the worst part is realizing in the before times, he was a teacher for students Ellie's age. How much you want to bet he also molested kids at the school... or wanted to. Disgusting monster
@coladictАй бұрын
Yeah, he became a teacher because it put him in a position of power over children, and then when the world ended the next such position he could take was as a pastor.

The gibberish she mutters as she collapses into Joel's arms might be some of the best acting I've seen. It feels so authentic.

imagine that they shot all that before david's scenes
@zolahVRАй бұрын
The dinner scene is so well done, it tells so much in that short scene. We can see how David gets much more food than anybody else, how they don't start eating until he gives permission, we see that most people eat the food fast, because they are hungry, while the people who know where the meat is from are eating slowly, and with not much appetite. We basically learn everything about the group's inner dynamic.
@AmarthwenNarmacilАй бұрын
Except David, who knows what he eats and seems to really enjoy it.
@zolahVRАй бұрын
@@AmarthwenNarmacil And he also acts like a victim and claims it shames him, but we see him how he eats all that human flesh with a big appetite. He's a fluent, serial, and pathological liar and manipulator, possibly one of the most evil fictional characters both in video games and in live action.

Joel’s love language is protection-protecting the ones he loves-even if that means committing great violence. We see it similarly to how he killed the infected neighbor for Sarah in episode 1 on outbreak day. The saddest part to me is the moment that after Ellie finishes killing David, she looks down to see what she’s done and she’s not only traumatized by what David attempted to do to her, but she’s traumatized of herself because she realizes she’s capable of that level of violence. Bella portrayed that trauma so powerfully. And Joel was so gentle with her when he found her…he rocked her like you would a scared little kid after a nightmare, and you can just hear Ellie crying and whimpering into his shoulder…my heart! 😢
@boywonder3056Ай бұрын
The feats that you saw Joel do in this episode is what Tommy was talking about “we did a lot of bad things”, that torture tactic isnt something you pick up, it’s something you learned and PRACTICED with multiple ppl, that’s why him and Tess were “very capable” to do this journey like Marlene stated

The actor who play Jim (The second of David)... Is the actor who play JOEL in the game !
@YukonBloamieАй бұрын
As a game player it was quite interesting wondering how the TV show would adapt the Sam and Henry, and David storylines. They nailed both. You spend a lot of time with Sam and Henry in the game. Henry even betrays you, then you meet up again and there is a point when they get separated and Joel has to protect Sam and Henry protects Ellie and it's something you can't really tell in a storyline how you feel about that. David was more straight forward but in the game you actually trust him more than the character Ellie does because you fight infected with him. When he drops the line about a crazy man travelling with a little girl, it literally shoots chills up your spine after what you'd been through with him.
@ethanvilla4418Ай бұрын
It's not just that Joel is "vicious" it's that now he's REALLY starting to care about Ellie, to the point he almost sees her as a daughter. THAT makes him even more deadly to anyone who causes her any harm.
@cmcgccjsl27 күн бұрын
Joel didn't rescue Ellie, as she saves herself. But he saved her all the same by being there. Like you said if he's not there for her after that moment she likely does not have survived. She was in shock and unable to think of any but getting away. Joel saved her emotionally at the very least, and probably saved her from the elements she was wandering off into after the horrors she went through.

Preacher, con-man, murderer, abuser, pedo and cannibal. I don't think you can get any worse than that. Also prop to the actor who did a great job in making us hate that guy to the bone.
@johncarolina4950Ай бұрын
Joel is 100% Mr. Ain't Goin'. In our world that would be reprehensible, but in his world, I can't really argue against his choices that much. I'd like to think I'd have the strength to make some of those decisions but I likely wouldn't.

This is what i didnt want my daughter to see playing the game back them, she found it when i was away at a conference and was half way through it. It gets serious, too serious for a young kid... but thats a part of growing up now that were watching this series now. Us dads will hack anyone to pieces to protect you. Maybe you dont was to see us that way, but its a dad instinct.

The best parts of the last of us story is that everyone is just trying to survive
@cbradfordgorby3237Ай бұрын
It's always interesting to hear the takeaways from the "David" chapter - in both the game version and now the TV show. Most do tend to jump on the most obvious elements. I think some begin to understand why it's called "The Last of Us" - Joel, Tommy, Marlene all embody the values of civilization before the cordyceps pandemic while the antagonists embody the "new world order", where society regresses to more primitive ideals in order to survive. I have not encountered many who view Ellie as an adult, which she is at age 14 in this new world - just the same as young people were in the 18th century - this is over simplified, because laws varied between countries - the "age of consent" in England was lowered to 10 in the 1500s and then switched back to the 12th century's age of 12. In any case the teenagers in the world of TLoU are not even remotely similar to the teens we are used to, except those residing in communities that are stable enough to hold onto old world values. The narrator from George Miller's "The Road Warrior" made an astute observation about mankind after the fall of civilization "Only those mobile enough to scavenge and brutal enough to pillage would survive." We delude ourselves into thinking we are a polite and civilized society, but we aren't that far from the brink of devolving to "caveman status" if things go wrong.

My issue with this episode is it kind of breaks the theme the show set up of moral ambiguity & not having outright evil villains. It’s not a major issue considering it’s kind of the only time they do this but still.

I found this episode to be one of the worst translations from the game. They changed so much unnecessarily, a lot that takes the wind out of most moments.
@zissoulanderАй бұрын
It's much stronger with the religious cult aspect and more overt pedo vibes from David. The Ellie hacking is way more impactful than the game.
@ray24051Ай бұрын
The video game is just that a video game and most of it is gameplay. Everything in the game cannot be put into the show it has to be condensed and the most important aspects of the story are used.

I would have liked them to keep the little skirmish where david and ellie have to work together but other than that I thought it was done plenty fine.
