it was done so brilliantly here. I hope those who are misunderstanding it dig a little deeper.

@Coco Carolina I guess that's you're reaction. Very different from mine. The text is that these are self-destuctive things. That's the point of the project. That you reacted to brutality with joy, I suppose b/c of the people committing it, says something really deep about you. It's kinda the most important thing about this piece of art: how we react the the facts. The facts here are not great for our main characters. The trauma is real, & they simply compound it. That's the brilliance. It's complex enough to make it indecipherable. It's just whatever you bring to it.

I appreciate the time they took to cement their relationship. Last episode was all about Ellie being attachd to Joel, and this one is the opposite, despite mostly showing Ellie. He went out to find her out of attachment rather than her being 'cargo', and that's why he was so brutal with those dudes despite not enjoying killing.

Without question this is the *DARKEST* part of the game. And yeah, they show did not hold back. They made David in his last minutes even more disturbing than the game made him. And when David tells Ellie that she has a violent heart he had NOOOO idea. I would honestly put her near the top of the list of the deadliest people in tv or video games. When she is chopping the hell out of David it is cathartic at first but then you see the tragedy because Ellie needed to tap into all of the darkness and violence in her heart to survive. And then we get the scene of Joel hugging Ellie and calling her baby girl😭😭😭. Bella Ramsey is getting an Emmy or this show🤞🤞! I kinda wished that Troy Baker (the original actor who played Joel in the game) was cast as someone far more important than James. Still he was amazing and he had an awesome death scene, and it was darkly funny that video game Joel was killed by tv Ellie. I actually screamed out “NO JOEL” when that happened 😂. Also wish that they gave Ellie her trademark bow and arrow, but hopefully we get that in Part 2.

The little girl was probably eating her own father and she didn’t even know…unless the meat is from one of the other two bodies but it could be his father…🥶 And David was speaking to James in codes when he asked if they had more meat, a lot of people miss it, venison is a code for human meat, there’s multiple scenes before the twist that they hinted at but people miss. This episode was amazing, Bella keeps proving haters wrong and the acting from everyone else was good too. I can’t believe there’s one episode more but I can’t wait for TLOU2 adaptation, I love Abby so much. Spoilers for those that haven't play the game and for those that didn't read Anna's letter so spoilers for the final episode! Stop reading... I knew it! It's been years since a few people noticed the letter that Anna leave to Ellie and hints at her being infected while she was pregnant with Ellie, by the trailer next episode will show it and will confirm our theory that a few of us had, that's why Ellie is immune. The Stalker bite Anna and that makes Ellie develop her immunity. I've had this theory for years and some people say that it was a good theory and others that it was stupid so I am glad that Neil didn't forgot about the letter, are expanding it by showing how she gets infected.
